When Times do Pass
With hands shaking,
I drop my pen
When he yells,
"What is this?"
His demanding shouts
Turn to angry huffs;
"Read it," he says
As my tears roll down.
With a shaking voice,
I clearly my throat,
And hold before me
What I had wrote.
"To you, a friend,
Of great and small,
The one who loved
And knew them all;
You were the one
Who saw dark hearts
And let them in
With outspread arms.
"A girl like you
We did not deserve
In such a cruel
And heartless world,
For all you wished
Was to warm up our hearts,
And without you,
My world is falling apart.
"I wish that
You could know
Of all the things
You've done,
And see all
Your glory
That's written
In the stars.
"It was you who always knew
That violence was not the way
So you made your enemies
Into your friends instead;
Your quiet voice
Could stretch for miles
To spread your message
And your kindness.
To us, to beasts,
To demons and monsters,
Whom you did friend
And rightly honor.
"But you are lost,
And we lost our way.
Farewell, sweet girl,
And may you rest well
Knowing your kindness
Did change us as well."
My gaze driftes up
To look at the terrible beast.
His knees fell down
To the ground with a THUD
And he wept in his hands,
The tears streaming down.
"Would she have cried
To see me like this?
For I have turned
From the lessons she taught me
And am treating her memory
As though her words meant nothing!"
"Go, and let me
Mourn her in peace!"
And so I left
The creature to grieve.
