The King and Queen

Flame-lit torches flickered merrily across the stone carved walls of the corridor, as you were marched through the golden wood doors, and into the space beyond. To be honest, you didn't feel very merry yourself, although you had to admit, the inside of the temple was just as grand and beautiful as the outside. The new corridor behind the doors, was just like the pervious hallway, only it was a mixture of carved stone, marble, and not to mention many precious gems and metals, which made up many of the artistic carvings on the walls.

The King and Queen of the Anthros were clearly wealthy, which made sense considering they were royal. The fact that they had an entire huge temple to themselves, made it clear that they were very important.

Anthros... Thats what these creatures are called... An Anthro. You thought to yourself. The word still felt a bit strange. The fact that the name belonged to a whole different race. A whole different civilization that wasn't human. It felt almost alien. To be fair, it really only supported your theory that this was not Earth. Or... at least the Earth your familiar with.

"Ouch! H-Hey!" You cried as you suddenly felt something sharp prod into your back, leaving a small hole in your shirt, but not piercing the skin underneath.

"Hey! Did I tell you to stop moving? Keep walking!" Ordered the Fox Anthro behind you. It was only then did you realized that you had stopped walking, before you suddenly felt yourself being yanked forwards.

Oh... right... I almost forgot I had these stupid chains attached to me. You thought. You had been so busy admiring your surroundings and lost in thought, that for a brief second, you had forgotten you were captive.

"Oh! U-Um. Sorry!" You said quickly, not wanting to create any more problems, in case you accidently said something stupid. You weren't exactly good with nervous pressure. Especially when that 'pressure' was a female humanoid fox that was almost twice your size, in full combat metal armor, wielding a sharp spear that was currently pointed at your back. One wrong word, and you didn't doubt that she would be more than happy to turn you into a delicious Human kabab.

The best thing you could do was cooperate.

Reluctantly, you continued walking, letting yourself be escorted through the hallway, leading further into the temple. The Fox muttered something in satisfaction when you cooperated, and began walking, while her huge guard companion ahead, that was the one holding your chains, only growled something about previous misbehaving prisoners, but you couldn't quite hear anything else besides that.

As your group continued walking, the already large hallway began becoming wider, with large open pillars lining between the center and sides of the corridor. The pillars glimmered and shone in the bright torchlight, which made them look like they were made from solid gold, which they probably were.

There were also many paintings and tapestries lining the walls, but you didn't have time to stop and have a better look. The constant clomping of metal boots ensured you that the two Anthro guards were still there.

There were also plenty of other guards stationed in various places along the walls. They didn't say anything, but you could tell they were eying the escort group. You in particular.

Abruptly, the pillar and art filled hallway ended, with a huge room beyond. You guessed this must have been the room you had sensed from the other end of the hallway, when you had been handed over to these guards that had been waiting at the door.

The guards didn't waste a second, and marched in. The inside of the room was cavernous. Only then was it apparent, that this was no ordinary room... This was more of a chamber than a room.

The chamber was huge, with what looked like more solid gold pillars stretching all the way up to the celling, where a huge Roman style mosaic glimmered. The entire room was very well lit-up, with bright torches and a few lit fires in carved stone bowls, around the edges of the room. However, what really grabbed your eye, was the huge skylight beaming down from the middle of the mosaic, into the room.

It must lead to the outside, at the very top of the temple... You thought before you looked down to the far end of the room and gasped. The tension and fear once more returning to your body.

You hadn't noticed before, but there were a number of other guards in the room, and all of them were kneeling, with their weapons lowered and heads bowed. It was only now did you suddenly remember why you had been brought here.

Looking up at the far end of the room, were two very large thrones. Upon first glance, they looked identical, but looking closer, you could see that the one on the right, had particular golden and marble patterns on the arm and base of it, which the one on the left didn't have. It was this that you also immediately noticed that these two thrones were occupied.

Sitting upon them were two Anthros. Only these were definitely not guards.

The King and Queen themselves...

The first Anthro that got your eye, was the one sitting on the throne on your right. The only reason they had got your eye first, was because of how beautiful they were. They had shimmering galaxy and nebular colored scales, which covered their entire body, from tail to snout. It was a Dragon. You had seen other Anthro Dragons while being escorted through the city to the temple, but none had looked as eye-capturing as this one. As you approached with the guards, she looked down at you, but not in a judging way. She looked curious, but in a friendly way. She even smiled, which made you feel a bit reassured. There was also something in her eyes, that suggested that she didn't seem like she wanted to hurt you... at least you hoped.

Her clothes also matched her scales, with many pretty shades of blue and purple, along with many golden accessories and jewelry, which was probably one of the reasons why she looked so eye-capturing.

That must be the Queen! But if that's the Queen... Then the King must be... You turned your eyes towards the throne on the left and met with a Dragon that instantly made you feel worse.

Unlike his wife, the King did not exactly have a friendly calming aura. Instead, it made your blood run cold. It was really more the fact the way he was looking at you. Staring down at you, from high up on his throne. His scales were blood red, with yellow eyes, and with small hints of his sharp teeth poking neatly through his closed mouth. He, like his wife, were huge. They both towered twice the size of you. If they were to stand next to you, you would probably only come up to their stomachs. Next to the King, lay a huge metal and gold weapon of some sort, but you couldn't see quite what it was, due to most of it being hidden behind the throne.

It was impossible to tell what the King was thinking when he saw you enter the room. All you hoped was that if you were going to speak to the King and Queen, they wouldn't just kill you.

So, the King and Queen are both Dragons... That makes sense... but what exactly are they going to... You nearly stumbled when you looked over past the thrones and saw something... or someone poking their heads around the side of one of the pillars behind the thrones... Looking... at you? The moment you looked over though, they vanished from sight. Just like that.

You shook your head, thinking it was your imagination.

You stopped suddenly, as your guards stopped walking, before they stood aside, with you in the middle. You were a few meters from the thrones. Your guards were standing either side of you, before they lowered their weapons, and bowed deeply, before standing up again. The huge guard pushed you roughly closer towards the two thrones, with the King and Queen on them, before hissing in your ear.

"Kneel Human..."

Trembling, you kneeled, as you bowed your head, copying the others that had been doing it previously.

"Your Majesties, we present to you... The Human. The first one said to be seen in centuries." Announced the Fox, her tail swishing slightly, as she held her spear, standing to attention.

"Well, well, well... A Human, in the flesh and blood after all this time. Remarkable..." Murmured the King, as his eyes wondered over you, still kneeling.

A few seconds past. You could basically feel the tension.

"Rise Human, you may stop kneeling." The King snapped suddenly, and you obliged, not wanting to create a scene. You stood, still shaking a bit. Your heart was beating rather quickly.

"Calm down, Lorsol, dear, look at them... the poor thing must be very nervous, and not to mention very confused. Please, let me handle this." She said, as her mate growled to himself, but obliged. The Queen rolled her eyes, before turning to you.

"For starters, Human, what is your name?" She questioned, tilting her head.

"Y-Y/N." You stuttered, before adding a quick 'Your Majesty' at the end.

"Alright... Where exactly did you come from? A Human has not been sighted in these lands for hundreds of years, and you don't look that old either."

"O-Oh... um, nowhere in particular. I-I, um, I mean, I woke up and was found in the jungle, before I-I was captured, and brought to this city. I-I'm not sure exactly where I am." You said truthfully. You didn't want to risk lying, as you didn't want to get on bad terms with the King or Queen. Or both.

The Queen looked thoughtful for a second, thinking to herself before answering.

"Well... where do I start? You are currently in the Kingdom of Elgon. One of the most powerful Anthro Kingdoms in these lands. I am Queen Rheya, and my husband next to me here, is King Lorsol. We are the rulers of this vast Kingdom which you have stumbled upon."

"And it is Luckly you did too. Let's just say that other Kingdoms weren't as Kind to Humans as we were." King Lorsol added.

Lucky!? What do you mean lucky? I was imprisoned, interrogated, dragged across the city in chains to your royal temple, constantly fearing for my life!

You thought, but you didn't say this out loud. Instead, you asked something that had been nagging you.

"W-Well, your majesty, I thank you that you did not immediately order to have me killed when you first heard about me, but I do have a question... what exactly did happen to all the Humans?"

Queen Rheya and King Lorsol looked at each other. The Queen looked at you, eyeing you over, before saying something that you had expected, but still filled you with despair having heard it in simple plain English from the Queen herself.

It confirmed what you had guessed and heard from other Anthros, but was still worrying to hear.

"The other Humans are dead. You are the last one."
