34- Ethan VS Giorgia

Antonio brought Harlow to her doctor's appointment, with both not having a good feeling about the appointment and not saying much to each other in the car. The tightness in her stomach had gotten worse and before they left for the appointment, she noticed she was spotting and kept it quiet.

Antonio held Harlow's hand while she laid on the exam table, waiting for the doctor to come in. She took a deep breath, closed her eyes and whispered, "I'm sorry, Antonio."

He looked down at her and tilted his head to the side. "What's that supposed to mean?"

"You'll see..."

Dr. Walters entered the room and sat down in the chair. He looked at Harlow and sensed by her expression, something wasn't right. "What do you have to report for me today?" he asked.

Harlow remained quiet. She wanted to tell him what she's been experiencing and what she noticed before coming in for her appointment, then sighed loudly, "I'm just going to say it," she said, looking at Antonio. She felt she had no more tears to shed, feeling she's cried enough lately and knew once they see the ultrasound, it wasn't going to be good.

"What's that?" Antonio asked.

"He's gone. I know he's gone and I've come to terms with it last week."

"Last week?" Antonio asked looking at her confused.

"The tightness and the cramping. I know what that means and before we came here, I was spotting." She looked away from Antonio, not wanting to look at him any longer, feeling bad about all the miscarriages and was feeling she let Antonio down.

Dr. Walters could feel her pain and felt bad. He too, knew what she was talking about with everything she's experienced and knew it wasn't a good sign. "Why don't we take a look to be sure," he said quietly. He began examining her and looked at the computer screen, while Antonio looked on. Antonio's heart sank when he noticed there wasn't any movement and closed his eyes.

The doctor turned the machine off, lowered his head and closed his eyes while rubbing his temples with his one hand.

"He's really gone, isn't he?" Antonio asked. Sighing when the doctor shook his head, yes. Antonio dropped down in the seat behind him, placed his elbows on his knees and lowered his head into his hands.

Dr. Walters stood and looked at Harlow sadly. "I'm sorry, Harlow."

Antonio and Harlow left the doctor's office and headed straight for the hospital. Harlow knew he was gone a week ago, but wanted him to be with her longer. Antonio remained quiet until they arrived at the hospital, saying only a few words as they walked inside and checked in. While in the waiting area, Harlow kept looking over to Antonio and placed her hand into his. "Please, say something," she whispered.

He was feeling angry, hurt, and bad for Harlow. Nothing was going right for her and didn't know what to do anymore. He had no words for what was going on and looked over to her. "I love you," he whispered. That's all he could think of saying. Feeling if he said anything else, he wasn't sure how it would come out and didn't want to say the wrong thing and for it to end up into a fight.

Harlow was finally called by the nurse and they headed back to the room, where they were going to help the baby abort. After a couple hours, the baby was born and was handed over to Harlow to hold. "We'll give you two as much time as you need," the doctor said, leaving the room with the nurses.

Antonio and Harlow bonded with their baby boy, naming him Davide Amadeo Russo. Davide meant beloved, and Amadeo meant God's love in Italian. "He's so beautiful Antonio," she cried.

"He is, he will always be remembered. Just remember we'll be with him again someday," he said quietly, fighting back tears.

After an hour, the doctor came into the room, asking if they had enough time with him, then asked what they would like to do. "We'll give him a proper funeral," Antonio said sadly. "I'll make arrangements the moment we get home."

"I'll go start the paperwork and we'll get you released after doing a final exam to make sure you're okay to go home."

Harlow got the okay to go home and on the way home, Harlow talked with Antonio, letting him know she was done trying to have kids. She couldn't take the heartache any longer and how it was becoming too much for her to handle. Antonio understood and wasn't going to argue with her about it. He too, was done trying and couldn't take seeing her hurt any more.

After pulling into the driveway, he turned the car off and turned towards her. "We can talk about this later and maybe it's something we could think about."

"What's that?" she asked.

"I was thinking, if you would like to have more kids, we can always adopt."

She shrugged her shoulders. Unsure of what to think but agreed it would be an option for them. The only thing she didn't like was that she wanted to carry his babies. This was the last thing she wanted to think about and cupped the side of his face. "I'll think about it. Now isn't the right time to be thinking about it. Right now, I'll just enjoy and treasure what we have already, two beautiful twin girls."

Harlow went inside and talked with Ethan, while Antonio went into his office to take a break and to make some phone calls. He looked at the time and made some quick phone calls before they closed. Trying to get things set up for a small funeral, then called his parents, letting them know what happened.

Antonio walked out of the office, scratching his head. "Ah, Harlow?" he said nervously while walking towards her. "I know you might not like to hear this, but my parents just informed me they'll be here in a few days."

"You called them?" she asked, sounding upset. "I don't mind your dad, but your mom?"

"I just called to let them know what happened and she informed me they called our pilot a couple weeks back, setting things up with him to come visit."

Harlow sighed, "Great."

Ethan laughed. "I'll make sure to have a stock pile of snickers bars for her."

A few days went by and they had a small funeral for their baby, with Ethan and a couple of their closest friends attending. After the funeral, they went home, knowing Giorgia and Giovanni would be arriving soon. Harlow hurried to make sure their room was all set up for them all while hoping Antonio would talk them into staying at the hotel. After the week she had, Giorgia was the last person she wanted to deal with.

Antonio left for the airport to pick up his parents, leaving Harlow with Ethan. Ethan walked over to Harlow, grinning and holding out a flask Antonio gave him. "Would you like something to calm your nerves? I'm only asking, since you can have a drink now."

She giggled. "Remember last time and what happened?"

"I do..." he chuckled. "But this isn't bourbon, it's fireball." He took the cover off, waving it under her nose. "It's the same stuff from your wedding, the stuff you actually liked."

She took the flask from his hand and took a swig from it. "That's right. I did like this stuff, it burns a little, but it has good taste," she said, handing it back to him. He reached for the flask, but she pulled it back towards her and placed it at her lips, smiling. "Okay fine, one more," she giggled, taking another drink.

"Sounds like the girls are awake..." Ethan said, when he heard the girls crying. "I can get them if you'd like. You can keep drinking that if you want," he laughed.

"Thanks, Ethan."

While Ethan was grabbing the girls, she took another drink. It had been a long time since she had an alcoholic drink and it was tasting good, almost too good. While she was taking another drink, the front door opened. In came Giorgia and Giovanni, with Antonio behind them, carrying in their luggage.

"I'll go bring these downstairs for you," Antonio said.

Antonio left them at the doorway, carrying their luggage downstairs just as Ethan was carrying the girls down. "MOM! DAD! How nice to finally see you again." Ethan yelled excitedly with a grin.

"Not you again..." Giorgia growled.

"Are you not happy to see me? It's only been a couple years since you last saw me. I was for sure hoping you missed me," Ethan said, grinning as he set the girls down. He stood back up and reached his arms out, hugging Giorgia. "You may have not missed me, but I sure have missed you," he smiled.

Giorgia pushed him to the side and kneeled to see her granddaughters. "Look at you two, you're both getting so big!"

The girls were acting shy and looked up at Ethan with a curious look, wondering who they were. Ethan smiled. "Those are your grandparents," he pointed to Giovanni. "That's your grandpa." He then pointed over to Giorgia. "And this lady with the crazy hair is your wonderful grandma."

Giovanni chuckled and Giorgia stood back up, giving Ethan the stink eye. Ethan smiled, putting his hands up in the air. "Before you go all crazy on me, I brought you something," he said. He walked over to the table smirking as he looked at Harlow, grabbed a bag off the table and walked back over to Giorgia. "I remembered how much you liked snickers and bought you a month's supply," he chuckled while handing the bag to her.

She opened the bag and huffed. "Asshole..." she said, turning around and handing the bag over to Giovanni.

Giovanni couldn't help but laugh and smiled. "Those are for you; would you like me to open one for you?"

Antonio came back up the stairs and saw his mom's face crimson red and walked over to them. "Why is your face all red, are you feeling alright?"

She quickly turned her head towards Antonio and snapped. "I'd feel much better if you got this idiot away from me."

"Ethan?" Antonio asked with a grin.

"Yes, that asshole."

"Oh, you remembered my ass," he smiled. "You know, I slept naked that night just for you. You must have liked it that much and visited me that night. Although I wish you would have woken me up, we could have had a lot of fun."

Giorgia pointed her finger at him. "If you don't shut that damn trap of yours, you'll be finding something else up your ass."

Ethan raised his eyebrows, smirked, and looked at Antonio. He wanted to laugh, but figured he better not. He could see Antonio holding his laugh back as he covered his mouth, then lost it. Laughing as hard as he could, which only made Ethan start laughing. "Mom, Ethan is just messing with you. Relax, it's all in fun."

Giorgia decided to ignore them, reached her hands out to the girls and walked them into the living room, wanting to see and talk to them. She had enough of Ethan and didn't feel like looking at him any longer, hating how Giovanni kept laughing at Ethan. Antonio looked at Ethan and pointed his finger at him, trying not to laugh. "Lay off her now, let's all try to get along here."

Harlow was feeling no pain and sat at the table listening to everyone talk. She wanted to laugh at Ethan and figured she better not, especially since she had to deal with Giorgia for a few days and didn't need any more stress in her life, more than she already has. She knew they had some of Giorgia's wine left and got up to pour her a glass.

She grabbed the wine and tried opening it, then called for Antonio to help her. He walked over to her and could smell the fireball on her breath. He leaned closer to her mouth, smelling her. "Fireball?" he whispered. Harlow shrugged her shoulder and smiled. "Where did you get that?" He glanced over to Ethan, then back to Harlow. "Never mind, forget I even asked," he grinned, shaking his head.

He opened the bottle and poured the glass for Harlow, asking if she was okay to bring it to her. "I'm fine," she said, picking up the glass and walking slowly to Giorgia. She reached over the couch, handing her the glass. "For you," she said.

Giorgia looked at her, then at the glass of wine. "Oh! Thank you," she said, taking the glass from her hand. She looked back at Harlow and bit down on her bottom lip. "I'm sorry about your parents and the son you recently lost," she said, sounding sincerely and shocking Harlow.

"Thank you."

She walked away from Giorgia and over to Antonio, needing a hug. It was nothing Giorgia said to her, it just hit her how she just lost three people in her life within a week and worried about who would be next.

The first month Antonio's parents were there, they enjoyed their time spending it with the kids, as did the kids enjoy spending all their time with their grandparents, hanging around them the entire time. Harlow was amazed with how Giorgia was being nice to her and hoped it wasn't all an act. Ethan however, was having his fun giving Giorgia a hard time, picking on her every chance he could. His parents ended up staying another month, which by the end of their stay, Harlow was ready to scream and pull her hair out.

Giorgia somewhat went back to her old ways, giving her a hard time about the decorations in her home, trying to show her ideas to make the home nicer to look at. The longer she stayed, the more stressed Harlow became and got to the point where she couldn't wait for her to leave. Being they were the only grandparents her kids had left, Harlow tried her hardest to ignore Giorgia, knowing they'll be leaving soon.

The day finally came for Antonio's parents to leave and Harlow couldn't be any more excited. While they were heading out the door, Ethan ran over to the door, giving Giorgia a hug. "I'll be missing you," he said, winking.

"Get out of my face," she snapped.

"You know you love me..." he smirked, kissing her cheek. Giovanni stood back, watching and laughing the entire time. He liked Ethan, loved how he messed with Giorgia and loved how worked up he could get her. He enjoyed Ethan messing with her and liked how she was nicer to Giovanni after Ethan got done with her.

After Antonio got back from the airport, he knew Harlow was in bed and went straight into the bedroom. "They're gone right?" she asked, as he walked into the room.

"Yes, they're on the plane, heading back home." He heard her sighing in relief and smiled while taking his clothes off, then laid them over the side of the chair before crawling into bed.

"I didn't think she was ever going to leave. Two months was way too long for them to be here," she said, then paused, realizing what she said. "I'm sorry, I shouldn't have said that. I know they live further away; you never get to see them and the girls barely know them. I also have to remember they're the girls only grandparents they have left."

He cupped the side of her face, turning her towards him. "I'm sorry my mother still acts the way she does with you. I was hoping after a couple of years, she would have finally gotten it out of her system, apparently not."

"She was okay the first month, then her true colors came out," she sighed. "I don't even know what I did for her to act like that with me."

"Nothing. You did absolutely nothing. She's just wanting to be difficult is all. To me, it seems like it's all an act, a test really."

"Test?"

"Sure, a test to see how you are with me. I feel she's testing your love for me."

"Oh, she's testing me alright..." she said, then giggled and couldn't stop.

His brows dipped and propped his head up, looking down at her while caressing the side of her face. "What's so funny?"

"I do have to say, Ethan enjoys testing her right back and I love it. How about the time he walked over to her, wrapped his arms around her, leaned her back and pressed his lips to hers. Her arms were flopping all over the place and your dad had to walk away from laughing so hard. Now that was hilarious."

Hope you enjoyed the chapter!!🤞🤞😊😊😍😍
