Wooyoung could barely keep his hands from shaking as he tried to pry open the destroyed drivers side door one more time. It was so mangled and damaged that it hardly budged.
The window had shattered so when he dropped to all fours and peered inside to check on Yunho again, he could watch as blood dripped from some unknown wound on his body.
"Yunho, please wake up." He urged.
Mingi appeared on the passenger side and started to climb into the overturned car. "Fuck."
"I can't get the door open. How do you want to do this?"
"I don't know, moving him could do so much harm but we are too exposed here..." Mingi started muttering to himself, then said, "Try to cut him loose and lower him down, I'll guide him out this way."
Wooyoung nodded and slipped a longer knife from his waist and carefully slipped it underneath Yunho's seatbelt. It only took two quick flicks of his wrist to cut the lap belt so that Yunho was only being held up by the one across his chest.
"Ok I'm ready." Mingi grunted a little as he moved forward. There was hardly any room for his long limbs, but he managed to twist himself enough to lift a hand to cradle the back of Yunho's head.
As soon as the seatbelt severed, Wooyoung slapped the knife to his chest so it would magnetize and helped catch Yunho and maneuver him out of his seat.
The car creaked with all their movement and for a moment Wooyoung was worried it would collapse on them. But Mingi was able to wiggle backward and pull Yunho with him.
Wooyoung backed out as well and surveyed the scene in front of him.
Hongjoong and Jongho were helping Mingi lift Yunho into the bed of the truck and yelling for some kind of padding or support, which caused Jongho to run around and start ripping jackets off the fallen Pack members and throwing them at Hongjoong.
Seonghwa was still standing in the back of the truck firing constant round from his rifle. Wooyoung took a moment to admire how incredible he looked like that before he sprang forward and drew several knives out to hold in between his fingers.
At first it had surprised him how easily he had picked up being able to use them, but after Mingi's story he didn't doubt himself anymore. They were a part of him he didn't realize he missed.
Wanting to cause a distraction to pull some of the pressure off Seonghwa and the others, Wooyoung sprinted around the front of the truck and snapped both wrists twice in quick succession. His knives flew through the air and impaled their targets, dropping each one to the ground.
The Pack members all dove for more cover, then turned and started firing in his direction. But Wooyoung was fast. He darted across an opening to draw their fire a little further away.
"Be careful." Yeosang warned in his ear.
"I'm always careful." Wooyoung dove from behind a car and there three more knives all while rolling toward another car.
"Show off." He could hear the amusement in Yeosang's tone and looked up at the drone overhead to flash a smirk.
"Wooyoung don't get too far away." Seonghwa said. He sounded concerned even though he had only stopped firing to reload his clip.
"Don't worry about me. Just start driving and I'll jump on the back."
"If you miss I'm leaving you behind." Hongjoong growled.
That cause Seonghwa to whip his head around and glare at the older. Before he could speak a bullet slammed into his chest and made him hold backward, although the harness kept him upright.
"No!!" Mingi and Wooyoung yelled at the same time.
Seonghwa just lifted the gun again and continued firing at a blinding speed. "I'm fine. It'll bruise later. But we need to get out of here."
Yeosang spoke to everyone at the same time when he chimed in again. "Yes you do. More cars coming from the north."
"I've got him secured as best I can." Mingi called out. "Drive Joong!"
Tires squealed against the pavement and the smell of burning rubber filled the air. Hongjoong let the truck stall there for several seconds, filling the air with the awful smelling smoke before releasing the breaks and rocketing forward with a roar.
Wooyoung took a sharp breath and ran straight ahead. He was a little in front of the truck so he watched as it sped toward him. Any normal person would have been terrified of being run over, but Wooyoung's eyes locked onto the only thing he needed.
Seonghwa had deposited his gun and was using the harness to lean over the side of the truck bed. He held on with one hand and extended the other out for Wooyoung to grab.
He grabbed the younger right as the truck whooshed by, both of the grabbing each other's forearms, and spun smoothly to face the back when the momentum sent Wooyoung flying off his feet.
They both worked to pull Wooyoung to safety, then Seonghwa crushed Wooyoung to his chest. "Crazy fool." He muttered into Wooyoung's hair.
All the younger could do was smile and squeeze back. His heart was still pounding with adrenaline and it didn't feel like it would stop any time soon.
Hongjoong had shielded them with his tire trick, so now all they had to do was lose any of the cars coming for them.
A drone dropped down in front of the windshield for him to follow and Yeosang's voice guided them over the ear piece through the city.
Seonghwa and Wooyoung lowered themselves down so they could sit, which Seonghwa ended up pulling Wooyoung into his lap to hold onto him tightly since he didn't have a harness.
Next to them, Mingi was watching Yunho closely. He constantly pressed his fingers to the driver's neck to check for a pulse.
"How's San?" He asked, not looking away from Yunho.
"The same." Jongho answered.
At those words, the engine roared a little more, signifying Hongjoong trying to speed up.
Yeosang had them weave through the city, taking a very indirect route back to Hongjoong's shop and the garage where he kept his cars.
When they got there, the hacker was already waiting to help.
"Get them downstairs. I have a medical room, room 11." Hongjoong said.
Mingi, Hongjoong, and Jongho took Yunho while the others carefully lifted San out of the cab.
Everyone had to shuffle awkwardly down the hall, but they managed to arrive in one piece.
Seonghwa and Yeosang took over, assigning everyone a task.
Working as one can they cut off the shirts and pants of both San and Yunho. The older's was a little harder, they had to slowly peel it away from some spots where it had fused to the skin around a wound.
Yunho was in far worse shape...
He had several pieces of shrapnel in his right shoulder, some in his chest, and a large piece embedded deep in his left thigh.
San had a few cuts but was mainly covered in large bruises from where he had been impacted by the airbag.
Yeosang used his nimble fingers to examine San's chest, pressing entry on and around the bruising. "I can't tell without actually scanning him, but I think he's at least bruised some ribs."
"We are going to need to scan both of them." Seonghwa muttered. He was inspecting all the metal in Yunho's body. "And he's going to need a lot of surgery. I don't want to risk just pulling these out, especially the one in his leg."
"Well we are already in the right area. I've got sterilizing stuff and all the equipment needed." Hongjoong walked over to another door and pressed a button. It slide to the side and revealed a room full of Medicare equipment.
"Wow..." Yeosang breathed.
The older shrugged and stepped inside. "I like to be prepared. I never knew when this place might end up being sealed away to protect myself. I've got years of provisions stored away too.
If he had more time, Wooyoung would have been impressed and wanted to see everything, but they had two lives that needed to be saved.
"What do you need me to do?" Wooyoung looked at Seonghwa. He listened as the older started list off all the tools and supplies he needed, then he told everyone to wash their hands thoroughly and use whatever disinfectant that Hongjoong had.
Everything happened so fast.
Yeosang and Jongho focused on San. The hacker used a handheld scanner to take a full reading on his body, confirming that San had three broken ribs and had bruised two others. It wasn't anything he needed surgery on, all he could do was make sure he was bandaged up enough so that they would heal properly.
But since they were there, he decided to go ahead with his idea for the chip. He had picked up on the readings of the Pack trying to take over again, and if San were to regain consciousness now it would be disastrous.
Meanwhile Wooyoung and Seonghwa worked diligently on Yunho, with the occasional assistance from Hongjoong and Mingi.
They pulled out the shrapnel in his arm and bandaged up what they could. A few of gashes needed to be sewn shut, which Seonghwa did with a slow and expert hand.
The one in his leg posed the biggest problem. Seonghwa stared at it for a long moment and cringed. "Alright, I need you guys to be ready to try and stop the bleeding. I'm going to get a tourniquet on him to help, but I'm afraid this could have hit the Femoral artery. If that's the case... He's in for a long recovery." Seonghwa's voice was solemn and he looked like this was the last place he'd like to be. But he still nodded to the others.
Wooyoung picked up a towel soaked in alcohol and moved to stand next to Seonghwa. The older gave him a quick glanced and turned his head to kiss the side of Wooyoung's head, then looked to Mingi. "Ready?"
"Ready." Mingi confirmed.
Seonghwa swallowed and gripped the large metal chunk and started to slowly pull it out of Yunho's thigh. Blood started to ooze around it and there was a few squelching sounds when he moved it back and forth.
Even unconscious, Yunho let out a few whimpers and his body trembled from the stress.
"Watch his levels." Seonghwa muttered through gritted teeth. "I think it's almost out." He moved it back and forth a couple more times, then gave one final yank.
Blood splurged out of the gash and Wooyoung was quick to place his towel over it and pressed down. After Seonghwa set down the hunk of metal, he grabbed his needle and medical thread and started making quick work of the open wound. He kept muttering that he was no doctor and he wasn't sure what else could be done right now.
"Don't worry, I'll make some calls, just get him stable." Hongjoong whispered.
Seonghwa exhaled sharply through his nose and kept going.
Wooyoung leaned over just slightly so that he made contact with Seonghwa to show some support.
They stayed in the medical room for a few more hours making sure that both San and Yunho were stable and going to be ok.
Yeosang had somehow managed to get the implant done like he had wanted. He had a computer set up next to him that Jongho had been pulling up information on for him. Once done, he came to check on what Seonghwa had done too.
"This will do for now, I think." The hacker said, focusing on Yunho's leg. "But we should keep him under until we know his body is going to take to this ok. You said you have some contacts?" He asked, turning to Hongjoong.
"Yeah, I'll start reaching out to them." Hongjoong glanced up at Mingi once before leaving the room.
Once he was gone, Mingi sagged against the wall and ran his hand over his face. Then he let himself slide to the floor. "What have I done?"
"This wasn't your fault." Yeosang said gently.
"We could have lost them today!" Mingi shouted, pounding both fists against his knees. "LOOK AT THEM!"
Yeosang flinched and looked away but otherwise didn't move.
"Any one of you could have died today and it would have been all my fault!"
"What makes you think that?" Wooyoung asked, stepping forward to stand in front of Mingi. "You think they didn't know the risk? We all know what working with you means!" Mingi opened his mouth to protest again. "No! I don't want to hear it! I won't let you throw yourself a pity party. Not now. I'll tell you this right now, I'd rather die out there fighting those bastards that return to the life I had before, and I know San would feel the same. I don't know Yunho yet, but if he's here he has to feel the same."
Mingi stared up at him with watery eyes and fisted his hair. "I'm supposed to protect you..."
"Mingi. We protect each other." Yeosang said. "We are one team now. We may not have the teamwork part down pat, but from what I saw today, we all worked together perfectly. The Pack got the best of us today, but we are going to come back stronger."
The thief bowed his head and nodded slowly. "I just want them to be ok." He whispered.
"And they will be." Wooyoung crouched down and placed his hand on Mingi's knee. "Don't give up on us yet. I'm not done fighting yet." He glanced up at Seonghwa and received a nod.
"They are stable, Mingi." The older whispered.
Mingi whimpered and started to sob. He didn't look at any of them and kept tugging at his hair. "I wish all of this had never happened."
