We spent the rest of our weekend basking in the shade beneath our willow tree, drawing images with sticks into the dirt and enchanting fallen tree leaves to fly around. The grounds were scattered with frolicking folks, and I leaned against the tree, strand of hair escaping my ponytail and framing my face.
"So..." I drawled awkwardly, breaking the comfortable silence between the three of us as usual. Lily looked up from the book she was reading, and Severus stopped enchanting leaves, tucking his wand into his robe pocket.
"Yes...?" Lily drawled back, holding the 's' out long enough to the point where it got slightly annoying.
"I'M BORED!" I screeched as loud as I could, startling students and a few birds from the tree. "Merlin, I call myself a resourceful Slytherin yet I can't come how with anything to do."
"Oi!" Severus complained, holding his hands over his ears tenderly. "My eardrums! I reckon I'm bloody deaf now!"
"Sorry." I said apologetically. I had screamed practically into his ear, something that Sirius and James had done to me before. "I feel your pain, Black and Potter have done it to me before."
"Well, rest assured, from what I heard your screaming capabilities are on point." Lily said, patting my shoulder. "You know, during potions or herbology, you should really do that to Potter. Or Black. They're both such arrogant toe rags."
"Oh no, here she goes again." I whispered to Severus, as Lily went into rant mode, her eyes blazing.
"-I mean, can't I get a bloody moment of peace? Every single second of the day he seems to be standing right behind me, practically begging me to go out with him! Why can't he get the hint and leave me alone! Why, I've got half a mind to go up to him and hex him into oblivious, the bloody prat! And Black too! They're always picking on you, Severus, and he does hit on you too, Cas, whether you notice it or not. He complains all the time about all the detentions he's in, when he's pretty much asked McGonagall for every single one of them!" Lily paused to breath, her eyes now livid and full of hate. "I can't stand the two of them! Always messing around during study time, distrupting classes, can't learn a bloody thing when they're off doing something stupid! Potter is always pelting me in the black with crumpled up paper and-"
"Oi! Evans! Go out with me?"
"I'd rather be killed slowly by Basilisk venom!" Lily hissed at the passing boy. "Potter, take the hint and leave me alone!"
"It's alright, love. I don't mind your temper." He said, dropping down to sit next to our group, the rest of his mates following. The boys had gotten their animal head situation sorted out by McGonagall the second they'd left the Great Hall. To say they were still seeking revenge was an understatement.
"Don't call me that." Lily said, at the same time that Severus snapped:
"Don't call her that."
"Oh, why not, Snivellus? Is she yours? No, of course not, who would want to go out with a slime-ball like yourself." Sirius jeered, sitting down next to me and throwing an arm across my shoulder. I threw it off and glared at him, and he only returned my death-stare with an innocent grin.
"Oh, shove off, Black." I spat, scooting away from the annoying black haired boy. "Hey Remus, hey Peter."
"What? No hello to us!?" James exclaimed. "I'm deeply hurt, Elise."
"Oh, sorry, my bad. Hello, arrogant toe rag." I greeted politely, flashing him a smile.
"What about me?" Sirius pouted. I groaned and turned to face my least favorite out of the bunch.
"Go die in a hole, petty poodle." I snarled. The boys chuckled among themselves at the word 'poodle,' something I didn't understand. I didn't question it though, not wanting to feel stupid.
"I think that's the nicest thing you've ever said to me, Elise!" Sirius scoffed. "Good afternoon to you too, soap dope." I scowled at the familiar nickname. Cascade, my name, was also a brand name of muggle soap, something Sirius was delighted by when he found out.
"Egocentric buffoon."
"Walking dictionary." I rolled my eyes, he was referring to all the times I'd insulted him and he'd used a word that didn't make sense back, so I'd tell him the definition.
"Playboy."
"You know it, itty bitty."
"I'm not that short-" I began, but Lily cut me off.
"As much as I find it incredible amusing to watch you lovebirds bicker all day, I'd like to leave now, thank you very much. We have a two foot long essay due in History of Magic tomorrow that I believe you haven't started yet, Cas." She said, and I swelled with anger.
"You did not just go there, Evans!" I shouted, probably quite red in the face. "I despise Black! We are never, ever, going to be lovebirds! That's like me saying that you and James will end up together with a child named...erm...Harry or something!"
"Great, that was a confidence booster." James said sarcastically. "Although I do feel a tad bit better considering that you and Sirius will end up together at one point, don't try and deny it. Evans and I can even agree on this, you two are made for each ot-"
"Potter!" Sirius bellowed, and launched himself sat the bespectacled boy. "You did not just say that!"
"Ok, ok! Mercy, ow, mercy!" James begged, and Sirius reluctantly stood up from where he'd tackled James. "I get it! Don't say it again! Merlin!"
"We hate each other, it's really the only thing we can actually agree on." I spoke, glowering at Sirius. "You're a ruddy prat, you know, right?"
"Oh, you've told me, pipsqueak." He muttered.
"So let's agree on one more thing." I suggested holding out my hand to Sirius. Lily, Severus, James, Remus and Peter all watched in fascination. "Let's agree to hate each other forever."
"Agreed. Count of three, spit and shake?"
I made a face, but refused to back out. "One."
"Two."
"Three."
With that, we both spat into our palms and shook hands, only to furiously run over to the Lake and wash them a half-second later.
"I can't believe you just wiped your spit on my hand!" I accused angrily.
"What? You did it to me too!" Sirius shot back.
Lily and James shared a look from beneath the willow tree, watching their separate friends bicker.
"They're definitely made for each other."
