"why the heck are we just now finding out about this?!!!" rory yelled at his daughter who was sitting down in the armchair

she was defenseless as both of her parents were standing over her screaming their lungs out at her. taryn was standing in the kitchen drinking sips of water from her glass cup, watching everything that was happening. she didn't even try interfering

anna and rory weren't letting rowyn talk, they constantly kept interrupting which was very overstimulating for the young teen. "why in the world were you involved in something like that?!!! huh? you should have walked away young lady, we expect better from you!" anna barked

rowyn just gave up on trying to explain herself, she just sat there taking it all in. after church, one of the church members showed rory and anna a video that has surfaced onto tik tok. it was a video of the altercation that occurred between holly and scarlett. rowyn's face was clearly visible throughout the entire video

the video went viral with everyone asking for part two. the title was "popular girl vs. bully" which was sure to bring in views. even strangers on the internet were siding with scarlett. nova ended up having to private her daughters instagram page because many had found her account

on the flip side of things, nova was fussing at scarlett at their estate. "why would you slap her scarlett?! you know to keep your hands to yourself! she could press charges against you!" nova yelled out ready to pull her hair out

scarlett sighed then rolled her eyes, "because she keeps on messing with rowyn."

"well you need to stay away from her!!" anna yelled out stating the obvious

rowyn wiped her eyes ready to be dismissed, "i do stay away from her." she shrugged

her father pointed at her, his finger right in her face. "don't get smart." he warned aggressively

anna started walking around in circles frantically. "well you need to do better. i mean it." anna stormed upstairs, a door slamming could be heard

rory looked at his daughter sighing not uttering another word to her. "you're grounded for two weeks." rowyn dropped her jaw fixing herself to speak but rory shut her down

"no going to scarlett's. you are to go to school and chase's house for tutoring. after that, you are coming straight home. you understand me?" he asked sternly

rowyn nodded, "yes sir." she tiredly said

"get upstairs and start studying, now." he demanded walking out of the living room. taryn and rowyn exchanged looks not speaking to one another. taryn rolled her eyes at her sister walking out onto their backyard porch

nova grabbed both her daughters hands squeezing them, "i'm proud of you for sticking up for rowyn, you are a true friend for that...."

she cupped her face looking into her eyes, "but you have to keep her hands to yourself." she reminded her kid who gave her puppy dog eyes

"i can't punch her even if she calls rowyn out of her name? not one good slap?" scarlett asked in all seriousness, nova chuckled

"no ma'am. now c'mon, bring it in." scarlett shut her eyes hugging her mother tightly, it felt like they both needed this hug

"we have to do something. i can't take holly bullying rowyn anymore, she is going too far." scarlett muffled, nova rubbed her back gently caressing her hair

nova began thinking, what is there to do? monday came unfortunately too quick with nova and scarlett sitting side by side in principal sinclair's office. she had let her boss know she'd be a little late coming in today.

"i can't do anything about holly but call her folks or give her detention." principal sinclair stated sitting down in his seat

scarlett scoffed, "are you serious right now?" she asked in a sarcastic tone. nova tapped her daughters hand, signaling for her to calm down

"it sadly is those two options or rowyn comes in here and tells me that she is being bullied by holly." he confirmed clasping his hands together

"but we're in here telling you that she is being bullied. me, a student is telling you what is happening on school grounds." scarlett laughed stating the obvious, she couldn't believe what she was hearing

"unless five more students come forward, i cannot do anything for rowyn." he said with disappointment

"well can you at least tell holly to back off and leave rowyn alone?" nova asked hoping they could come to some kind of resolution but it seemed like the principal had more bad answers than good

principal sinclair leaned back in his back, "i've done that already."

"well, you aren't doing a very good job." scarlett quickly retorted earning a smack on the back of the head from her mother.

"go to class." she pointed at the door, scarlett kissed her teeth then harshly grabbed her backpack storming out making sure to not slam the door. her mother doesn't play that kind of nonsense. she is okay with her child expressing herself in any kind of way especially when she is angry but she has a low tolerance for back talking and slamming doors

nova turned her attention to the principal hoping they could now get somewhere without others being in the room. "now what is the issue?" she shrugged demanding an answer

"mrs. leigh, this is all far more complicated than you can ever imagine." he deeply sighed sounding like he was stressed out

nova could feel her brain filling up with even more fog the longer this drawn out conversation kept going, "what do you mean?" she asked

"i can't help someone when their parents refuse." he answered with disappointment

the day went by with chase and rowyn at his place. they both had their notebooks place on their laps with rowyn reading questions from the short pop quiz she made up for chase to take.

he is a visual leaner along with someone who does better when you engage with him, "okay what year was of mice and men set in?" she asked tapping her pencil up and down on the fresh five star paper

chase began biting his nail nervously, "it was during the....." he trailed off thinking hard

he gave her an unsure look, "great depression, the 1930s?" rowyn nodded humming loudly

chase was happy, silently celebrating as rowyn started writing down something. she shut her notebook sitting it down on the table then sitting her mechanical pencil beside it

"let's take a little break." she recommended pulling out another book from her backpack, she didn't hesitate beginning to reading. chase nosily looked at the title seeing that it said i never promised you a rose garden written by joanne greenberg

he could see she was very focused on the chapter she was reading, "can i ask you a question?" he abruptly said not liking the silence between them

rowyn quickly glared at him then resumed back to reading, "sure." she nonchalantly said

chase sighed, "why does holly hate your guts?"

she didn't react to the question, kept reading as if chase hadn't spoken. "i don't know, don't really care enough to find out." she answered with a dry-like response. it only made chase ask even more questions

"were you two friends in the past?" he asked which seemingly made her irritated, but she hid it well. she flipped to the next page, "no."

"i don't know, she acts like you've committed some sort of crime against her." he said aloud

"why do you care so much?" she asked in a monotone voice, praying that he would drop this conversation soon

chase shrugged raising an eyebrow, "i don't but maybe you should start sticking up for yourself. scarlett isn't going to be there everytime to fight your battles." he warned

"yeah, thanks for the advice." she sarcastically joshed continuing the rest of their break reading her book that was too intriguing to put down

the next day, scarlett and rowyn were walking down the empty hallways with stacks of paper in their hands. their teacher asked them to go grab some since the printer had ran out.

"c'mon you are telling me there isn't one artist you want to go see in concert?" scarlett urged for an answer, rowyn shrugged

"fleetwood mac? maybe dolly parton?" she suggested, scarlett couldn't even be upset.

"good choices but you need to get with the times. artists like billie eilish and sabrina carpenter are our generations new stars."

"who?" she asked in all seriousness not knowing who in the hell these people are. rowyn has no social media and is not allowed to listen to music, ESPECIALLY secular music.

the only time she can listen to music is from old records her parents have in their garage. it makes much sense for her not to know any artist from this new generation unless scarlett keeps her up to date but that is rare

rowyn is someone who doesn't care about celebrities, same goes for scarlett. yes, she is a fan of a few but she respects their art plus is inspired by many. but she leaves it at that.

"how have you never heard ocean eyes?" scarlett asked in disbelief.

the two hit a corner, "i don't know, i just—-" the two came to a sudden halt seeing something that shocked both girls. holly and chase were practically swallowing each other

his arms were wrapped around her waist while she tugged onto his hair. they were shoving their tongues down each others throats.

"c'mon, let's go another way." rowyn whispered turning back around. scarlett quietly scoffed disgusted by what she was seeing

she muffled, "jerk."

this book is flopping like no tomorrow but i'm still grateful for every single one of you who is reading and engaging!! i love you guys!!! thank you everyone <3
