Chapter 07

Another World

Devina's POV

Calculus, geometry, trigonometry, worst levels of mathematics. But, when I was a kid my mom had always taught me that the beginning of those levels is down to Algebra. Just like in the subject of Accounting, when you know the principles of it, afterward it'll just be a piece of cake. So stop worrying about those three levels of mathematics, try to understand Algebra and you'll be on your way to the top.

"The third year is just a piece of cake, Devy." I rolled my eyes.

"Mom, trigonometry? That's insane." I exclaimed.

She shook her head and kissed me on my cheek. "Trigonometry is easy, Devy. Stop complaining or else I'll confiscate your phone."

I didn't have any more choice but to agree with mom.

I went to school to look for my schedule. I saw Jason hanging out with his friends with a girl on his right side.

Poor kid

I mentally said. On my way to the gym, I bumped into Betty squealing beside her locker. She's wearing a denim jumper with her black floral off-shoulder.

"Hey, Devy!"

"Yes, Betty?" My locker is on the same side as hers.

"Can't believe that we're already in the third year! I can't believe that we're on our way to senior prom!"

Next year we would be able to join the senior prom. At this time of ours, we can only join several clubs wherein the seniors are also joining.

"Do you think that someone will ask me on a date?" I took it as a joke but she took it on a different level.

She grins and nodded at me. "Of course! You're so pretty Devy, every guy in this school bows to you."

I cannot believe her!

"That was a joke." I closed my locker and shove my books inside my bag.

We both went to the gym.

Luckily, we bumped into Jason—still, the girl is beside him. "Guys! I saw our schedule already, as usual." Betty giggled and ran towards the schedule.

As usual, we're still classmates. I look down at the girl at his side and gave her a small smile. She waves at me and I nodded my head at her.

"I'll leave you two alone, I'll just get my bag at the bench." Jason left Melody with me.

She's not very tall though, her small curly waves at the end of her black hair made her pretty cute. She's wearing a gray sweater along with tight jeans.

"How old are you, Melody?" I asked without hesitation.

"Y-you know me?" No... obviously you, duh.

"Oh yeah, Jason mentioned your name to us." I wiggled my eyebrows.

"O-oh, haha uhm I'm fourteen." She smiled awkwardly.

I walked closer to her to close a small gap between us. "Jason is my friend, like since we were kids. I want to warn you about his attitude, he never takes girls seriously Melody. So, keep your distance if you want to keep your V." I made a V sign with my hand.

"Devy, where's Jason?" Betty came at the right time. I turn around to look at Betty.

"Yes, girls?" About time.

"Let's go, we're going to be late." Betty clung into Jason's arms.

"Oh, Melody, I'll—"

"Oh no! I'm okay Jason, uhm I'll get going. Nice to meet you guys." Then she walked away immediately.

Jason looked at me and slowly glared at me. "Not again, Devy." I gave him a sigh.

"She's too young, Jason. Keep the distance." Betty pushed Jason away a little bit and gave him a disgusted look.

"Omg, you're hitting young girls? I thought you liked older women?" Jason was about to open his mouth but chose to close it.

"Let's go." He gestured us to the exit of the gym. We both laughed at Jason and headed to our classroom.

There are different faces from last year that made it more exciting. Betty and I sat in front while Jason sat at the back part. Because his friends are over there. The bell rang as soon as the last student entered the classroom.

"Good morning, third year." Our teacher came in holding a bunch of books.

"So, I know all of you know that your first period is Mathematics." Everyone groaned inside the classroom including me.

Mr. Bob chuckled. "Oh don't give me that attitude, I'll make sure that everyone understands this subject. Or else all of you won't graduate high school." He started the lesson by giving small problems that could be answered logically.

After a long period of boredom, the bell finally rang.

"Alright class, you may go to your next subject." Mr. Bob picked his books.

"Mr. Bob, do we have homework?"

"No!" Everyone answered inside the classroom.

Mr. Bob chuckled and shook his head. "No homework for today." I raised my arms in the air and mentally shouted.

We went to our next class until we ended up in the field.

"What club are you going to sign in to Betty?" Jason asked as we headed to the cheerleader's table.

"Here!" She pointed at where we're going.

"Hey, guys!" Jason greeted the girls.

"Hi, Jason!" They greeted back.

"Are you going to sign up for cheerleading?" Melissa asked while banging her eyelids.

Jason chuckled. "Of course not, my friend Betty is."

The smile from Melissa's face faded as she looked at Betty.

"Oh, my pretty poisons don't like girls who always squeals around. Life is not full of sunshine, honey." She answered.

Melissa's pretty poisons laughed at what she just said. I shook my head and wrapped an arm around Betty, taking her away from the table.

"Come on, let's just join another club." I patted Betty's shoulders and roam around.

We left Jason with the girls as I and Betty took off.

"Stop frowning Betty, we can join any club." She gave me a close mouth smile and nodded her head.

Betty and I decided to join the Blue and Pink Journal Club. We've become journalists when we were still freshmen but we became inactive for a while because newspapers weren't becoming a thing anymore.

"Is the Blue and Pink still open?" Betty hoped as she eyed the journal table.

I offered her my hand. "Come on, we're still the pioneer ones you know."

She smiled and took my hand. We went towards the journal table. The young journalists hurriedly welcomed us.

"Omg! Ms. Bliss and Ms. Lodge! Are you going to sign for this year?" Toni, the newest president of the journal club asked.

"Apparently, yep," Betty answered.

The other journalists were thrilled and gave us some forms to fill. I missed writing and scooping thriller stories on our campus.

"We can do another office reshuffle if you'd like," Toni suggested after we finished filling out the forms.

"Reshuffle? Why so?" My forehead creased.

"Well, both of you are the first officers of this club. Maybe you just wanted to get your positions back."

I chuckled and shook my head. "Toni, you've been running this club for two years. We don't need a reshuffle."

"I agree," Betty raised a finger.

Other journalists laughed and agreed with me.

Other new students have joined the journal club. After filling out the spots we cleaned our booth and headed to the journal room.

"A lot of things have changed.." Toni trailed off.

The room was completely different after we left it. There are fewer designs, it's a bit dark inside and somewhat dusty too.

"So, does everyone want a clean-up today?" I wiggled my eyebrows and winked.

Toni and Betty were in charge of cleaning the shelves, wiping the floor, and replacing the old curtains. While I and the other journalists are in charge of moving the tables and painting the whole new room.

We're starting a fresh start. We took almost until dismissal time. The principal decided that the first day of school would be focused on taking extracurricular activities. So there were no more classes after Mr. Bob.

"Well, congrats journalists. We just reformed our room." Betty placed both her hands on her hips while scanning the whole room.

"Thank you for rejoining our club," Toni said as she clasped her hands.

"Alright, we'll be taking off now." I took my bag and hung it over to my shoulder.

A lot of journalists did the same and bid goodbye to Toni and other journalists. Betty and I headed to the parking lot. Betty's nice to drop me off at my home but most of the time I take the bus.

"This day is awesome," Betty looked up and sighed.

"Is it?" I raised a brow.

"Yeah, you know how I wanted to be a pretty poison but I guess Melissa's attitude won't really change." She shrugged.

I chuckled and we both continued to walk towards the parking lot. Jason probably took off or went to chase Melody her young, precious, little girl.

Our friendship started when we became freshmen. It was originally me and Betty because we were seatmates. Jason was a bit unexpected. We saw him crying in the girls' bathroom because he almost failed his subject. Betty and I thought of lending him a hand.

"Goodnight, Devy!" Betty waved her hand in the air before running off.

A small smile crept on my lips as I wave back.

I feel happy, I felt okay.

This is probably, one of my best days.
