bardstown homecoming dance 2024

it is officially the night for the bardstown homecoming/fall dance. many students were currently parading around the town with friends or photographers capturing these special moments. rowyn got ready with her parents right there by her side along with her sisters.

despite rory kicking his daughter out of the house last night, they both put that aside for this very special day. when gracie was done with her makeup, she took a few pictures of rowyn then revealed her to everyone. they all gasped seeing rowyn, it felt like they were looking at a different person.

anna and rory had their arms crossed as bree walked over to rowyn with her hands on her mouth, "you—-" bree chuckled smiling cheekily, "you look absolutely stunning."

rowyn looked unsure of herself running her hands down her dress uncomfortably, "really?" she questioned in a confused voice

"you're kidding me right? yes! of course!" bree said hyping her up. taryn on the other hand was sitting on the bed playing with a candy wrapper, not even bothering or attempting to give her sister encouraging words or assurance

"yeah rowyn, you're ethereal." gracie added in, rowyn nervously chuckled, "thanks." she whispered in a low tone

"c'mon let's go take some pictures of you out in the hallway and on the stairs!" gracie excitedly suggested, "okay." rowyn quietly said, the two of them walked out of the hotel room together, gracie closed the door

bree scoffed looking at her parents, "you know it'd be really nice if you guys told your daughter how beautiful she is or looks especially since tonight is her first official dance." bree cautioned

anna scoffed hearing the attitude within bree's voice, "compliments can sometimes lead to confidence. confidence leads to cockiness."

"and unfortunately, confidence is something rowyn doesn't have which is exactly why she is always unsure of herself even when she does a great job." bree reminded her parents

"she'll be fine bree, now stop it—-"

"but she won't be! she needs to be given positive words and advice, so does taryn!" bree interjected. compliments have never existed in the walsh household. each of their kids could win a noble piece praise, rory and anna still wouldn't congratulate them or tell them good job. when ellie was awarded as an all-american cheerleader, her parents didn't bat an eye. they could have cared less

for example last night after the play, they didn't say anything to rowyn. they completely ignored her at dinner even after bree had left. acting like she was a ghost, they were pissed about her not informing them that she'd be singing and dancing in a play that is mainly directed towards the +lgbtq community.

it honestly hurt her feelings but she put on a poker face, she kept constantly apologizing to her parents but they told her to shut up. they didn't want to hear anything she had to say.

rory cleared his throat loudly, walking up to bree getting close to her. she normally would shudder, but she didn't budge which her father noticed. "oh now you have some courage within you now that you are out of the house?" he asked in a deep voice

bree looked at her father intensely beginning to laugh, "what's it to you—-" in a flash, he grabbed her wrist but bree snatched away from him, "what are you going to do? hit me!! do it. i'm not scared of you anymore." she said standing her ground, which upset her father

anna quickly ran up grabbing her husbands arm, taryn grabbed bree redirecting her to the opposite side of the room. rory breathed heavily then laughed, "i don't know who that little girl is anymore." he pointed to bree while looking at his wife who was trying to calm him down

bree hastily scoffed, "i'm not a little girl anymore, i never was your little girl."

anna gritted her teeth scanning at bree, "bree that is enough—-"

"but it isn't enough. you both are shit fucking parents!!!!!!" bree yelled loudly, they all gasped never ever hearing her cuss until now. rory widened his eyes, anna scoffed in disgust and taryn tried to take her sister into the other room but bree refused

anna walked up to her daughter in despair, "excuse me?" she asked thinking she was starting to hear things

"you heard me loud and clear—-" anna slapped bree across the face viciously, bree touched her cheek angrily breathing in heavily. her eyes were widened due to pure rage, anna just stood there staring at her daughter. bree grabbed her purse leaving the hotel room slamming the door shut

gracie and rowyn stopped seeing bree walk in the opposite direction. she pushed the exit door open aggressively walking down the long flight of stairs. it was alarming for rowyn who was worried since she heard yelling a few minutes ago.

rowyn said, "i-i'll be right back." she assured her makeup artist who just smiled and nodded ahead. rowyn walked into the hotel room seeing her father sitting at the edge of the bed running his fingers through his hair.

anna was unseen in the bathroom getting herself together, taryn stood in the corner biting the inside of her cheek growing anxious. "what happened?"

rory breathed gloomily, "nothing." he quickly answered sounding upset, but rowyn couldn't help but to be concerned. bad energy was felt as soon as she stepped inside the room

"dad what happened?" she asked innocently

rory sniffled, "nothing rowyn. just mind your own business." he spat rubbing his eyes

"but—-"

he abruptly stood up yelling, "GO!!!" strictly pointing towards the door. rowyn flinched raising her hands in defense exiting the room in a hurry

gracie looked up from her phone, rowyn quietly shut the door, "everything okay?" gracie asked kindly but worriedly

rowyn half smiled, "yeah!" she replied, sounding assuring yet indecisive. she wasn't sure what just occurred in that hotel room and to be honest she began thinking maybe it was best she didn't know

the ride back to the house was silent, thank goodness the photographer was waiting for them. when they got back, rowyn and taryn went straight to posing for pictures being able to get away from their parents who were watching from afar

both girls did solo photos then a few together which was weird for them. she had to guide the two girls on how to pose together. both of them brought something different to the camera, luckily they were good listeners.

they both even flashed those pretty smiles hugging each other tightly as the photographer took multiple photos of them. the minute she said she was done, they both took a huge step away from each other starting to ignore each other yet again. when they were finished, their parents stepped in to take a few photos with both daughters

taryn and rowyn now await in the living room for their rides, after fifteen minutes, a honk was heard outside mean taryn's ride is here. she got up slinging her purse across her chest about to run out of the house, anna stopped her quickly hugging and kissing her cheek. she then let her daughter go.

she hopped in the back of the limo earning loud applause from all her friends. the limo consisted of many of her teammates along with their dates plus holly of course. taryn definitely was an immediate standout from everyone in the limo.

taryn has never had to do too much nor has felt the need to. that is one rare similarity that her and rowyn share. taryn chose her own outfit for the homecoming dance making sure to be comfortable and cozy.

julia complimented her, "okay giving us 90s goth girl and tim burton vibes!!!" she yelled happily with everyone of the girls agreeing

one of the boys leaned over asking justin, "who is tim burton?" being as serious as possible, justin smacked him upside the head, "idiot." he muttered shaking his head embarrassed

taryn smiled brightly upon hearing one of her favorite directors name. tim burton has inspired taryn since she was a little girl. from his movies to his goth culture to his drawings. but due to how her parents are, she clearly is very distinctive when being inspired by him

taryn is one of the females in school who is undeniably cool. because she doesn't try too hard. the teenager is being her true, authentic self. of course taryn in a popular girl in school but she also is known as a mean girl. taryn isn't a bully by any means, she surrounds herself with bullies such as holly but that isn't her style

the reason she is a mean girl is because she is very much rude to everyone other than her friends. she doesn't treat many with respect, every response that comes out of her mouth is filled with an attitude or sarcasm. plus mixed with bluntness, it's a disaster. which explains why her and rowyn barley get along, two smart mouths don't mix together

the doorbell rang again making rowyn stand up, she went to answer the door to chase nervous standing there with a plastic container in his huge hands. chase parted his mouth open not expecting to see rowyn looking like this. he isn't used to seeing her dress up or put on makeup.

he stammered for a second attempting to put a few words together, rowyn nodded forward raising a brow at his erratic behavior. she has never seen him this nervous, it definitely isn't the chase she is used too

chase swallowed the huge lump in his throat, "you look great." he complimented

rowyn inspected chase seeing it was an all black affair for him as he wore an all black suit. his dark brown hair wasn't in its usual, messy state. it was gelled up making a difference in his appearance. "so do you." she said quietly

chase chuckled, "thanks, um i got you a corsage." he replied quickly opening the container, it revealed a beautiful gold rose flower that matched the gold sequins on her dress perfectly

"it's beautiful." she answered in a whisper, "thanks, i spent two hours looking for a flower that i thought was perfect for you." he happily informed

rowyn shrugged, "what does a rose represent?"

chase gestured for her to hold her hand out so he could place the corsage onto her wrist, "well, a regular roses represents love, royalty, beauty, sensuality, secrecy and mysticism. and a gold rose represents joy, friendship, loyalty and eternity." he said rolling the pearl beaded corsage onto her wrist, the white pearls felt cold against her warm skin

he was making sure to stare in her eyes when answering her question, rowyn was stuck feeling hypnotized under his strong gaze. "i don't really have any of those qualities." she laughed awkwardly

"you definitely have all of them." chase defended sounding sure of himself

rowyn change the subject, "let's just get out of here before my parents——-" before she could even get the rest of her sentence out, her parents appeared out of the blue

anna gasped loudly, "oh my goodness!! chase you look so handsome." she beamed taking a look at his suit, greeting him happily

"you look fresh kid." rory said, chase kept a straight face giving a forced yet toothless smile, "thank you sir." he said quietly

"c'mon get in here! i want to take some pictures of you guys!" anna excitedly said now showing the most enthusiasm for the first time during this whole entire day. anna pulled chase inside the house, rowyn started rolling her eyes

"mom we really have to get going—-" anna shooed her daughter, "just a few pictures then you guys can get on your mary way, i promise!" anna said having her panasonic camera in her hands ready for action

"alright you two squeeze in together!" anna said, rowyn was hesitant but got close to chase smelling his expensive cologne. chase carefully stood close enough but respected her boundaries keeping his hands down by his side as rory kept a close eye on him

after taking one hundred pictures of them, anna let them run off into the sunset. the drive to the school gym was silent, rowyn showed signs of nervousness constantly rubbing her thigh for comfort. when they pulled up they saw many kids entering the inside of the school heading down to the gym

chase eventually found a parking spot, putting the car in park. he turned his body to face rowyn who was now fiddling with her fingers, "are you okay?" he asked, rowyn looked out of the window seeing yuki, blade and riley walked hand in hand up the stairs into the school

she looked at chase fearfully shaking her head no, chase looked at her concerned. "what's wrong?" he asked

rowyn widened her eyes slightly shrugging, "i'm afraid." she answered clearly with a light chuckle

she isn't used to being amongst her peers like this. plus she started thinking about her older sister ellie. who promised her that she'd be here but that was before life hit her hard, she wasn't upset but she still yearned for her sisters presence. she missed her raspy voice along with the goofiness she brought amongst the family. their house is so quiet and boring without her around

many kids have started paying more attention to rowyn after the play plus many are eager to see what she looks like all dolled up. "well we can sit out here as long as you want. we'll go in whenever you are ready." chase assured, rowyn started fiddling with her hands again

chase made a bold decision to place his hand on top of hers which alerted her, she looked at him not feeling the normal urge to jump or move her hands away.... she let him squeeze her hands for comfort, "it's going to be okay, i'll be right by your side plus we don't even have to stay the whole time if you don't want too." chase announced

"really?" she asked in a surprised voice, chase nodded shooting her an apparent nod. "yeah. we could leave early and go get some food or something, whatever you want. i really don't like things like this if we are being honest."

rowyn felt her heartbeat coming back to its normal rate. she felt at ease hearing chase say that plus she remembered that she had a group of amazing people in there that were going to do everything in their power to make sure she enjoys this beautiful night

"i'm ready." she squeezed his hand, chase smiled getting out going over to her side to open the door for her. he grabbed her hand helping her get out

a group of students saw them beginning to whistle, "okay chase!! we see you!!" a guy yelled loudly hyping him up, chase chuckled shutting the door

some females gasped getting a good look at rowyn refusing to believe that is the same girl they see five days out of the week, "wow! she looks beautiful!"

her friend agreed, "she has always been beautiful but wow!!" she pulled her friend up the stairs since she practically couldn't keep her eyes off rowyn. they began walking towards the concrete stairs rowyn clutching on chase's arms, he chuckled quietly

"i got you. just breathe and follow my lead, okay?" he asked, she nodded

they started making their way upstairs, chase opening the glass doors for her. when they entered the school, you could hear the music coming from down the hall. it was dark and deserted where they stood, the only light coming in was from the reflection of the moon.

they both made their way to the auditorium, walking arm in arm with each other almost looking like a couple. the minute they walked in.... everyone stopped dancing, stopped pouring punch and stopped gossiping. gasps were heard throughout the place even from teachers.

scarlett was on the dance floor with her friends. talia was the first to see chase and rowyn standing in front of the entrance door, "ROWYN!!" she yelled not caring about how people looked at her

rowyn saw talia happily waving, she waved back flashing a quick smile. scarlett gasped, "oh my goodness!!! rowyn!!" she screamed, they all ran to her circling around her

"you looked gorgeous." scarlett said in awe

luke was amazed, "cousin, you are perfect." he complimented happily, he felt like he was seeing a girl transform into a woman beneath his eyes. everyone showered her with love which helped her feel more relaxed.

talia snuck over to chase, the two of them dapping each other up, "looking fresh my man!!" she said

chase grinned from ear to ear chuckling, "so do you." he said referring to her plaid tuxedo outfit. after everyone was done chatting luke yelled, "let's go dance!!" he suggested

rowyn spoke up, "oh no i'm good—-"

"we're not hearing any of that tonight. your cute ass is coming on this dance floor right now, i don't care if you just stand there like a statue, you're coming. let's go!" scarlett concluded grabbing her bestfriends wrist leading the way

their favorite song ever started playing which was dreams by fleetwood mac, scarlett stopped looking at rowyn who started playfully rolling her eyes. "that is our song!!" scarlett cooed

rowyn had her arms crossed awkwardly standing in front of her best friend, who playfully punched her arm, "dance!!!"

"now here you go again
youu say you want your freedom....."

she began dancing to the beat of the song quickly being in sync with her bestfriend who was able to put a smile on her face. chase was nearby watching rowyn start to let loose

meanwhile on the other side of town, bree was over at nova's house. she currently had a bag of frozen peas sitting upon her cheek, nova walked into the living room handing her a soda. "thank you." she whispered

"you're welcome sweetheart." nova said sitting down on the ottoman couch near bree who was staring at her feet that had recently been done. her pedicure looked good and fresh

nova looked at bree feeling bad for her. she came all this way for her two sisters and it has been hell on earth since coming home. all bree wanted to do was create happy moments with them but her parents have to always turn everything into negativity

nova started caressing her dark hair, "i'm sorry that this trip home isn't going how it is supposed to." she brought up

bree chuckled, "it's okay. i just thank you for letting me stay here for the rest of my time home."

"of course. you are always welcome here but i think you need to have a sit down conversation with your parents before you head back off to college." nova advised making bree get defensive

"i'm not the problem, none of this is my fault." bree quickly said pointing at her chest

"you're absolutely right sweetheart but at the end of the day they still are your parents—-"

"why are you acting like they are humans?" bree cut nova off who couldn't do anything but bite her lip

"my parents were not the best people in the world either...." nova sighed, bree started to calm down, her face softening knowing about nova's upbringing

nova softly smiled, "listen to me sweetie...." she scooted closer to bree who had tears running down her face, nova wiped them away.

nova started rubbing her leg helping her relax, "i'm not saying that you have to be close with your parents, hell you don't even have to like them or talk to them ever again. but..." nova placed her index finger on bree's chest causing her lip to quiver

"you need to forgive them for everything they have done to you and your sisters. not for them but for you. because i don't want to see you end up filled with so much hatred and evil. you're better than that."

bree shook her head beginning to cry even more, she sniffled loudly. nova grabbed some clean tissues handing them to her, "but i hate them..." bree whispered

nova was about to say something but bree finished telling her how she feels, "i hate them so much. i see why things have panned out the way they have." bree admitted, she didn't want too but she has been thinking this for a long time

nova looked at bree shocked to hear her say that especially knowing what she was referring too, bree started to cry more. "oh honey... come here." bree fell into nova's arms beginning to let it all out, "i miss him..." she cried out

nova began to silently cry, "i know baby. i miss him too." she whispered started to run her fingers through bree's hair

back at the dance rowyn and chase were sitting at an empty table watching her friends sing their hearts out to drivers license sung by olivia rodrigo. ever since the song started playing, something changed within rowyn. she seemed sad, her palms were sweaty and she was refusing to say anything to chase who couldn't keep his eyes off her

"hey chase." he heard holly say, chase shut his eyes, "fuck...." he muttered quickly standing up, "hello." he answered simply seeing that holly had her little entourage standing behind her including taryn

rowyn didn't pay her any attention, wiping the sweat off her palms onto her dress not thinking straight. "hello rowyn!" holly called out

"hi..." rowyn said not looking at her

holly chuckled, "you clean up nicely."

chase could tell holly was on her bullshit, "holly just keep walking." he leaned down whispering in her ear, he then backed up with holly looking at him for a second seeming emotionless

"gladly." she sarcastically said. "hey rowyn, i picked the next song leaving a message specifically for you." rowyn glanced up at holly seemingly confused as to what she meant, holly smirked then winked. her and her homegirls quickly walked away

"you okay?" chase asked. "um, yeah i'm okay."

the dj then made an announcement, "alright!! this next song is being played thanks to the lovely ms. holly monroe!!!" he said with many people starting to clap

scarlett sighed, "oh gosh..." she muttered

"this song is dedicated to ronan walsh." the dj said in a respectful manner. everyone felt their mouths drop. teachers gasped loudly, principal sinclair immediately went up to the dj starting to chew him out

"excuse me?!" scarlett asked about to walk over to the dj but luke pulled her back. rowyn felt her heart starting to swell up, a lump began forming in her throat. she felt sick. taryn also felt hurt, betrayed. she looked at holly with pure disgust.

warwick avenue by duffy began playing which made rowyn get up and run out of the auditorium. chase began running after her, "rowyn wait!!" luke said also chasing in after her along with talia, kelly, riley, blade and yuki. scarlett had a delayed reaction but got herself together walking over to holly

"what the hell is wrong with you holly?!" taryn scoffed running off to find her little sister. holly just rolled her eyes, "oh please why is everyone so sensitive?"

pretty much everyone was purely disgusted with her. scarlett didn't hesitate to throw a drink in her face then punch her in clean in the nose making her fall back into her friends arms, "out of all the shit you have done.... this is unacceptable. you are an evil, worthless bitch and i pray you get what's coming to you." scarlett spat storming away

holly scoffed pinching her nose that was now leaking blood. her friends helped her stand up then started attending to her aid. everyone headed up the stairs which is the last place they saw rowyn running

chase stopped seeing scarlett make her way upstairs, he grabbed her arm. "chase, please not right now." she begged

"wait, w-what's going on?" he asked

"chase i need to find rowyn, now is not the time for this." scarlett tried to stay calm even though it was clear as day she is currently livid for her two closest friends.

"who is ronan—"

scarlett began growing irritated, "goddamn it!! her brother, her fucking brother!" she yelled out

chase was bewildered hoping he was being pranked but he knew he wasn't due to scarlett's facial expression. he had so many questions beginning to stutter not understanding what scarlett meant

"where is he?" chase asked genuinely confused

scarlett clenched her jaw and fist, "he's dead, chase. now stop asking so many questions." scarlett spat. her heels could now be heard clinking against the stairway

chase felt lost, hopeless and demented.
