prisoner
there was pandemonium happening during one of the biggest days of rowyn's life. it was finally the day of her purity ball. everyone was running around like chickens with their heads cut off as rowyn sat there getting her makeup done by none other than her mom.
bree and taryn were fighting like cats and dogs, "i'm almost done!! just let me finish really quick!" taryn whined while trying to curl her hair
"it doesn't take that long to do your hair!" bree scolded trying to get ahold of the curling iron but taryn kept pushing her back with her free hand. rowyn rolled her eyes as her mom began doing her lips
"if i burn you then that is going to be on you." taryn warned with a dry voice, bree groaned in frustration with their mother beginning to get fed up with the two who have been at each others throats since early in the morning
anna spoke up, "okay you know what? get out."
"but mom—-" anna shushed taryn.
"out! you both are getting on my last nerve. and take the curling iron with you, argue about it somewhere else please. your sister doesn't need this negative energy right now."
both girls scoffed at their mother with taryn yanking the curling iron out of the plug in the wall. they continued arguing up until they walked out of the room, shutting the door quietly. they still could be heard until they weren't any longer
rowyn shook her head. sisters, she thought in her head. her three siblings all have completely different vibes. her oldest sister ellie is the glue that holds everyone together. a goofy woman with a bright personality and is someone who rowyn adores. out of all of her sisters, ellie is definitely the one she gets along with the most.
they have always been close. ellie was basically like a second mother to rowyn was growing up. trying to teach her the ways of navigating life. being there for her first period explaining it all to her; showing her how to use pads and tampons. sneaking her candy when her parents would forbid her from eating it. ellie was her therapist, she could talk to her about anything. rowyn found herself smiling thinking of her sister, hearing her laugh as it appeared in her brain
"what are you smiling about?" anna asked her daughter bringing her back to real life. a frown appeared amongst her face realizing ellie wasn't here and isn't coming. ellie has been distant from the family for quite some time which hurts rowyn badly.
rowyn fixed her face clearing her throat, "nothing." she quietly answered tugging onto her dress nervously, her mother immediately noticed swatting her hand, "don't do that. you'll ruin the dress."
"sorry." she mumbled with her mother taking a step back examining her daughter who looked perfect. her ginger red hair was in a half up, half down ponytail with a white bow clasped to her ponytail with her initials plus her fathers stitched on the right bottom corner of the bow. she was wearing. a long sleeved white victorian dress sat on her body with white ballet flats amongst her tiny feet.
she smelled like a soft, delicate flower. barley any kind of makeup sat on her face, minimal makeup is the only exception in their household. her mother sighed out of relief, "you look perfect, do you have your speech ready?"
rowyn nodded watching her mom walk over to the dresser beginning to brush her bone straight hair, "yes ma'am." she answered
"remember it needs to be perfect and no tears. we can't let everyone think you are weak rowyn." her mother reminded her sounding strict
"i got it." she forced a smile. anna nodded then whistled, "all right. i'm going to go speak to the guests really quick, see how everything is going out there then i'll be back." she informed quickly walking out, the sound of her heels were heard hitting the wooden floor. the door closed then suddenly opened again which alerted rowyn who turned to see it was bree
she quietly shut the door speaking, "you okay?" she asked with concern going over to her baby sister kneeling down in front of her. rowyn gripped the sheets on the bed
"not really, i wish ellie was here." she finally admitted aloud. bree looked deflated hearing her name, she grabbed her sisters hands squeezing them
she let out a sigh, "i miss her too." bree nodded. "would it make you feel better if i sent her some pictures of you today?" bree asked with sincerity
rowyn looked at her with her eyes lighting up quickly, "you'd do that for me?" bree nodded
"absolutely. she misses you." bree stated. none of them had contact with ellie except for bree. if they contacted her, they would get in big trouble. while others kids have iphones and androids... taryn and rowyn have blackberry phones under their parents names. if they even attempted to contact ellie, their parents would find out in a flash
bree immediately got off her parents phone bill as soon as she graduated having enough money saved up to get herself an up to date phone. she felt free leaving the walsh estate feeling like she could finally live her life. bree has always been the sweetheart out of the four girls. the kind of girl to give the clothes off her back, the kind of person who wants to help any and everyone who crosses her path.
bree was also hard on herself growing up which caused her to isolate from her sisters and not really be able to grow a bond with them the way she wanted too. she looks back on the past a lot and regrets not spending enough time with them
she is currently a freshman in college attending the university of tennessee. three hours away from home which is perfect because she isn't too far nor too close to home. she has been having a great time being out in the world on her own. rowyn quickly let go of her hands standing up getting herself together, "thank you, bree." she said quietly looking down at the floor
"you're welcome." bree smiled
after their special dance together of the dance floor, rowyn began to make her speech. everyone who attended was currently sitting in their assigned seats watching as she spoke into the microphone sounding clear and concise with her words.
chase rolled his eyes leaning back into his chair, ready to go. he didn't understand why his parents came then forced him to considering they know nothing about rowyn or her family.
but he knew it was mainly for people to know they support. plus the new possible preacher showing up gets him some good attention and publicity. but that wasn't why they showed up. they showed up because they know how these kind of things are frowned upon...
"dad, thank you for teaching me so many things. God knew exactly what he was doing making you my father...." rowyn smiled happily
chase sighed, amelia turned over to look at her son hitting his knee. "sit up straight, now." she gritted quietly. chase did as told leaning over to whisper, "why did we have to show up to this stupid, weird event?" amelia hushed him bringing her attention back to rowyn who gave a beautiful, touching speech that had many in tears after she was done speaking
"now that all this hard work and sacrifice has gone into this ball, you really are going to have to keep your word and save yourself for marriage rowyn." mrs. harlow advised with seriousness looking rowyn dead in the eye
rowyn felt overwhelmed beginning to grow flustered, "um, yes ma'am."
"yeah honey. pre-martial sex is the biggest sin of all plus you can't disappoint the Lord most importantly your father." luna, a church member added
"your father only expects the best from you." harlow said with rowyn feeling like her walls were staring to cave in
"yes ma'am—- um excuse me. i need to get some fresh air." rowyn quickly said walking off not letting them get another word in. she squeezed past all of the party goers eventually making it outside.
she exhaled heavily sitting on the empty porch swing, to her surprise nobody was outside the enormous old hollywood like venue. she felt relief. it was all beginning to be too much with everyone coming up to her.
saying the same things over again and basically saying she was going to hell if she didn't obey the rules of her own purity ball. she knew this without a doubt but was tired of hearing the same old thing over and over.
rowyn could feel herself calming down as the crisp yet humid air was hitting her skin. swinging easily back and forth on the porch swing helped her remember that in this moment, she is in control.
the back door opened. chase shut it then his eyes met with rowyn, they didn't utter a word to each other.
"i hope you know you don't have to listen to anything those judgmental people are saying, especially those women." he stated throwing her off guard
rowyn fluttered her eyes lost, "excuse me?"
chase licked his lips putting his hands in his pocket walking closer to her, he made sure to keep a fine distance between them. "i heard what some of them were saying to you..." he looks in her blue eyes shrugging his shoulders nonchalantly, "you don't have to listen to them. your body, your choice." he verified
rowyn grew defensive, "you're wrong actually. i do have to listen to them and the Lord. my body is his temple." she stated with confidence
chase couldn't help but to laugh, "so you're one of those christians." rowyn scoffed, "what?" she asked with squinted eyes
"one of those christian girls who is a prude. someone who thinks she is better than everyone around her and judges everyone." chase concluded crossing his arms
"i find it funny how you are standing here trying to make it seem like you know me." rowyn retorted
chase clapped back quickly, "i don't know you and don't care to get to know you. but sometimes it is obvious on the surface." he then went back inside leaving rowyn all by her lonesome
the rest of the night was rowyn drowning with people constantly coming up to her. reading scriptures to her, giving her advice about not falling into temptation, telling her to be the perfect daughter, etc.
all she could think was... when is it going to be time to go home. her and chase caught themselves looking at each other throughout the rest of the event.
wow almost at 2k reads... i cannot thank you guys enough i love you all. like seriously ya'll are amazing 🤍
