Chapter two, Alaska
Edward was already in the car when the rest of his siblings walked towards their cars. He looked vividly anxious and stressed. Persephone was confused by that and looked at Alice but was shocked to also see the confusion on her face.
Persephone, Alice, and Emmett got inside the car with Edward as Rosalie and Jasper got inside another. He started to drive looking very upset which worried Persephone.
"Edward?" Alice asked, alarm in her voice but Edward just shook my head at her.
"What the hell happened to you?" Emmett demanded, noticing Edward's behavior and taking his mind off the Monopoly game against Persephone and from the fact that Jasper was not in the mood for a Mario Kart rematch.
Instead of answering Edward started to drive faster just wanting to get as far away from Bella Swan as humanly possible.
"You're leaving?" Alice whispered making Persephone look at Edward with wide eyes.
"What?" Persephone whispered, "Edward you can't leave," please! She begged in her mind knowing Edward was listening.
I'll miss you," Alice mumbled. "No matter how short a time you're gone."
Emmett and Persephone exchanged a surprised glance, not understanding what was going on.
"Drop us here," Alice instructed. "You should tell Carlisle yourself."
Edward nods slowly and stops the car, Emmett and Alice get off but Persephone crosses her arm refusing to get out.
"I'm not getting out of this car until you tell me what's going on!" Persephone locks her side of the door making Emmett sigh knowing he has to carry her out but she'll throw a fit if needed.
"Go, I'll take her with me," Edward mumbles not taking his eyes off from in front of him.
"You will do the right thing," Alice says lightly. "She's Charlie Swan's only family. It would kill him, too."
Persephone then realized this had something to do with Bella Swan. She remembered Edward's early words, he couldn't read her mind.
The two cold ones arrive at the hospital walking straight to Carlisle's office where Persephone wraps her arms around his neck and begins to ask him questions.
Edward slowly wraps his arm around her waist and closes his eyes.
"Edward, what's going on?" She asks unsure and calmly, not understanding why her brother is acting strange.
"Bella, she's my blood-singer," Edward says disgust written across his face. He couldn't believe how close he was to exposing his family secret and getting them all killed by the Volturi. He was willing to kill everyone in that biology room just to end with Bella.
"Oh." Persephone says shock written across her face, "Well, I know how difficult that is. Remember when Emmett slipped up with his blood-singer? It happens and you didn't hurt her."
Persephone's words comfort him but the dark thoughts were still behind his head. "But Steph that's the problem. I really wanted to, I could have put everything Carlisle built for us at risk."
The blonde hugs her brother tight, "but you didn't."
They stayed in each other arms, not saying anything. Edward just focused and listened to Steph's comforting words flowing in her mind. Edward appreciated how Persephone didn't judge him as Rosalie would have or pressure him into talking about it as Alice would have.
The door opens and Carlisle becomes a bit worried seeing his first children hugging as if one was leaving.
"Edward, Persephone. What's going on?" Carlisle asks not sure what to expect. They pull away and Edward begins to pace around the room as Persephone sits on her father's desk.
Edward explained the situation and appreciated Carlisle's calm and supportive thoughts.
"Here, take my car. It has a tank full of gas." He hands his son the keys and looks at his first daughter.
"Steph, you have school." He softly teases making her groan in annoyance.
"Dad, come on. Edward needs me," She whines looking at her brother for support, "don't you?" She pouts making Edward chuckle for the first time since the incident.
"I do, Carlisle. She's my moral support." Edward continues but he knows the doctor was only teasing his oldest daughter.
Everyone in the family knew, that wherever Edward went Persephone followed. And wherever Persephone went, Edward followed. It's how it's always been.
Carlisle opens his arms and Steph smiles and runs to them. Pulling her father figure into a hug.
"Thank you, thank you! Tell Mom, I'll call her when we get to Alaska." Carlisle kisses her forehead and nods.
"Alright, get out of here and be careful." He tells his kids and watches as they walk out the door hand in hand.
Carlisle and Esme Cullen hoped for a very long time that Edward and Steph's relationship or blossom into something beautiful. But it never did. However, that didn't stop them from hoping they would find happiness with each other.
He let out a long sign already missing his two oldest kids, before he put on his doctor's coat and went back to work.
——
Persephone wasn't a huge fan of Tanya mainly because of her long-lasting crush on Edward Cullen. She always made Steph feel like the third wheel every time they stayed in Alaska. Even though Tanya was the one who randomly made herself included in their plans.
However, Tanya shared the same opinions about Persephone Cullen. In her mind, Steph wouldn't leave Edward alone and constantly had to be at his side. It annoyed her that she couldn't make a move with Steph constant glare.
Edward found it amusing since he could read both their lingering thoughts. Although, the girls weren't hateful to each other. Just secretly wished the other would disappear.
The older vampire believed that Steph was secretly in love with Edward. But that was far from the truth.
Tanya would flip if she found out the truth being that the reason Steph was constantly around, was because Edward didn't want to be alone with her and accidentally lent her on.
The Cullen siblings were currently lying on the cold snow, both deep in their thoughts. The cold air feels nice on their skin as they lay there and each other's presence
"Edward?" An annoying voice Steph despised came from behind them making her bit her tongue.
Of course, she ruins our peace and quiet, Steph thinks to herself making Edward look at her and smile.
Steph is here. Great, why is she always around? Tanya's thought made Edward want to laugh, the girls truly despise each other for different and dumb reasons.
"Irina and Kate said I should leave you alone. They think I'm annoying you." She sits down next to Edward still ignoring the blonde who also hasn't knowledged her.
"Not at all," Edward assured her. "On the contrary, I'm the one who's being rude. I'm very sorry."
Stop being nice to her. We don't like her. Persephone opens her eyes to see Edward giving her a look, oh shut it. If I don't like someone, you're not supposed to like them. It's how this relationship works.
Edward rolls his eyes at his sister turning his attention back on Tanya.
You're going home, aren't you? she thought wanting to annoy Persephone with keeping the conversation a bit private from her end.
"I haven't...entirely...decided that yet," Edward mumbles still not looking at her.
But you're not staying here. Her thought was sad now.
"No. It doesn't seem to be...helping."
"That's my fault, isn't it?" She pouts making Edward shake his head but looks at Steph, who elbowed him hard.
"Of course not." He denied making Persephone roll her eyes and lay back on the snow.
Don't be a gentleman. Tanya thought with a smile.
Dude seriously, don't be a gentleman. Persephone tells him still lying down.
Edward wanted to laugh and how similar they were.
I make you uncomfortable, Tanya stated hoping he'd deny it and mean it.
"No."
Yes! Get a hint! Persephone yelled but her face stayed neutral.
"All right," Edward admitted. "A little bit."
"You're a thousand times lovelier than the stars, Tanya. Of course, you're already well aware of that. Don't let my stubbornness undermine your confidence." Edward tells the older vampire but regrets it after hearing his sister's thoughts.
Gross. He should complement me instead, I am way prettier. I mean what other vampire has blue eyes? Edward rolled his eyes and made a mental note to compliment her later. Rosalie was rubbing off on her.
"I'm not used to rejection," She says shaking her head and looking at Persephone for the first time since she sat there.
Persephone is beautiful and lucky. I wish I still had my blue eyes. Tanya thought forgetting for a second that Edward was listening. Edward being the gentleman he is, ignored that obvious private thought.
"Certainly not," Edward agreed once again ignoring his sister's thoughts.
"When you showed up here," Tanya said slowly still ignoring the fact that Persephone was there, "I thought that..."
Edward knew exactly what she thought, she hoped he'd change his mind about them. Hoping he wanted more.
"You thought that I'd changed my mind," Edward said which made Persephone feel bad for the older girl, unrequited love must suck.
"Yes." She scowled at herself.
"I feel horrible for toying with your expectations, Tanya. I didn't mean to. I wasn't thinking. It's just that I left in...quite a hurry."
"I don't suppose you'd tell me why?" She asked making Edward sit up looking down at his sister.
"I'd prefer not to talk about it. Please forgive my reserve." He felt Persephone softly grab his hand in comfort.
Where will you go, Edward, if you leave? Back to Carlisle?
"I don't think so," He whispered looking down at his hand holdings Steph's. Edward hated that his choice would not only affect his life but also hers. Because as much as Edward can talk, he knows Persephone doesn't leave him.
Just like when he rebelled against Carlisle. Persephone stayed on his side. She stayed for over four years and watched as he fed from criminals. Never once judged him. Just encouraged him, and made sure he was safe. She even had to compel a couple of innocent humans who walked in at the wrong time.
"I think that you will go back," she said looking at Persephone with a small smile, "you both should. No matter what it is...or who it is... that haunts you. You'll face it head-on. You're the type."
Edward kissed her cheek, pulling back swiftly when she twisted her face toward his. She smiled at his quickness.
Gross. I can't believe you kissed her. Edward heard from the side and turned to see Steph still lying on the cold snow.
Despite being half a vampire, Persephone could get sick however it wasn't as simple as with humans. So Edward quickly stood up and pulled her up with him.
The youngest vampire then crosses her arms with a pout, that made Edward laugh.
"Thank you, Tanya. I needed to hear that."
"You're welcome, I guess. I wish you would be more reasonable about things, Edward."
"I'm sorry, Tanya. You know you're far too good for me. I just...haven't found what I'm looking for yet."
"Well, if you leave before I see you again...goodbye, Edward."
"Goodbye, Tanya," Edward mumbles with a small smile, wrapping his arms around Persephone. "Again, thank you."
Edward pinched her side and gave her a look. The type of look an older brother gives to his sister that says behave and be nice.
"Bye Tanya, it was nice seeing you." She hums out with a sigh.
"You too, Steph," Tanya answered with a real smile and wave as she walked away.
"See, it isn't too hard to be nice." Edward teased poking her side to annoy her.
"Stop poking me, and it was very hard for your information. Very tough." She whined as Edward pulled her into a hug.
"Persephone Cullen, you are the most beautiful stunning gorgeous woman I've ever seen. No one compares to your beauty not even Rosalie."
Steph bit her lip and smiled, "You caught that thought earlier."
"I did," he said as they started walking towards the car. "You know you're my number one girl."
"Ugh stop. What about when you find your mate? What then?"
"What about when you find your mate?" He used her own words against her.
"You're right, let's make a promise. No matter what, we'll always be there for each other and no one will ever get in the way of our relationship." Tears begin to form in her beautiful blue eyes making Edward melt.
"I promise, sunshine. I promise." Edward wiped the tear that fell. Persephone immediately wrapped her arms around his neck and they stood there for a couple of minutes just hugging each other.
Persephone Cullen was Edward Cullen's weakness and no matter what happened in Forks, he'll always make sure to protect and love her. Just like he did the night they met when she was human.
——
That night, Edward and Persephone came home back in Forks Washington, where they belong. After making a pitstop at In-N-Out, McDonald's, and there was a little fashion boutique Steph saw these beautiful winter boots. She absolutely couldn't go home without them, it would be a crime. Steph made Edward stop every time and he didn't complain once. Liking at his mind was occupied holding her shopping bags and ordering her food.
The family was already there when they pulled up in front of the house. Esme being the one in front, Persephone quickly opened the door and rushed into her arms.
"I'm sorry, I didn't say goodbye, Mom. I missed you." Esme quietly murmured no's. Esme would never admit it out loud but Edward and Steph held a special place in her heart, considering they'd been with her longer.
"Don't worry about it, honey. I missed you, I made you food the second Alice told me you were coming back. Are you hungry?"
Her first daughter nodded and touched her stomach, "Very, Edward didn't feed me."
"I'll take to put Edward on a time-out then," Carlisle says wrapping her into a cold hug. Persephone smile into the hug and pout. "I agree, Dad."
While Carlisle was hugging his daughter, Esme pulled Edward into a hug, also missing her son dearly.
Persephone rarely called them by their given names, she loved and appreciated them so they were mom and dad.
"Seriously, bro. You kidnap her and don't feed her? What's wrong with you?" Emmett shook his head, walking over to greet her.
"I'm sorry. We were too busy buying more clothes and shoes."
Emmett grabbed her face to check it making sure she was fine then hugged her. "Em! You're squeezing me!"
Alice, Rosalie, and Jasper all took turns hugging her, not wanting to admit it. They all missed her playing the guitar and her passing out on the couch after having a movie night. And Emmett would never admit it out loud, he missed her cheating at every board game they played. Sometimes he even let her cheat when it wasn't a serious game.
Edward and Persephone were back where they belonged but this was only just the beginning because things were about to change dramatically for both of them.

Author notes: I hope you all liked this chapter, it was inspired by the amazing Stephanie Meyer who wrote Midnight Sun. I pretty much just added Persephone into it. So all credit goes to her. I also wrote this within like two hours so ignore any mistakes.
I absolutely love hearing your thoughts on who Persephone should end up with. I think Sam, Embry, and Paul are in the lead. Keep commenting so I know who to pick!
