Rage.
Anger.
Anguish.
Pain.
All of them flashed before his eyes as he watched Mercer grab Wooyoung's chin.
The man had ruined everything! He didn't deserve to live anymore.
"LET GO OF HIM!"
Mingi released his hold on the handcuffs he had unlocked a long time ago and charged forward. His yelling, surprising movement, and speed all had Mercer frozen to the spot, allowing Mingi to tackle him.
They stumbled backward and slammed into Mercer's desk, sending everything on top flying in all directions. "You bastard!!"
Mercer exhaled sharply, indicating the wind had been knocked out of him. Mingi used this to climb on top of him and pin him. He then pulled back his right arm and threw all his strength into the punch he executed next.
The feeling of his fist connecting with Mercer's cheek sent a thrill threw Mingi that he had longed for since he first remembered what Mercer had done.
Behind him, the others were quick to act as well.
Both Seonghwa and Hongjoong rolled away on the floor while folding their legs to slip them through their arms, bringing their hands in front of them.
Seonghwa was the first to get on his feet. He squared off against one of the Pack members and ducked under the man's arm. Keeping his own hands close to his chest since they were still cuffed together, he easily wove back and forth to dodge punch after punch.
When the man winded himself enough that his swings slowed, Seonghwa jabbed both his hands forward at once. They slammed into the man's face, breaking his nose and sending him stumbling backward, which allowed Seonghwa to crouch down and kick the man's legs out from under him.
It was only a few more seconds before he ran forward and brought his heel down against the man's, slicing it open with the blade he had hidden in the sole of his show.
Blood spurted everywhere, coating the dark carpets beneath him.
Thinking quickly, Seonghwa spun in a circle to gain some momentum and kicked the body toward a female advancing on Hongjoong, knocking her to the ground and allowing him to bend over and snap her neck.
They exchanged a quick nod before heading to their next target.
San cried out while trying to jab his elbow into Jongho's side. The two of them grappled with each other, forcing them to spin in a small circle while each tried to gain the upper hand.
"Stop fighting me!" Jongho growled, bending forward to try and bend San even further in half. "You know your life was better here."
"No. It was all a lie!" San lifted his arms up to grab Jongho's, then threw his weight forward. The younger was focusing so much on holding San that he wasn't focused on his own balance. With the sudden shift, San was able to throw Jongho over his shoulder and flat on his back.
Jongho exhaled sharply and placed a hand over his chest. His face was scrunched in pain.
San knew he had winded the fighter. He fell forward so that he was straddling Jongho's waist. It made Jongho cry out in surprise, then gasp for air.
As horrible as it was, San needed all the help he could get right now. He lunged forward to try and get at the headband hidden in Jongho's hair. If he could just get it off, maybe everything would fix itself and Jongho would be back on their side.
But Jongho moved his head out of the way and grabbed San's throat with his hand. "Nice... try..." He wheezed. Even with him still having a hard time catching his breath, Jongho still had enough strength in his hand to cut off San's airflow.
"J... Jon..." San clawed at the hand on his throat. He had to get it off... He had to get Jongho back.
Luckily he got his chance when Hongjoong rolled past them to dodge a kick from the man he was fighting.
The distraction was enough that Jongho looked away for a second. This allowed San to twist his wrist and bend forward to grab a fist full of Jongho's hair.
When he pulled back, he came away with the headband.
Jongho screamed in pain when the contact was broken, then started to shake and tremble. His eyes rolled to the back of his head.
"No. No! Jongho!" San dropped the headband and cupped Jongho's face with both hands. "Jongho!"
Foam started to dribble from the fighter's mouth. San gasped and quickly slipped off Jongho's waist so he could roll the younger onto his side.
He looked up for help and instantly knew he would get none.
Mingi was still on top of Mercer, slamming his fist repeatedly into the man's face. Blood oozed from new open wounds.
"You piece of filth!" Mingi roared.
And yet all Mercer could do was laugh. "Pathetic."
Mingi faltered, keeping a bloodied fist raised above his head. "What did you just say?"
"You're pathetic. Do you really think you can beat me? I will just got back again, and again, and again. However many times it takes! But hopefully it'll only be once, because rest assured, I will kill you the very day you are born!" Mercer's hand flew out to grab something on the desk and stabbed Mingi with it.
The thief cried out and slipped off the desk, holding his injured side. Three pens were embedded in his flesh. He stumbled back until he was leaning against the wall.
Mercer stood up and wiped a hand across his face, smearing the blood there and leaving a trail down his jaw. "How could a pathetic kid such as yourself ever dream of defeating me? The most powerful man in the world!"
Suddenly the ground shook beneath them.
Everyone was caught off balance and stumbled back and forth. Mingi gritted his teeth and hissed, pressing his hand to his wound. He knew better than to try and remove the pens, especially with how much it hurt...
"Min-!" Hongjoong started to call out, but the tremors grew stronger and he fell to the floor, only for a Pack member to start attacking him again.
He thief groaned and shook his head, then focused on Mercer once more.
And what he saw had his jaw dropping in shock.
Wooyoung was pulling out a few knives from his suit and was trying to push himself up off the floor. He had a deadly look in his eye that was fixated on Mercer.
Something about the tremors must have knocked him out of his stupor.
Mercer, on the other hand, was staring at the floor with wide eyes. Then he glanced at Mingi with pure rage. "WHAT HAVE YOU DONE?!"
Mingi sucked in a breath and prepared himself to move. He could feel the blood trickling over his fingers and each time he inhaled forced a little more out.
"EVERYONE DOWNSTAIRS NOW!" Mercer yelled as he advanced forward. Another tremor made him stumble to the side, but his eyes never left Mingi.
Pack members still in the room did their best to get on their feet. With how strong the tremors were, Mingi started to worry that something had gone wrong... From all of their calculations, it shouldn't be affecting this floor so much, not with the way Mercer had the structure built.
His thoughts instantly flashed to Yunho and Yeosang. He raised his good hand to his earpiece and pressed it twice. It was a signal worked in to alert Yeosang, asking him to check in.
"Wooyoung!" Seonghwa shouted from the other side of the room.
Everyone turned just in time to see Wooyoung running straight for Mercer. He had his arm raised with three knives tucked between his fingers, ready to rip and slice at anything in his way.
He lunged forward, but Mercer was ready for him. The man easily stepped aside and wrapped an arm around Wooyoung's waist to swing him in a circle before throwing him against the wall. Wooyoung yelped at the impact and fell to the floor.
"Useless. Just as you always have been." Mercer sneered. He walked closer to Wooyoung and started snapping his fingers.
Each one made Wooyoung flinch, forcing him closer and closer to the submission he was fighting to stay away from.
"I knew you would find your way back to me. You just can't get enough, can you? You know who your ma- AAAAHHH!" Mercer started screaming suddenly and grabbed his right wrist to bring his hand up in front of his face.
He was missing his thumb and first two fingers.
"BASTARD!" Seonghwa growled from where he was standing between his father and Wooyoung, a bloody knife in his hands. "I won't let you tough him again!"
"S-Son?" Mercer's eyes grew wide and he took a step back. "N-No. He did this to me again." He looked down and shook his head. "I have to try again. I ha-"
"No. This ends now Father." Seonghwa stepped forward and swung at him again. "I won't let you ruin any more lives. I know all about what happened in the life you tried to erase, my mother, Wooyoung, everything. It's not happening again."
"Jongho!" San's voice cut through all the chaos. There was so much happening at the same time, it was hard to keep track of. But Mingi turned to see Jongho shaking on the floor with foam in his mouth.
Hongjoong started to crawl forward, his eyes flicking back and forth between Mingi and Jongho, but he hurried forward to help out the younger. "Keep him on his side." He said to San. They both worked to keep Jongho from hurting himself and just watched as the seizure continued.
A groan came from the corner and Mingi turned to see Wooyoung tying to get back on his feet. His attention was fixed on where Seonghwa was squaring off with his father and Mingi suddenly had flashed of the last time this happened.
He couldn't lose anyone. He didn't want to see anything like that again.
But he just couldn't move...
"I don't care what they told you. You know nothing about what I've done to give you your best life." Mercer growled. "That bitch wouldn't have made a good mother. Both times I had to keep her separated from everything otherwise she would have been drinking and taking drugs the entire time she was pregnant with you. I wasn't going to let that happen to my child. I gave you everything you wanted!" Mercer stared at his bloodied hand and shook his head. "Why? Why do I keep loosing you to these people!"
"Because they taught me what true family is! All of this? This power and money and control, that's all this is. There's no love and compassion." Seonghwa turned to look at Wooyoung, and even now, the softest of looks entered his eyes. "It's something that I've realized I missed and that's why I was so happy during the few moments I would get with San. There's another life I should have been living, and I will never forgive you from stealing it from any of us."
"I- I don't believe this." Mercer shook his head. "I built all of this for you."
"I never asked for it!"
"I-"
"Seonghwa, it won't stop!" San called out. His voice cracked from the strain.
Mingi looked back and forth between all of them, then pressed his earpiece again. He needed to know what was going on.
But then his vision started to blur. His breath hitched when he tried to take a deep breath.
No... This... couldn't be happening.
"Mingi?" A voice said, but Mingi couldn't quite recognize who it was, nor did he recognize the hand on his cheek.
"Jongho, please, wake up!"
"Mingi!"
"I will fix everything! Next time I will make sure to end all of you!"
"Mingi, please!"
"Nothing will stop me now!"
The floor started to shake again.
Then collapsed.
