Chapter 1🌹
Nifemi's POV
Secondary school, to me has always been a pain in the ass. Most especially when a bad name got added to my list of names.
Added? Pfffft, I mean replaced by my original name.
I wonder if people at school even know my real name. But the name given to me by them was so famous, it was at the tip of every new comers tongue, and the story behind it gets passed from set to set like the school's freaking year book.
My name is Nifemi Adeniyi, and this is going to be another bad term for me. All thanks to.........
“Guyyyy” I heard a voice call out to me as I felt my body being shook back into reality.
I immediately snapped my head towards Dorcas as she stared at me in confusion.
“Let's go” She ordered as I scanned my environment before getting up and following her down the school's hallway.
I had finished with the test over 20 minutes ago, but I was waiting for Dorcas to finish up.
“What were you thinking about so deeply?!” She asked me as I shot her a questioning smile before shaking my head in denial.
I wasn't that deep in thoughts.
“Anywaysss, I'm glad we are finally done with that dumb welcome test. My brain needs to rest” She told me as I laughed at her words.
“We just resumed this week.” I reminded her as we found our way out of the hallway, into the lunch hall.
The smell of freshly made jollof rice hit my face as my mouth couldn't help but salivate.
“Ehn, but still...” She trailed off, probably not having anything to back herself up.
“Nife!!!” I heard a loud yell as my face lit up at the sound of that voice.
I looked behind me as I felt someone crash into me roughly.
“Owwww!” I yelped as I rubbed the spot that hurt on my forehead before adjusting my big rimmed glasses.
“Sorry, sorry” Simisola told me hurriedly as she also slightly massaged her forehead with excitement written all over her face.
I wonder what is making her all pumped up.
“Took you guys long enough!” She complained looking at both me and Dora.
“Anywaysss.....” She started as she waved her hands, dismissing her complain.
“There is news o” She continued as she pulled Dora and I closer and wrapped bother her arms around our neck, walking us towards where we would be served our food.
I think I knew what this big news was.
“What?! They accepted your idea of a welcome to school party?!” Dorcas asked with boredom laced in her voice.
Yikesss!
Way to spoil her announcement.
“How did you know?!” Simi asked her turning to face her suspiciously.
How wouldn't she know?!
Simi had been going on about her idea of a welcome to school party since we vacated, last term.
But it was still a bit unbelievable, though.
Why would they accept such a crazy idea?!
“Because you have been rambling about, how much you wanted them to accept it since last year” Dorcas replied as I widened my eyes.
Ahn ahn!!
Alaseju!
She just thought of the idea when we started the third term exam, in SS1, that is late last term.
Which was this August.
“Last year kor” I commented as she rolled her eyes at me before grabbing a plate.
“Don't you want to know how I got them to accept?!” Simisola asked as she wriggled her eyebrows with a mischievous smile.
Uhrmmmm...
“You got your dad to convince a bunch of parent on the PTC(Parent Teacher Committee) to agree to it and sponsor it?!” Dorcas blurted out again in a 'duhhhʼ tone.
Simisola stood there, looking at her for a minute as her face morphed into a frown.
“I hate you” She told her before grabbing the plate of food the lunch woman stretched forth to Dorcas, before stomping away.
I let out laughter as I shook my head before looking at Dorcas who held back her laughter.
I suddenly took notice of the noisy hall as I suddenly started to notice the absence of most of the seniors.
“That's true, where are the seniors sef?!” I asked Dorcas curiously as I collected my food and we both headed towards Simi who was stuffing her face with food.
“Ohhh, prefectship meeting.”She replied me immediately as we both sat down placing our food on the table.
“And they didn't call us?! Thank God o!” I said in relief as I knew I didn't want to attend one of those.
The meetings were always so long and uninteresting.
And since I was just the library prefect, I spent most of my time rating the looks of the prefects.
In my head, of course.
“Ohhh, they did.”Simisola butted in as she took another spoonful of rice.
“Ohhh” I said as I filled my mouth with a spoon of rice too.
Wait, what?!
“Ehn?!” I asked as my head reprocessed her words.
“Yeah. They announced it in the assembly, didn't you hear?!” Simisola asked as her attention not leaving her food, not even for a second.
What?!
I abruptly stood up, leaving my food hurriedly.
But before I ran off, something crossed my mind.
Simisola is also a prefect.
Was she joking?!
“But why aren't you in the meeting?!” I asked her adjusting my glasses as her lips curled up in a smile before she looked at me.
Mtcheeew!
So she was lying, sef.
“I told Snr Daniel that I had menstrual cramps” She told me as she laughed out loud.
“You needed to see his face” She continued as Dorcas joined in laughing.
So there was a meeting going on right now?!
“Shitt!” I cussed out as I sprinted out the hall heading towards where I thought the meeting would be held.
“I'll help you with your food.” Simisola yelled with laughter laced in her voice as I exited the hall.
My food!!!!
I felt my lips curve downwards as I hurriedly made my way upstairs.
I immediately halted when I got to where I knew the meeting will be held.
The door was closed as it always was.
Haeeew!!
If I walked in now, everyone's attention would definitely be on me.
I hated when I was the centre of attention but somehow, I always find myself in that position lately.
If I didn't open up this door now, I would have to do something to make up for my absence and that was even much more scary.
The seniors hated my guts and wouldn't pass on this chance to humiliate me or make me miserable.
Before I got the chance to decide, the door knob twisted signalling someone was coming out.
I felt my heart race in fear as my feet shuffled around hurriedly.
Should I hide or run?!
The door opened up as I was faced with the breath taking face of the Snr Daniel.
I could almost feel my brain shut down as I took in his wonderful scent.
“Wow! You eventually showed up.” He said as he walked out the door closing it behind him and coming to stand right in front of me.
He folded his arms and gave me a disappointed look.
Not this look!
Look where your absent-minded self as landed you.
“I... I am so sorry. I didn't know we...” I started off as he abruptly cut me off.
“It's fine. You didn't miss anything, anyways. But you still have to make up for it” He told me as I shot him a confused look.
“The meeting has ended?!” I asked curiously as he let out a short laughter.
“Ages ago” He shortly replied as I sighed.
“I'm really sorry. I would do anything. Clean the bathroom, sweep the whole school, rake the field...” I trailed off as I ran out of things to mention.
I didn't mean that.
But I had the guts to suggest these tasks because it was Senior Daniel I was standing in front of.
Ohhh, and when I meant all the seniors hated me.
I meant all except him.
“Okayy. I have a much more easier task.”He told me as he urged me to follow him as we walked down.
I smiled as my head pictured this whole scene as if we were walking down the aisle.
Ha ha ha!! In your dreams.
I was completely deep in my imaginations, that I didn't even notice when we were standing in front of the principal's office.
I widened my eyes as I tried to imagine what task he could possibly have for me.
I gulped down nervously as Snr Daniel lightly knocked on the door.
Make a run for it, Oluwanifemi.
“Come in” We heard from the other side of the door as Senior Daniel opened up the door and urging me to go in.
Uhrm, I rather not.
I nodded before walking in nervously as I noticed two other people in the room aside from the principal on his seat.
“Ohhh, Nifemi. Wonderful!” The principal exclaimed excitedly as I forced up a smile bowing my head in courtesy.
“Good afternoon ma” I greeted the woman in the room before also greeting the principal as I adjusted my glasses again.
I looked back and saw Snr Daniel bow to the principal before leaving the room.
“Okay Joshua, Nifemi would show you around the school, while your mother and I finalise the whole thing” The principal told the guy sitting beside the woman in a sickly sweet tone.
Ewww!
“Okay. Thank you” He told him as he stood up turning towards me and signalling for me to lead the way.
He was almost as tall as me and was quite a fine boy too.
He followed me out as I sighed. I hated doing this. Walking around and showing him this school that made me sick.
I am sure he'll expect to hear a few complements and commendations about the school but he wasn't gonna hear it.
Not from my mouth.
“Okay. Uhrm Joshua, I'm Nifemi and I'm in SS2. How old are you and what class are you joining?!” I told him as staring at his face as he stared at me with a flirty smile.
Well, he was going to fit perfectly in this school.
“I am 15 and I'm in Ss1” He said smoothly as I scrunched my brows together.
Woah Woah woah!
Will you wipe that look off your face?!
Actually, we were the same age but he was just in a lower class and no matter our ages, he still had to call me senior.
“Oh, good. Okay, let me start by showing your the ss1 classes.”I told him as I proceeded towards the stairs.
“Wait, Nifemi!” He called out as I paused before looking towards him with a frown on my face.
“It's Snr Nifemi to you” I told him as he scrunched up his brows at the sound of that.
“Okayyyyy. Well, I wanted to ask if we could start from the basketball court. I heard you had that here” He asked me as still not calling me senior but I let it slide before responding.
Hmmm, a jock. I see.
“We do. Okay then. We would be going that way, now” I told him as I turned to towards the opposite direction and this time I heard him trailing behind me.
Well, I shouldn't make this tour boring. I should try to make it informative and tell him random stuffs about the school.
But no compliments!
“So, as you know, the name of this school is...” I started off but paused abruptly in my words.
As I looked ahead, I noticed the familiar figure walking towards our direction.
I felt my jaw clench as my hands tightened into a fist at the mere sight of him.
His tall and lean figure confidently walked towards this direction with his bag swung on one arm as each of his steps towards us made my anger level rise more and more.
Did I have a reason to be angry?!
Maybe not. I just was. And I felt it in every bone of my body.
His face finally became visible as I also didn't halt in my steps.
I walked straight ahead, decided to ignore his stupid ass.
I regulated my breathing as bit my lip in anger.
After what felt like a thousand footstep, his face was now clear enough to make out the fact that he was chewing a gum.
And to also make out the stupid wink he shot at me before walking right passed me.
“Wow! That was some intense shit” I heard from behind me as I noticed Joshua's playful smile as he pointed towards my fist which was still tightly close.
I opened my hand before rolling my eyes at his words.
“So what happened?! Bad breakup?!” He asked as I widened my eyes at his words.
“What?!” I asked him as I chuckled at his question.
Nope. He ruined my life.
Overreacting!
He ruined my secondary school life.
Much better.
