Competition
To all who celebrate, Merry Christmas! To those who don't, have fun anyways :]
As Mitch put a foot in school on December 1st, he wasn't ready for the sight of what Scott's classroom would look like.
The door frame, first of all, is full of blinking Christmas lights and when he looks into the room, he sees that Scott's whiteboard, desk, and basically every other inch of his music room is covered in Christmas decorations. He's kind of impressed by all the effort Scott went through... he must've stayed at school pretty late last night.
It's Mitch's first year teaching drama at this school and he is more than happy with how everything turned out so far. He's made great friends in the past few months among the teachers and the students are wonderful.
The first person he met was Connor, the photography teacher. He waltzed into the teacher's lounge on Mitch's first day with a big smile on his face and a warm handshake greeting.
Shortly after that he met Troye who teaches english, and Kirstie who teaches science. Connor was in the middle of introducing them all when a loud groan caught their attention.
"That, is Scott, the music teacher. He's a bit grumpy in the morning, but besides that he's pretty great."
Great. He is kind of great, yeah, but mostly great looking. Mitch was already quite mesmerized when he first laid eyes on Scott. He was wearing a white button up with the sleeves rolled up to his elbows and a few buttons undone, black skinny jeans and silver shoes. He had bright blonde hair styled up and a bit wavy, but looked soft like a cloud.
The greatest thing about Scott though, was his eyes. They were such a bright shade of blue, a shade Mitch doesn't think even has a name. It's the perfect mixture between the translucent sea under the bright warm sun and the sky on a cloudless summer day. He couldn't put a finger on what exactly his eyes looked like, but in the end he decided that they're just Scott's eyes and that they're quite perfect. Even better? That his eyes were behind black framed glasses.
As Mitch is thinking back on his first day while peeking into Scott's room, he's reminded of how quickly they became friends.
It was funny really, how easily it was to talk to Scott and make him laugh with his stupid jokes. It was mostly because Mitch was nervous to be around him at first, but then he made them just to hear Scott's laugh.
At this point, saying Mitch has developed a crush on Scott would be the understatement of the year because he's fairly certain he's half in love with the blonde man already.
"Jealous, aren't ya?"
Mitch quickly turns around to see Scott walking down the hallway and towards him. He's in a comfy looking coat with a blue scarf wrapped around his neck. His glasses...Mitch's doom since day 1...are on his nose and a bit foggy with the change of temperature from the cold outside and the comfortable warm inside.
"Of what?"
Scott looks him in the eye then, turning the key into the door of his classroom, "Of my wonderful talent for Christmas decorating, Mitchell."
"Come on, not you too. I told Kirstie that's not my name."
"You just look cute when you're annoyed."
After those words, Scott walks into his room, leaving a red faced Mitch behind him because what? Did Scott just call him cute? He's not supposed to be so flustered by a tiny little word, but he is.
He doesn't have much time to think about it because when Scott flips a switch, Mitch sees that now not only is the door frame full of lights but all the other lights in the room are on, covering any empty wall space.
Scott's gonna blow the school's electricity bill with that room only, Mitch is positive about that. There's even a Christmas tree in the corner of the room, next to the drum set, and he put some garland and tinsel on all of the students music stands.
Scott removes his scarf and coat while Mitch is taking in how pretty the room is because he's quite the fan of Christmas himself.
Knowing that Scott is too, just sends some kind of wave of warmth and happiness through his body. He's already flashing forward to next Christmas and picturing them decorating a Christmas tree together and buying presents.
"This is really nice Scott. You did well." Mitch says before turning around to face the blonde man again, only to see him wearing a green tie with glittery snowflakes on it. Normally he'd laugh at the ridiculousness of it, but he likes it on Scott, go figure.
He can't help but laugh just a little bit at Scott's proud look and blinding smile. Mitch goes back to his classroom, the words, "You're cute when you're annoyed" playing through his head.
-------
Mitch wakes up before the crack of dawn the next morning to fill his car with all of the Christmas decorations he owns...ignoring the fact that he'll have to buy more for his apartment... to show Scott that he isn't the only one with intense Christmas spirit in the school.
The sun still isn't up when he gets to his classroom and starts working on his decorations, and he is already dreaming of when he can go back to bed. By the time some teachers and students show up he's already getting a bit of a headache from the flashing lights.
He runs into Kirstie on his way to the teacher's lounge for a much needed cup of coffee. 'Wanna give Scott a bit of competition I see? Is that a way to get his attention?"
"I have no idea what you're talking about." Mitch says through a yawn that he doesn't even try to hide behind his hand. He knows today is going to be a long one. He gets the worst ideas when it's time to impress a person he likes...he's been told before anyways.
"Uh huh. I'm gonna let you in on a little secret, Mitchell. No need to get his attention. You already have all of it, trust me."
Kirstie gives Mitch a wink before walking away and leaving him to stare at the steam coming from his coffee cup. Kirstie's been teasing him about Scott since pretty much the first day and Mitch thinks that maybe she caught him looking at the music teacher a bit too long before actually shaking his hand. Or maybe it's the way Mitch can't help but smile when Scott's telling a story or just talking to him. Maybe his crush is the most obvious thing ever and even Scott's aware of it...
'Scott's gonna be mad." Troye says to him as he enters the lounge.
"Why is that?"
"Christmas. It's his thing ya know? Goes a bit crazy over it every year to be honest. I just saw your classroom and...he's gonna be mad at you. Or kiss you for actually being just as crazy as him. I can't say which one is most likely to happen."
"K-kiss me?"
"Come on Mitch, you can't be that oblivious."
Troye and Kirstie's words are the only thing he can think about as he's walking back to his classroom, holding on to his cup of coffee a bit too tight.
Okay. So apparently everyone is aware that Mitch has a thing for Scott. Why do they talk about it like it's mutual and Scott likes him back? Scott treats him just like he does anyone else. Mitch isn't special. Scott is just...so happy and loveable and outgoing. Mitch isn't getting special treatment from him at all. He would notice right?
"Mitch! You did some great decorating to impress Scott, I see." Connor tells him as he meets him in the hallway.
"Why would I want to impress him?"
"Oh Mitch," is all Connor says to him, squeezing his shoulder and his face pretty much tells Mitch everything....Oh Mitch we know you're in love with him, you think you're subtle? That's cute. He looks at Connor then, with a lost and confused look painting his face, as the other man jogs down the hallway to his classroom.
Mitch is so perplexed right now. He must have fallen asleep face first on his desk, surrounded by fairy lights and little penguins with Christmas hats because why today of all days does everyone seem to be aware of his crush on Scott? Why is everyone talking about it like its super cute and adorable and all they are waiting for is to watch them kiss under the mistletoe he hung on his door frame?
"Oh. I see," comes an amused voice from behind him and Mitch turns around to look at Scott. Always beautiful Scott with his smile and face and eyes and...wow Mitch is really tired.
"Hello Scott."
"So you want to play that game?" his tone sounds a bit threatening but his eyes are shining with a playful glimmer that Mitch is head over heels for.
"Game?"
"You want some sort of Christmas competition?" and Scott is walking closer to Mitch as he speaks. There's only a few students already in the hallway since it's still pretty early.
He's right in front of Mitch in a matter of seconds, a mischievous smile on his pretty pink lips. "It is so on Grassi."
Looking down at him, Scott pushes that one piece of hair out of Mitch's face. Mitch is still holding onto his cup of coffee, probably cold by now, and it sounds like his heart is singing that song that Scott loves to play with his students, the one with loads of percussion and even if Mitch's classroom door is closed, he always feels the vibrations of it.
He hopes Scott doesn't hear or feel any of his vibrations though, but, he's too busy freaking out about the fact that Scott looks like he is about to kiss him.
But in the end, he doesn't
Not really anyway. He does kiss Mitch, but he only gives him the softest peck on the cheek, murmuring "Mistletoe" right in his ear once he's done.
And that's all Mitch can think about throughout the day. It's the only thing, apart from coffee to keep him awake enough to actually teach his students. It almost seems like a routine now, Scott always doing something sweet in the mornings to keep Mitch's mind on him all day.
-------
Mitch must've slept 12 hours straight the night before since he went home, ate dinner, and then fell face first onto his bed and slept until his alarm went off in the morning. He took his shower and got dressed, picking out one of his Christmas bow ties. He usually saves them for family gatherings at the holidays, but this is a Christmas crisis.
He picks up a red one with reindeer on it because he is ridiculous like that and if Scott wants to play dirty, well he can play right back.
-------
The door of his classroom is completely wrapped in Christmas paper.
It even had a big golden bow on it.
It really was pretty, but the only problem is that Mitch can't get into his classroom without actually ripping the paper. It's like his door is an actual gift.
He can't even be mad at Scott because that is the most adorable prank anyone has ever played on him. It's not even a prank, it's a beautiful surprise. He's taking a few pictures on his phone, because that is some serious wrapping skills, when a few students start gathering around him with weird expressions on their faces.
"Can we actually go inside Mr. Grassi?" one of the girls asks.
"But I don't want to rip the paper. That is a great present."
A few of them laugh at him then, while others are encouraging him because the bell is about to ring and 'you can't really teach a class in the hallway.'
They're right, of course. He's the adult here and he's not supposed to be spending hours swooning over a door wrapped like a present just because Scott did it and because he thinks it's the cutest thing. No. He is a man. A grown man in the middle of a very serious competition and he won't let Scott win this just because he is maybe a little bit in love with him.
"Okay, who wants to rip it off?"
It ends with Mitch's students ripping the paper off and throwing it at each other while laughing, putting an even bigger smile on his face. This wasn't really a prank, it was more of a nice morning surprise.
When all the paper is on the floor and the classroom door is visible again, Mitch lets his students in and starts picking up the bright paper scattering the ground. He sees a pair of boots, black today, walking towards him, and when he looks up, he sees Scott.
Scott, with an equally big smile on his lovely face and his cheeks the prettiest shade of pink. He helps Mitch pick up the paper in silence and before entering his own classroom, looking back at him over his shoulder and giving him a wink before closing the door behind him.
Mitch then enters his own classroom to see that pretty much all of his students are looking at him with a knowing look on their faces and he does his best to try and ignore it and just start his class, but there is a hand raised in the back.
"Yes Tiffany."
"Are you and Mr. Hoying the new Tronnor?"
Jesus. He heard the rumor that Troye and Connor were called that but he wasn't sure. Oh my God. He needed to keep a straight face because I wish wasn't an answer.
"Excuse me?"
"You know. Are you two...together now?"
There's a couple voices whispering now and then another girls' voice chimes in that's dripping with excitement. "Omg we could call them Scomiche!"
"We could also start the class and that's what we're going to do. No more Tronnor or....Scomiche. Get into your groups from yesterday and practice your scenes."
There's a huge glass window on his door that gives him a good view of Scott's classroom. Just a quick look, he tells himself. Only two seconds and then get back to class and stop thinking about Scott.
The only problem is that when he looks over Scott is already staring at him, pointing to Mitch's bow tie and giving a thumbs up with that blinding smile. And that smile is enough to occupy Mitch's mind for the rest of the day, again.
-------
The next morning Mitch brings a can of fake snow with him and he sprays Scott's chair with it, sprays a big, messy, Merry Christmas on his whiteboard...that's kind of hard to see with white on white but you got the gist of it...Nobody said Mitch was good at pranking people.
As revenge, Scott ends up entering Mitch's last period, disturbing them by singing Christmas Carols, with instruments, for half the period. Scott dances through the desks, enticing the students to join him.
Mitch stays in the front of the class, humming the song softly under his breath and just watches Scott be.. well Scott. Being his own bubbly self, singing, laughing, and dancing.
He doesn't stay there too long though, no, Scott is quick to realize that Mitch isn't singing and dancing with all of them. He is quick to grab Mitch's hand to pull him closer and poke his sides as a silent way to ask him to sing with all of them. His touch is gentle but enough to set fire to his skin.
The look on Scott's face is precious and wonderful when Mitch finally starts to sing, when he clears his throat a few times before letting his voice join the students.
Scott looks impressed by Mitch's voice and he even stops singing himself to listen to it better. Then he laughs, one big burst of laughter, loud and genuine and there are stars in his eyes.
No...not stars. Snowflakes. You know when the sun shines on the snow and it looks like it's shimmering, like the snow is some kind of glittery blanket. Yeah, Scott's eyes are shining just like that.
The pranks continue all throughout the week. Scott replacing all the Mitch's white board markers with only red and green markers, Mitch waking Scott up by blaring Christmas music after he fell asleep in the teacher's lounge.
Scott then stole the Christmas cookies Mitch brought for his students, but only to leave a bigger box of sweets on his desk the next morning with a big bow on it. And maybe he decides to keep them all for himself and get something else for his students.
He gives Scott the ugliest Christmas tie he's ever laid eyes on and the next morning of course, Scott wears it proudly like it's the best gift ever. Has Mitch already said how much he adores Scott? Because it still smacks him right in the chest every time he's reminded about it.
-------
After the final bell rings that Friday afternoon, Mitch's students are quick to leave, but he takes his time, picking up his stuff and placing things back where they belong. He picks a few papers on his desk and stuffs them into his messenger bag. He's got a bit of grading to do so might as well bring it home this weekend.
He jumps a little when he hears someone knocking on the wooden frame of his door, but smiles instantly when he sees Scott.
He's leaning on his shoulder against the frame, and his arms are crossed over his chest. He's wearing a cute shirt today...but when is he not... with surprisingly nothing Christmassy on today.
"Hey," Scott says softly and he looks a bit shy, which surprises Mitch because Scott is always the confident one. It's Mitch who's blushing and stuttering every time he's in close proximity of the blonde man.
"Hi. You here to steal something of mine again?"
"No, no I'm not." he sounds a bit breathless as he speaks, a bit overwhelmed and Mitch is confused by it all. He turns to face Scott, frowning as he gets a better look at him. Scott looks nervous and he is still at the door. He looks at Mitch like he wants him to understand what's happening without having to actually say it out loud.
"...Are you okay?"
"Yeah, I'm fine. Can you...can you come here please?"
"Ooookay," and Mitch does so, dropping his bag on his chair before walking closer to Scott.
He doesn't understand why the other man doesn't want to just enter his room, but he doesn't ask any questions, just walks closer to Scott because he can't really deny him anything.
He stops a few steps from Scott, and the blonde whispers "closer" until their toes are touching and their chests are almost pressed together. Mitch sees the way Scott swallows, a bit roughly, his Adam's apple moving a bit shakily. He sees the heavy pink blush on Scott's pale skin and the little freckles placed strategically on his pretty face.
Mitch is slightly shorter than Scott and has to glance up at him just a bit. He loves the way Scott's eyes are suddenly a bit darker behind his glasses, how the usual bright blue looks like some sort of stormy sea right now.
Scott is the only thing he sees, the way he licks at his bottom lip quickly, like he's anticipating what is about to happen and Mitch is dizzy with Scott's cologne, how good he smells this close to him. Every little part of Scott is taking control of him, invading his senses and it feels intoxicating in the best way.
Then Mitch lifts one of his hands and pushes Scott's glasses up, up until they rest at the top of his head in the wavy blonde hair. He lets his hand trace down Scott's cheek and jawline, tilting his chin down until their eyes meet and when they finally do...when they do Mitch sees the way Scott gives his lips a quick glance and the wait is finally over. Scott is pressing his lips against Mitch's.
Mitch feels Scott clutching at his shirt where his hands rest on his waist and the way he sighs contentedly against his mouth. He feels it, with every touching point.
He wraps an arm around Scott's neck to pull him closer and his other hand is still on the man's cheek because he's a bit in love with how warm it feels under the palm of his hand.
Love is quick to turn into lust when Scott's fingers slip under his shirt to rest above the waistband of his pants and he's torn between pushing against those fingers and chasing the warmth or press closer against Scott's firm chest.
He ends up pulling Scott into his classroom, never breaking the kiss and he hears the door close behind them. Thank God.
He pushes the blonde back against the door then, feeling the moan leaving his mouth against his own lips. They part for air for a second, foreheads pressed together and they are both out of breath. Mitch can feel the way Scott's chest is heaving quickly as they are still pressed against each other.
"Please tell me you didn't just do that because of the mistletoe on my door frame." Mitch says then, his words a bit weak with how shy and lightheaded he feels. His eyes are on Scott's lips because he's not ready to face Scott's eyes and see proof of what he is so afraid to hear. That it was just for fun, just because of the mistletoe.
Scott firmly presses his own lips onto Mitch's and the kiss takes another turn. A very, very dirty turn as Scott is pushing his tongue into Mitch's mouth and doing all sorts of things with it.
When he pulls back, it's with one final bite at Mitch's bottom lip and the storm in his eyes looks like a really dangerous one as he looks down at Mitch with lips raw from kissing and cheeks even pinker than before.
"I've wanted to do that since the first day I saw you in the teacher's lounge."
There is this huge, almost painful smile on Mitch's face now and he can't help it. He's half hard in his pants and Scott is so beautiful like that, looking completely ruined under Mitch's hands and because of the way they kissed. He just feels so happy suddenly he could dance or maybe sing a few Christmas songs since that's their thing apparently.
"Good," He tells Scott, leaving a soft peck on his lips. "Me too."
Mitch kisses him properly again and he can feel how Scott's lips have curled into a smile and how he also tries to pull Mitch closer.
And they just kiss, for what feels like hours and it's enough. That's all they need right now, in this moment, just the two of them pressed together, sharing warmth, soft kisses and even softer looks. Sometimes is turns a bit heavy with tongues and teeth and hips grinding against each other before slowing down again and they have all the time in the world really. Nothing really matters anymore now that Mitch knows the taste and feel of Scott's lips.
They do part eventually because Mitch wants to kiss Scott on a better place than against his classroom door, so they finally make their way down the parking lot, the sky already dark because winter's nights start early.
He doesn't seem to notice the dark sky and clouds though, Scott is shining so brightly next to him, that's all he sees. They climb into Scott's car, leaving Mitch's behind. They have all weekend to drive back to school for Mitch to pick it up anyways.
But his car is the least of his concerns with a smiley, giggly, Scott sitting next to him. He has better ideas on how he's going to spend his weekend and it involves a bed and a very naked Scott.
