1 02: second chance at first line
The episode picks up several minutes after the previous episode left off. Scott is leaning with his back against his locker, only half-dressed in his lacrosse practice gear, staring at nothing with a dazed expression on his face as he processes the fact that Allison's father, Chris Argent, is one of the Hunters who attacked him and Derek during the full moon over the weekend. Stiles, having just finished getting ready for practice, is walking across the room when he sees Scott and stops to talk to him.
STILES: Did you apologize to Allison?
Scott, still in shock, nods weakly
SCOTT: [dazed] Yeah.
Stiles isn't satisfied by this short answer and looks at him with a slightly exasperated expression
STILES: Is she giving you a second chance, or...?
Still dazed, Scott nods again
SCOTT: Yeah.
Stiles is excited on Scott's behalf at this news and tries to encourage Scott to feel the same
STILES: Yeah? All right! So, everything's good?
Scott shakes his head weakly
SCOTT: No.
Stiles frowns in confusion
This causes many to laugh but some cast worried glances.
STILES: No...?
Scott starts to come out of his overwhelmed haze and tries to explain what he learned, still unable to make eye contact with Stiles
SCOTT: Remember... the Hunters? Her dad is one of 'em.
Stiles gapes at Scott in shock
STILES: Her dad--?
Scott ignores Stiles' words and continues to speak
SCOTT: --shot me--
Stiles cuts Scott off to ask for clarification
STILES: Allison's father--?
Scott continues to ignore Stiles' interruptions and finishes his sentence
SCOTT: --with a crossbow.
Stiles, flabbergasted by this news, repeats himself dramatically now that Scott has finally stopped speaking
STILES: Allison's father?
Scott, now officially snapped out of his daze by this conversation, yelps at Stiles impatiently
SCOTT: Yes! Her father!
Seeing that Stiles is just as shocked as he is, Scott begins to actively panic again
SCOTT: Oh, my God--
Stiles wastes no time trying to get Scott to stop freaking out by comforting him
STILES: No, Scott. Snap back!
After a moment, Scott finally snaps out of it and looks Stiles in the eyes, though he's still frowning with concern
STILES: You okay?
Scott nods, and Stiles sighs in relief
STILES: Hey, all right? He didn't recognize you, right?
Scott thinks for a moment before slowly responding
SCOTT: No... N-no, I don't think so...
Stiles nods patiently and continues
STILES: Does she know about him?
Scott's eyes widen when he realizes he has no idea if Allison knows about her family's status as Werewolf Hunters and begins to panic again
"Oh no" Lily signs worried for her daughter and this boy.
SCOTT: Oh, yeah, I don't know! What if she does? This is gonna kill me, man--
Stiles forces Scott to look at him and speaks to him in a reassuring voice as he cuts off his trail of thought
STILES: Okay, just focus on lacrosse. Okay?
Stiles picks up the rest of his lacrosse gear and thrusts it into Scott's hands
STILES: Here, Scott. Take this. Take this, and focus on lacrosse for now, okay? That's all you gotta do, yeah?
Scott takes a deep breath and reluctantly nods in agreement
SCOTT: Lacrosse.
Stiles nods in encouragement and firmly pats Scott on the sides of his arms with his hands as he punctuates his next words
STILES: Here. We. Go!
Scott and Stiles turn to leave the locker room, with Stiles accidentally tripping on his own feet and nearly falling to the floor in the process
Sirius barks out a laugh as many chuckle a bit more subtlety
Scott and Stiles arrive to the lacrosse field just as Coach Finstock has begun announcing their first task
COACH: Let's go! One-on-one from up top!
Coach turns to look at Jackson, who is running onto the field
COACH: Jackson-- take a long stick today.
Jackson nods and drops the stick he was holding in favor of the longer one that Coach instructed him to take before running back onto the field
COACH: Atta boy!
Jackson takes his place on the field, and when Coach blows his whistle, he scoops up a ball and the team starts the play. The players run around the field, passing the ball to each other and shoulder-checking their opponents as they try to score a goal, with Coach watching with a focused expression as he follows their movements from the sidelines
COACH: That's how you do it, Jackson! That's how you do it!
Jackson hits one of the players in the back with the blunt end of his stick so he can steal the ball. Coach shoots an annoyed look at one of the other players, #31
"He's a twat bus he's good"
"HARRY POTTER, LANGUAGE!"
COACH: Greenberg, take a lap!
Greenberg sets off to run around the field as Coach turns his attention to the lined-up players ready to start their round of one-on-ones. Scott is at the front of the line and gets prepared to start
COACH: Let's go! Faster, Greenberg! Let's go.
Scott, looking distracted, is brought back to reality when Coach shouts at him
COACH: McCall, what are you waiting for? Let's go!
Coach points at Jackson, who is waiting for him with his long stick in hand, ready to show him up. However, when Scott clenches his jaw and runs toward him, he's easily tackled by the larger young man and is tossed flat on his back onto the grassy field. Coach wastes no time in starting to mock him as Scott grimaces, both in pain and in embarrassment
Many wince
COACH: Hey, McCall!
Over at the line, Stiles winces sympathetically at Scott's bad play, especially once he sees Coach walking over to where Scott is still laying on the ground
COACH: Hey, McCall!
Scott lifts his head to see Jackson smirking above him, looking very satisfied by his successful tackle
JACKSON: You sure you still want to be first line, McCall?
Coach finally makes it over to Scott just as Jackson walks away, and Scott quickly jumps to his feet, fixing his gloves and pads as Coach begins berating him for his poor performance
COACH: [stammering] My-my grandmother can move faster than that-- and she's dead! You think you can move faster than the lifeless corpse of my dead grandmother?
Scott's anger and frustration have him doubled over, which begins to worry Stiles, who continues to watch from mid-field. Scott clenches his jaw as he responds in a tight voice to Coach Finstock
SCOTT: Yes, Coach.
Coach, still trying to goad Scott into a more competitive mindset, continues to mock him
COACH: I can't hear you!
Fortunately for Scott, he is not looking Coach in the eyes, because his irises flash gold as Scott grits his teeth and repeats himself in an irritated tone of voice
SCOTT: Yes. Coach.
Coach, also irritated, moves so his mouth is just inches from Scott's right ear as he mutters his orders
COACH: Then do it again!
Scott clenches his jaw again as he sighs and runs back to position while Coach shouts mockingly toward the rest of the players
COACH: McCall's gonna do it again! McCall's gonna do it again!
Jackson gets back to his position in mid-field as Scott returns to the front of the line-up for one-on-ones; though his eyes are no longer glowing gold, he still looks angry yet determined. After a moment, Coach blows his whistle to have them start
COACH: Let's go!
Scott runs full-speed at Jackson, gripping his lacrosse stick hard as he collides with Jackson, his right shoulder hitting Jackson right in the collarbone on the same side. Jackson falls backwards, landing flat on his back in the grass just as Scott had just gone earlier, and clutches his right shoulder in pain
Stiles, panicked, runs over to Scott to check on him while everyone else is distracted by Jackson. Scott's fangs have come out, and his eyes are glowing bright gold again as he desperately tries to keep himself from fully turning
STILES: Scott? Scott, you okay?
Stiles throws his right arm around Scott's shoulders and uses his left hand to clutch Scott's left arm. Meanwhile, the rest of the players have rushed to check on Jackson, but Coach, kneeling next to the injured player, holds out his hands to instruct them to back up and give Jackson space
COACH: Yeah, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa!
Off to the side, Scott, panting heavily, whispers to Stiles in a panicked tone of voice
SCOTT: I can't control it, Stiles! It's happening!
Stiles eyes widen in alarm when he realizes that Scott's in the middle of a transformation into his Werewolf form and yelps quietly
STILES: What? Right here? Now?
Stiles looks around, sees that everyone else is distracted by Jackson's injuries, and grabs Scott by the shoulders
This causes Remus to become confused, because he never has the ability to turn unless its a full moon.
STILES: Come on, get up.
Stiles pulls Scott to his feet and, still keeping an arm around Scott's shoulders, drags him back to the locker room
STILES: Come on. Come on.
Scott and Stiles pass the bleachers, but are too preoccupied with Scott's current dilemma to notice that Derek is standing behind the stands and off to the side, watching them with a focused expression
"I wish he was younger"
"Ginny you literally have a boyfriend" Harry says while pointing at himself.
"I know but look at him, at this rate i would even leave you for your sister"
This causes Harry to gasp dramatically.
Scott and Stiles have finally made it to the locker room, where Stiles pushes him through the door
STILES: Come on, here we go.
Scott falls to his knees next to one of the sinks, and Stiles follows him
STILES: Sit down. You okay?
Stiles moves to crouch down in front of Scott to look him in the eyes
STILES: Scott, you okay?
Scott, now completely overwhelmed, finally looks up and screams at the top of his lungs in a desperate panic, his eyes bright gold
SCOTT: GET AWAY FROM ME!
The shock from Scott's roaring voice causes Stiles to fall back onto his heels, and he eventually is forced to crawl backwards away from Scott as the Werewolf starts stalking him. Stiles manages to get to his feet and flings himself back behind a row of lockers, only for Scott to easily leap on top of them in a single bound
Scott looks down at Stiles from the top of the lockers, and his vision is tinted red from the rage that triggered his transformation in the first place. He visually tracks Stiles as the young human man once again falls back onto his butt and is quickly forced to push himself back up onto his feet as he turns the corner, not taking his eyes off of Scott as the Werewolf crawls to the end of the row of lockers
He then pulls himself up onto the heating vents up around the top of the ceiling and uses them to crawl around and track Stiles, who has circled around the locker room and has just made it back to the entrance, where he bumps into the fire extinguisher as he flails around desperately. He finally gets an idea and grabs the fire extinguisher, waiting until Scott has jumped back down onto the floor before spraying it at him. This surprises and disorients Scott, who covers his face with his hands to try to avoid the spray. Once Stiles stops, he takes cover just outside the door to the locker room and waits to see what happens next, clutching the fire extinguisher tightly and preparing himself to possibly have to do it again
Many watch the screen in worry for Stiles.
Inside the locker room, Scott, dazed from the rush of what has just happened, sits down on one of the benches and slowly pulls off his helmet before calling out in a quiet voice
SCOTT: Stiles...?
Stiles relaxes somewhat but wills himself not to run in until he knows what he's getting himself into. He slowly peeks his head around the door frame and sees Scott, covered in sweat and squinting at him on the bench
Breaths of relief are heard
SCOTT: [weakly] What happened?
Stiles, still panting for breath from the exertion of being chased around by Scott just moments ago, sighs deeply as he comes out from behind the door and walks inside. He looks at Scott with an exhausted and exasperated expression as he drops the fire extinguisher on the ground with a loud clattering sound and starts to take off his gloves, which he forcefully throws onto the floor to emphasize his seriousness about the situation
STILES: You tried to kill me.
Scott sighs and looks guilty as Stiles walks over to him and crouches in front of him so he can look him in the eyes. His expression is grim as he reminds Scott of what he had researched last weekend
STILES: It's like I told you before-- it's the anger, it's your pulse rising. It's a trigger.
Scott huffs a quiet, exhausted laugh
SCOTT: But that's lacrosse. It's a pretty violent game, if you hadn't noticed...
Stiles' voice is firm when he responds to make it clear to Scott that this is a problem they need to deal with and take seriously
STILES: Well, it's gonna be a lot more violent if you end up killing someone on the field.
Stiles sighs deeply and looks Scott in the eyes
STILES: You can't play Saturday. You're gonna have to get out of the game.
Scott immediately tries to protest against this, but Stiles cuts him off
SCOTT: I'm first line--
STILES: Not anymore.
Many become saddened for the boy as he did not ask for any of this.
Night has fallen, and Scott has just returned home to his bedroom. He drops his backpack onto the floor in the corner and belly-flops sideways onto his bed without changing his clothes. After a moment, his mother, Melissa, knocks on his door and quickly comes in without waiting for an answer. She's wearing her nurse's scrubs and talks to Scott without really paying attention to him
MELISSA: Hey-- late shift again for me. But, I am taking Saturday off to see your first game!
Scott, clearly still unhappy about the fact that he can't play, especially since he can't really tell anyone why that is, wastes no time trying to argue with her in a grumpy voice
SCOTT: No, Mom, you can't--
Melissa scoffs at the fact that Scott thinks he can tell her what to do
MELISSA: Oh, no, I can and will.
She walks toward him as he dramatically drops his head back onto the bed with a slight bounce
"MILF"
MELISSA: Come on, one shift isn't gonna break us...
Melissa thinks about it for a moment before frowning at the thought of the hours she'll be missing out on at work and looks away from him
MELISSA: ...Not completely...
Melissa looks back at her son and frowns in concern
MELISSA: Hey, what's with your eyes?
Alarmed, Scott raises himself up onto his elbows, afraid that his irises may be glowing gold, but that's not what Melissa is talking about
MELISSA: You look like you haven't slept in days.
Trying to hide his relief that she's still in the dark about his transformation into a Werewolf, Scott quickly lies to cover up his secret
SCOTT: Oh, uh, it's nothing. I'm just... stressed...
Melissa, not totally convinced, continues to question him
MELISSA: Just stress? Nothing else?
SCOTT: Homework...
MELISSA: I mean, it's not like you're on drugs or anything, right?
Melissa laughs awkwardly, but Scott's expression is that of confusion
SCOTT: ...Right now?
Melissa isn't satisfied with this answer and scoffs loudly before she starts questioning him even harder
MELISSA: Right now? I'm sorry, what do you mean, "right now?" Have you ever taken drugs?
Scott, too tired to have this argument, keeps his expression blank aside from raising an eyebrow at her
SCOTT: Have you?
Melissa gapes at him in irritation and exasperation for a long moment before finally just clicking her tongue, sighing, and walking to the door
Many laugh at the interaction happy that Scott is feeing slightly better.
MELISSA: Get some sleep.
She gives him one last look and then leaves to go to work. Once she's gone, Scott groans and flops his head back down onto the bed until the sound of his computer's video-chat application ringing in the background gets his attention
As Scott sits down at his desk, Stiles can be seen on the screen turning around and shooting at the monitor with a plastic toy gun that shoots red light. Too exhausted to want to play games, Scott gets to the point of the call
SCOTT: What'd you find out?
STILES: Well, it's bad. Jackson's got a separated shoulder.
Scott immediately starts to feel guilty
SCOTT: Because of me?
Stiles scoffs on-screen as though Scott is being ridiculous
STILES: Because he's a tool.
SCOTT: But, is he gonna play?
STILES: Well, they don't know yet. Now, they're just counting on you for Saturday.
Scott sighs deeply, conflicted on what to do-- he wants to be the star lacrosse player he's dreamed of being but also doesn't want to risk hurting anyone. On screen, Stiles leans forward as though he's trying to get a closer look at something on Scott's screen, causing Scott to frown
SCOTT: What?
On screen, Stiles' eyes widen in fear and alarm; however, the computer connection starts to get glitchy and the screen freezes up, preventing Scott from being able to see or hear anything else that Stiles said. Once this becomes clear to Stiles, he switches to typing, sending a message that reads-- "It looks like--", causing Scott to become even more confused
SCOTT: It looks like what?
Scott watches the screen of his laptop-- the video chat app is frozen on Stiles' horrified expression, and the small rainbow circle spins in the middle to communicate that the text aspect of the application is buffering, causing Scott to become even more frustrated. He eventually sighs and starts typing something on his keyboard in hopes of triggering it to start working, but when this does nothing, he groans in frustration
SCOTT: Come on, damnit!
Finally, Stiles' text comes through, which reads "Someone's behind you." Even more confused, Scott just stares at the screen with a frown and whispers under his breath
SCOTT: What?
Scott opens up his own video screen and zooms in to see a man standing behind him and staring at him intently, causing Scott to quickly push himself backwards in his rolling chair to turn around to see who it is
It's Derek, who immediately grabs him by the back of his hoodie and pulls him to his feet before shoving him face-first against the nearby wall and holding him there as he growls at him angrily
Many flinch at the sudden movement
DEREK: I saw you on the field!
Scott, caught off-guard, stammers as he responds
SCOTT: Wha-what are you talking about?
DEREK: [angrily] You shifted in front of them! If they find out what you are, they find out about me-- about all of us. And then it's not just the Hunters after us, it's everyone.
Scott is so anxious at this point that he is practically hyperventilating
SCOTT: They didn't see anything! I s-swear, I--
DEREK: [firmly] And they won't. Because if you even try to play in that game on Saturday, I'm gonna kill you myself.
Derek shoves Scott harder against the wall before letting go of him, leaving Scott panting for breath. By the time he's pulled himself together enough to look around, Derek has completely vanished. Scott turns and leans back against the wall to catch his breath, which is when he notices his window is wide open, indicating that Derek got in and out of his bedroom through it. He slams his hand against his knee, aggravated that he's being forced to sit out of the game.
Remus frowns sadly, knowing that in a way he has it easier than Scott.
It's the next day at school, and Scott and Coach Finstock are talking as they walk through the boy's locker room and into Coach's office. Coach is completely confused and exasperated by what Scott has just told him
COACH: What do you mean, you can't play the game tomorrow night?
Scott stands there awkwardly, knowing that he has no real good reason for backing out that won't sound stupid to the Coach, and repeats himself
SCOTT: I mean... I can't play the game tomorrow night...
Coach Finstock refuses to accept this answer and sits on the edge of his desk with his arms crossed over his chest
COACH: You can't wait to play the game tomorrow night!
Scott, frustrated and unhappy to have to do this in the first place, once again repeats himself
SCOTT: No, Coach-- I can't play the game tomorrow night.
Coach just stares at him, dumbfounded
COACH: ...I'm not following.
Scott hesitates as he tries to think of a good reason to explain himself before he speaks
SCOTT: I'm having some... personal issues.
COACH: Is it a girl?
SCOTT: No.
COACH: Is it a guy?
Scott, realizing that this is not going to be an easy task, rolls his eyes
Many laugh at Coach's antics
COACH: You know, our goalie, Danny, is gay...
Scott sighs impatiently and tries to make his point
SCOTT: Yeah, I know, Coach, but that's not it.
Coach tries to dissuade Scott from backing out of the game by distracting him
COACH: You don't think Danny's a good-looking guy?
Scott gets a little flustered by this question
"I do" Seamus and Dean answer simultaneously
SCOTT: I... think he's good-looking. But, I-- I-I like girls.
Scott realizes that Coach has successfully gotten them both off topic and becomes frustrated as he tries to steer it back to the point, raising his voice a little in the process
SCOTT: And that's not it, anyway. I-I-
Coach continues to try to mess with Scott
COACH: What, is it drugs? Are you doing meth? Because I had a brother that was addicted to meth. You should have seen what it did to his teeth! They were all cracked and rotted. It was-- it was disgusting.
Scott, once again distracted, gets sucked into the story
SCOTT: My God-- what happened to him?
COACH: [exasperatedly] He got veneers!
This conversation seems to spark an idea in Coach about why Scott could possibly want to get out of the game
COACH: Is-is that what this is about? Are you afraid of getting hurt, McCall?
Scott once again hesitates before he answers
SCOTT: No... I'm... having some issues dealing with aggression...
COACH: Well, here's the good news! That's why you play lacrosse! Problem solved.
SCOTT: [sighing] Coach, I can't play the game tomorrow night.
Coach, just as frustrated by this conversation as Scott is, becomes serious and looks Scott sternly in the eye
COACH: Listen, McCall, part of playing first line is taking on the responsibility of being first line. Now, if you can't shoulder that responsibility, then you're back on the bench until you're ready.
Scott gasps in surprise at this reaction
SCOTT: If I don't play the game, you're taking me off first line?
Coach, seeing that Scott truly does want to be on first line, sighs and reiterates his point in hopes of getting him to maintain his commitment to the team
COACH: McCall... play the game.
"It would be a lot easier if he would understand" says Narcissa, receiving many nods in agreement.
The scene cuts to the hallway, where Scott has just left Coach's office, looking overwhelmed and conflicted about the game. His phone rings, and he looks at it to see that his mom has just sent him a text message, which reads "Got the night off! Coming to see you play! So excited!!" Scott raises his eyebrows at this, but before he can react further, he looks up to see Allison coming down the staircase and is immediately distracted when she approaches him
ALLISON: Hey.
Scott smiles widely as he greets her
SCOTT: Hey.
Allison takes note of the fact that he's holding his phone in his hand
ALLISON: Busy?
When Scott looks confused, she points at his phone, and he nervously stammers out a response
SCOTT: No, no, it's just, uh, my mom. She's nothing.
Allison frowns, and Scott, realizing he misspoke in a way that sounded really mean, tries to backpedal to make up for it, which comes out even more awkward
SCOTT: I mean, it's nothing. Uh, I'm never busy for you.
Despite Scott's obvious anxiety, Allison smiles at him
ALLISON: I like the sound of that.
Scott smiles, and Allison chuckles before she continues
ALLISON: I have to run to French class, but I wanted you to know that I'm coming to see you play tomorrow.
Scott's eyes widen in surprise and mild alarm at this news
SCOTT: You are?
Scott is so taken aback that he can't make himself do anything but blink as Allison quickly runs down their plan
ALLISON: And we're all going out afterwards-- you, me, Violey Lydia, Jackson... It's gonna be great. Tell Stiles to come, too im sure Violet would love that.
Before Scott can react, Allison brushes past him as she says goodbye
ALLISON: Uh, save me a seat at lunch. I gotta go!
Scott stares at her, wide-eyed, as she walks away, before he finally comes back to himself and realizes what a sticky situation he's gotten himself into. He groans and mutters under his breath as he turns to walk the opposite way from Allison
SCOTT: Oh, God...
The bell rings, and Allison quickly rushes to her locker, spinning the combination lock until she can open it to grab her stuff for her next class. However, she immediately frowns at the sight of something in her locker and reaches out to grab it
It's the jacket she wore to Lydia's party, which Derek had surreptitiously stolen when he gave her a ride home so he could use the scent of it to lure Scott into the woods in Wolf Moon. Hidden around the corner, a Werewolf seems to be watching her, his vision stained red like Scott's was during his transformation the day before. Allison is clearly unnerved by the appearance of the jacket she had misplaced (which could not have been left by her in her locker) and she anxiously looks around to see if anyone is watching her, though she doesn't see anyone
Just then, the late bell rings, scaring her so badly that she literally jumps and clutches her chest with the same hand holding the jacket. She sighs when she realizes that it's nothing to be afraid of and sighs as she returns her jacket to the locker and grabs her notebook
"Thats weird" Marlene comments
Scott is in math class, where he's been chosen to stand at the blackboard to work out a math problem. Lydia, too, was chosen to do the same thing and is standing next to him when she suddenly speaks to him in a quiet, snide voice while she rapidly writes her math equation
LYDIA: Why is there a rumor going around that you're not playing tomorrow?
Scott, clearly tired of debating this with everyone, sighs in frustration and is barely writing anything
SCOTT: 'Cause I'm sort of not.
Lydia continues to sneer at him in irritation as she quickly writes more of her math work onto the board with her left hand
"She looks smart" says Theo, complimenting the girl.
LYDIA: I think you sort of are-- especially when you brutally injure my boyfriend by ramming into him.
Scott, visibly appalled, makes a face as he turns to look at Lydia
SCOTT: He brutally injured himself ramming into me.
Lydia ignores him completely as she continues to make her point
LYDIA: Jackson's gonna play tomorrow... But, he's not gonna be at his peak... and, I prefer my boyfriend... at peak performance.
Scott raises an eyebrow, not understanding what this has to do with anything
SCOTT: Okay...
LYDIA: I date the captain of the winning lacrosse team. And, if they start off the season losing, I date the captain of the losing team. I don't date losers.
SCOTT: [frustrated] Losing one game isn't gonna kill anyone.
Lydia, not liking this answer, returns to her work on the blackboard, and Scott's voice becomes softer and more quiet
SCOTT: In fact, it might even save someone...
Lydia realizes that debating him isn't a successful tactic and decides to switch to threats instead, her tone becoming even more rude than it has been this whole conversation
LYDIA: Fine. Don't play. We'll probably win anyway. Then, we'll go out after, like we were planning, and I'll introduce Allison to all the hot players on the team... and Scott McCall can stay home, surfing the 'net for porn.
This causes many immature students to laugh, some pure-bloods confused of what it means.
Lydia finishes her math problem with a flourish and gives him a significant look before flipping her hair over her shoulder, wiping the chalk dust off of her hands, and sashaying back to her seat
Meanwhile, the math teacher simply looks at Scott with an unimpressed expression as he skims over Scott's work
TEACHER: Mr. McCall, you're not even close to solving your problem...
Scott sighs, though he can appreciate the irony of the double-meaning in these words as he mutters under his breath
SCOTT: Tell me about it.
Closing the combination lock on it when Stiles suddenly appears, grabbing him by the shoulders and pulling him away
STILES: Hey, come here.
Scott allows Stiles to continue to manhandle him while frowning in confusion
SCOTT: What?
STILES: [urgently] Come here!
Stiles pulls Scott over to the bottom of a short stairway before pointing up the stairs to where his father, Sheriff Stilinski, is standing and speaking to the principal with one of his deputies
STILES: Tell me what they're saying.
Scott looks around until he finds where Stiles is pointing and focuses his hearing on their locution
STILES: Can you hear 'em?
SCOTT: Shhh!
Scott continues to focus until Stilinski's voice can be heard as clearly as if he was speaking to them directly
STILINSKI: I want everyone under the age of eighteen to be in their home by 9:30PM. We'd like to institute the curfew, effective immediately.
PRINCIPAL: Look, we don't--
Scott, having heard enough, turns back to face Stiles with a grim expression
SCOTT: Curfew because of the body.
Stiles scoffs in exasperation and smacks Scott on the arm to emphasize his point
STILES: Unbelievable. My dad's out looking for a rabid animal, while the jerk-off who actually killed the girl is just hangin' out, doing whatever he wants.
SCOTT: Well, you can't exactly tell your dad the truth about Derek...
Stiles nods his head purposefully
STILES: I can do something.
Scott looks at him with a skeptical expression
SCOTT: Like what?
Stiles' expression is determined when he answers
STILES: Like, find the other half of the body.
Many facepalm
Stiles turns and walks off without another word. When the gravity of what Stiles has just said hits Scott, he scoffs incredulously
SCOTT: Are you kidding???
Scott goes to follow after Stiles when he's suddenly distracted by the sound of Lydia's voice and turns to find the source
LYDIA: This is Allison.
She's down the hallway to Scott's left, where she is introducing Allison to a good-looking male student with a lacrosse-stick in his bookbag, with Violet standing next to them with a bored expression, indicating that Lydia is making good on her threat and is purposely doing this while Scott is nearby as a message that he better play in the upcoming game. The lacrosse player reaches out his right hand to shake Allison's, and the two smile at each other
LACROSSE PLAYER: Hi. Nice to meet you.
LYDIA: She's the new girl. She just moved here.
LACROSSE PLAYER: Oh, how do you like it?
ALLISON: I like it.
Scott, clearly jealous, walks over to them, and when Allison sees him coming, she wraps up their conversation
ALLISON: It was nice meeting you. See you soon. I'll be at the game.
Allison breaks away from Lydia, Violet and the nameless lacrosse player to go see Scott. Lydia and her friend walk away hand-in-hand with Violet sending one last smile to Allison and Scott before rushing after her sister as Allison turns to Scott, who tries to hide just how jealous he is
SCOTT: So, Lydia's introducing you to everyone?
Allison just smiles, completely oblivious to Lydia's ulterior motives
ALLISON: She's being so unbelievably nice to me.
Scott mutters under his breath
SCOTT: I wonder why.
ALLISON: Maybe she gets how much being the new girl can suck.
Scott looks down and notices that Allison is holding the jacket she was wearing at the party and briefly flashes back to Friday night, when he saw where Derek had hung the stolen jacket on a tree limb to lure him to the woods. Back in the present, Scott looks shocked and is unable to conceal it from her
SCOTT: ...Where did you get that?
Allison is once again oblivious to Scott's suspicious line of questioning and simply shrugs
ALLISON: My jacket? It was in my locker. I think Lydia brought it back from the party, she has my combination--
Scott, now really worried and remembering Derek's interest in Allison when offering her a ride home, continues to question her with an urgent tone of voice
SCOTT: Did she say she brought it back, or did somebody give her the jacket?
ALLISON: [confused] ...Like who?
SCOTT: Like Derek?
Allison frowns in confusion
ALLISON: Your friend?
SCOTT: He's not my friend. How much did you talk to him when he drove you home?
Allison continues to frown, clearly confused and not really liking Scott's tone but trying to keep it civil
ALLISON: Mmm, not much at all.
SCOTT: What did you say?
Allison, now completely weirded out by how suspicious Scott is acting, excuses herself from the conversation
ALLISON: I... gotta get to class.
SCOTT: [urgently] Allison--
ALLISON: No, I really have to go...
Allison rushes away without another word, and Scott, looking furious, clenches his jaw, his entire body tense, as he decides to give Derek a visit
"That Derek guy really needs to stop getting involved" muttered Harry
Scott rides his bike through the woods, furiously pushing the pedals so he can go as fast as he can. Once he's made it to the Hale House ruins, he jumps off his bike and throws it to the ground before he races over to the front porch. He tosses off his helmet and his bookbag, throwing them forcefully to the ground as well as he screams for Derek
SCOTT: Derek! DEREK!
Catching his breath, Scott looks around for a moment, taking note of a recently-dug patch of earth to the left of the house and narrowing his eyes suspiciously. He suddenly senses the presence of another person and turns to find to his surprise that Derek is standing on the porch, staring at him. Scott, startled, jerks reflexively before remembering why he's here and making his point
SCOTT: Stay away from her! She doesn't know anything!
Derek takes a few steps before hopping off of the porch and striding over to where Scott is standing
DEREK: Yeah? What if she does?
Derek stops walking when he's about six feet away from Scott and gives him an incredulous look
DEREK: You think your little buddy Stiles can just Google "Werewolves," and now you got all the answers? Is that it?
Scott, still furious, stays silent as he tries to catch his breath, so Derek continues as he slowly walks closer to Scott to make his point
DEREK: You don't get it yet, Scott, but I'm looking out for you. Think about what could happen. You're on the field... the aggression takes over... and you shift in front of everyone.
Scott, not wanting to believe this, glares at Derek, who decides a practical lesson is in order. He bends down and picks up Scott's lacrosse stick from his abandoned backpack
DEREK: Your mom, all your friends... and when they see you...
Derek takes the lacrosse stick and pushes the end with the net into Scott's chest, causing the younger Werewolf to swat it away, visibly irritated. Derek pulls up the stick and flicks out his claws, using them to shred the net in the end of the lacrosse stick and causing Scott to gasp
"That was cruel" says Lily, wondering how anyone could do that to a boy
DEREK: Everything falls apart.
Derek casually tosses the stick up into the air, and in the moment of distraction it took Scott to catch it, Derek ran away at super-speed, leaving a very furious Scott behind
Many groan at the man
Stiles has just arrived at Scott's house, where he lets himself in the front door without knocking and wastes no time running up the steps as fast as he can, his limbs flailing the whole way up. He finally makes it to Scott's room, where he finds Scott restringing the net on his lacrosse stick after it was ripped by Derek. Stiles breathlessly and manically begins asking Scott question after question
STILES: What did you find? How did you find it? Where did you find it?
Scott, who has been sitting calmly, looks up at Stiles curiously, leading Stiles to answer his un-asked question, his eyes blinking furiously
STILES: ...And, yes, I've had a lot of Adderall, so...
People laugh at this
SCOTT: I found something at Derek Hale's.
STILES: [gasping] Are you kidding? What?
SCOTT: There's something buried out there. I could smell blood.
STILES: That's awesome!
Stiles reconsiders his words and tries again
STILES: ...I mean, that's terrible. Whose blood?
Scott stands up so he can look at Stiles eye-to-eye
SCOTT: I don't know... But, when we do, your dad nails Derek for the murder. And then, you help me figure out how to play lacrosse without changing, because there's no way I'm not playing that game.
Scott holds up his lacrosse stick for emphasis before tossing it onto his bed as he and Stiles leave
Scott and Stiles have just made it inside the hospital, unsure of where to go to get the information they need. After a moment, Stiles sees a sign on the wall to point them in the right direction (which reads "ER/Admissions->, Laboratory ->, Morgue ^") and gestures toward it
STILES: Hey.
SCOTT: Okay.
Scott takes one last look around before slowly backing into the door towards the morgue, leaving Stiles behind as a look-out
STILES: Good luck, I guess...
Stiles goes back toward the lobby so it doesn't look too obvious, where he sees Violet waiting in one of the seats, Lydia further down the hall. He immediately gets both nervous and excited to be in close proximity with his crush and has to turn around and lean against the nearby reception desk to pull himself together
STILES: [groaning] Oh, my God...
He tries to surreptitiously look back at Violet once again, and after a long moment, he can't resist trying to talk to her
STILES: [nervously] Hey, Violet... You probably don't remember me. Um, I sit behind you in biology.
Violet makes a confused face but doesn't say anything, so Stiles keeps talking
STILES: Uh, anyway, I always thought that we just had this kind of connection.
Violet makes a face as though this surprises her, which gives Stiles the motivation he needs to continue
STILES: Unspoken, of course. Maybe it'd be kind of cool to... get to know each other a little better...
All of the sudden, it becomes obvious that Violet has been on a phone call using a Bluetooth headset this entire time and hasn't been listening-- her facial expressions were either in response to the phone conversation or out of surprise that Stiles would continue talking to her when she wasn't listening
VIOLET: on the phone] Hold on, give me a second.
Violet a hits the hold button on her headset and takes it out of her ear before turning to speak to Stiles directly
VIOLET:I'm so sorry i didn't realise you were talking to me, I didn't get any of what you just said. Is it worth repeating?
Stiles, visibly embarrassed and feeling awkward, tries to get out of this situation by chuckling nervously and going to sit down elsewhere
STILES: No. Sorry, I'll just sit...
Stiles sits in the chair around the corner from her and mutters under his breath
VIOLET: are you sure?, I have some time
STILES: yeah no its totally fine, You don't care... (mumbling the last bit)
This causes Lily and James to frown thinking how their daughter couldn't care what someone was saying.
Violet frowns but doesn't say anything else only gives him a nod and a smile before going back to her phone call.
Meanwhile, Scott is in the hallway on his way to the morgue, where he's nervously looking around, trying to figure out where he's going while also avoiding any staff members. One doctor comes out of a nearby room and looks over at Scott, who turns around to face the wall until the man goes back to what he's doing, allowing Scott to slip right into the door to the morgue on the right
Inside the morgue, the lights are shut off, and Scott slowly looks around until he makes it to the wall of metal cubbies where the bodies are kept. He passes over a drawer labeled "Semret Fesseha" and looks down to find the next drawer is labeled "Jane Doe, partial," which is exactly what he's looking for. He slowly opens the drawer and gently removes the sheet; however, the sight of the lower half of the drawer grosses him out so much that he quickly shoves the drawer closed as soon as he gets the scent and rushes away
Back in the lobby, Jackson has just come out of one of the doctor's offices, where he's wincing as he rubs his right shoulder. Lydia stands to her feet and eagerly starts to question him
LYDIA: Okay. Did he do it?
Jackson shrugs
JACKSON: He said not to make a habit of it, but one cortisone shot won't kill me.
LYDIA: You should get one right before the game, too.
Jackson gives her a look as though to say, "What did I just say?", but Lydia is undeterred
LYDIA: The pros do it all the time. You want to be a little high school amateur?
Lydia's voice becomes lower and more seductive
LYDIA: Or...
Lydia grabs Jackson by the front of the shirt and pulls him toward her
LYDIA: Do you want to go...
Lydia pulls him closer until their lips are just inches apart
This causes Violet to groan as she just wants to go home.
LYDIA: Pro...?
Lydia and Jackson begin kissing right in the middle of the lobby, much to the dismay of Stiles and Violet, who decided reading a pamphlet titled "Menstrual Cycle" would be a good way to go undercover in the lobby. Once Violet, Lydia and Jackson are gone, Stiles is distracted by Scott, who rips the pamphlet out of his hands, scaring him so much he jumps in his seat
STILES: [yelping] Holy God!
Scott is so disturbed by what he's just learned that he doesn't even try to sugar-coat it
SCOTT: The scent was the same.
STILES: You're sure?
SCOTT: Yes.
STILES: So, he did bury the other half of the body on his property?
SCOTT: Which means we have proof he killed the girl.
STILES: I say we use it.
Stiles starts to walk away, and Scott, looking confused, follows after him
SCOTT: How?
Stiles sighs and stops, turning to face Scott to make sure of what they're about to do
STILES: Tell me something first-- are you doing this because you want to stop Derek, or because you want to play in the game and he said you couldn't?
Though it's clear by the look on Scott's face that both of the offered options are true, he goes with the first one to appease Stiles
SCOTT: There are bite marks on the legs, Stiles-- bite marks.
This convinces Stiles, who nods in agreement
STILES: Okay. Then we're gonna need a shovel.
He smacks Scott playfully on the shoulder before leading him out of the hospital
Night has fallen, and Derek has just walked out of the Hale House ruins towards his Camaro. He opens the door to the car and gets in, starting the engine and driving away, not knowing that Scott and Stiles were watching him from a distance in Stiles' Jeep. Once Derek was a fair distance away from the house, Stiles drove the Jeep closer to the property, parking it so that he and Scott can get out with their shovels in hand. Scott looks around for a moment until Stiles joins him at the front of the Jeep, leading Scott to hand him a flashlight before the two head off toward the side of the house where the recently-overturned patch of earth is located
After a moment, Scott speaks up, sounding concerned, though he doesn't stop walking toward the house with Stiles
SCOTT: Wait... Something's different.
Stiles' voice sounds uneasy when he responds
STILES: Different how?
SCOTT: I don't know...
The two finally reach the suspected gravesite, and Scott aims his shovel towards it with a shrug
SCOTT: Let's just get this over with.
Scott jams his shovel into the ground, stomping the spade-end with his foot to push it in further before scooping up some dirt and throwing it aside
The two work in silence for several minutes as they dig up the grave until Scott, sounding anxious, wipes his brow with his sleeve before he finally speaks up again
SCOTT: This is taking way too long.
Stiles rolls his eyes, but doesn't stop digging
STILES: Just keep going.
SCOTT: [exasperatedly] What if he comes back?
Stiles shrugs nonchalantly and continues to dig, as does Scott
STILES: Then we get the hell out of here.
SCOTT: What if he catches us?
STILES: I have a plan for that.
SCOTT: ...Which is?
Stiles stops digging, leading Scott to do the same so they can look each other in the face
STILES: You run one way. I run the other. Whoever he catches first? Too bad.
Stiles shrugs again as though it's no big deal and gets back to digging. Scott sighs in exasperation before getting back to work as well
"That is something you would do to me" says Harry to Ginny who just shrugs to say 'yeah'
SCOTT: I hate that plan.
Scott dumps another scoop of dirt to the side and is about to dig in again when Stiles' shovel hits something solid, causing Stiles to raise his left hand and hold it out in front of Scott to keep him from moving
STILES: Oh, stop, stop, stop.
When they both look down, they see several twine rope strings poking out of the earth, and the two kneel down so they can brush the dirt away with their bare hands. They eventually uncover what looks like a bundle of a rough fabric, like burlap, which has been tied closed with the twine rope. Stiles starts to try to untie the bindings, and Scott, still on edge with fear that Derek is going to come back and catch them, impatiently urges Stiles on
SCOTT: Hurry!
Stiles, frustrated by Scott's anxiety, responds in an irritated tone of voice
STILES: I'm trying. Did he have to tie the thing in, like, nine hundred knots?
SCOTT: I'll do it.
Stiles continues to untie one end of the bundle, while Scott bends down further to start untying the other. After a long moment, the two manage to get it all unknotted, and they open the bundle to find what looks like a severed head of a black wolf. This scares the boys so badly that they both scream loudly and leap out of the grave, both landing on their bottoms as they scurry away from the half of the wolf corpse. In the foreground, a flowering plant with purple petals can be seen, but neither Scott nor Stiles notice as Stiles finally questions what they've just uncovered
STILES: ...What the hell is that?
SCOTT: It's a wolf.
STILES: [sarcastically] Yeah, I can see that. I thought you said you smelled blood, as in human blood?
Scott shrugs before throwing his hands up, not knowing what else to say
SCOTT: I told you something was different...
Stiles, completely dumbfounded, throws his own hands up incredulously
STILES: This doesn't make sense.
SCOTT: We gotta get out of here.
Stiles nods in agreement and moves up onto his feet in a crouching position that matches Scott's
STILES: Yeah. Okay, help me cover this up.
Stiles moves to start pushing the dirt back into the grave with his hands, Scott moving to do the same, when suddenly Stiles sees the purple flower in the foreground and stops what he's doing. Scott takes notice of Stiles' change in demeanor and questions him on it
SCOTT: What's wrong?
STILES: You see that flower?
Scott frowns in confusion, not understanding the relevance
SCOTT: What about it?
STILES: I think it's wolfsbane.
Scott, still confused, frowns even more
SCOTT: What's that?
Stiles can't help but scoff incredulously at Scott's ignorance
STILES: Uh... haven't you ever seen The Wolf Man?
Scott shakes his head
SCOTT: No?
STILES: Lon Chaney, Junior? Claude Rains?
Scott shakes his head again, more impatiently, and Stiles becomes even more exasperated
STILES: The original, classic Werewolf movie?
Scott, believing they're wasting time, sighs and impatiently reiterates his previous answer
SCOTT: No!
Stiles makes a face at him, and Scott loses his patience
SCOTT: What?
Stiles shakes his head, completely appalled by Scott's ignorance regarding cinematic classics
STILES: You are so unprepared for this.
Stiles pushes himself up to his feet and runs over to the flower, pulling the entire plant up by the roots and gaping in surprise when he realizes that the base of the plant has more twine rope tied around it, which is also buried underground. He gently pulls up the rope, which has randomly placed wolfsbane petals attached at various points along the length of it, only to find it is connected to the bundle of burlap around the wolf's head, the long length of it buried around the grave in a spiral pattern which glows red as Stiles unravels it
Scott looks at Stiles with a skeptical expression, confused as to why they're wasting their time with this, when suddenly, he looks down and is startled back onto his feet by what he finds in the grave
SCOTT: Stiles...
Stiles looks up and sees Scott staring in the grave with a shocked expression, so he walks over to where Scott is standing so he can see it from Scott's vantage point. When he follows Scott's line of sight, he yelps and jumps back a step, grabbing Scott's shoulder with his left hand to steady himself.
STILES: Oh!
The camera pans down into the grave, where the upper half of the human female body that Scott had originally seen in the woods the night he was bitten stares blankly up at them. Stiles gasps in shock
This causes many to gasp and younger ones to turn away
Several mornings later, Scott is leaning against the Jeep, parked at the edge of the Hale property, as he watches Derek get marched out of the house in handcuffs by one of the Beacon County Sheriff's Department's deputies. Derek looks over at Scott with a scowl that causes Scott to look down at the ground with an expression of mixed guilt and shame as Derek is pushed into the back of a deputy's cruiser
A moment later, Scott notices Stiles walking from out of the woods toward the cruiser, which is unattended now that the rest of the deputies are checking out the crime scene itself. Scott's mouth gapes open in shock when he realizes what Stiles is about to do, just as Stiles looks back at Scott. Scott immediately tries to get Stiles to stop by mouthing his response at him
SCOTT: [muttering] No!
Stiles ignores him and darts toward the passenger door to the cruiser and opens it so he can talk to Derek, causing Scott to groan in exasperation
SCOTT: Oh, God...
Scott turns away from them, unable to watch but not wanting to draw more attention to what Stiles is doing
Meanwhile, Stiles sits in the passenger seat and turns around so he can face Derek and speak to him through the caged window between the backseat and the front seats of the cruiser. It's obvious that he's nervous because of how he is rambling
STILES: Okay, just so you know, I'm not afraid of you.
Derek's head is tilted down, but his eyes move up to look at Stiles through his eyelashes with a scowl that immediately terrifies Stiles
STILES: ...Okay, maybe I am. Doesn't matter. I just wanna know something.
Stiles shifts nervously in his seat
"He just looks someone just killed his puppy" said Mary
STILES: The girl you killed? She was a Werewolf.
Derek continues to scowl blankly and silently at Stiles, who keeps talking
STILES: She was a different kind, wasn't she? I mean, she could turn herself into an actual wolf, and I know Scott can't do that. Is that why you killed her?
Derek finally lifts his head to speak, but his tone of voice is understandably irritable due to the current situation
DEREK: Why are you so worried about me, when it's your friend who's the problem?
Derek jerks his head toward where Scott is standing for emphasis, and Stiles moves back away from Derek a tiny bit
DEREK: When he shifts on the field, what do you think they're gonna do, huh? Just keep cheering him on?
Stiles gulps in anxiety, knowing that Derek isn't exactly wrong
DEREK: I can't stop him from playing, but you can...
Derek leans forward so his face and Stiles' are only inches apart as he lowers his voice to a whisper
DEREK: And trust me-- you want to.
Before Stiles really has a chance to process this, the passenger door opens, and a hand is seen yanking Stiles out of the car
It's Sheriff Stilinski, who has grabbed him by the right arm and is dragging his son away from the car, with Stiles groaning the whole way
STILES: Ow. Ow. Ow.
Stilinski finally stops and lets go of Stiles before standing in front of him so they can have a talk
STILINSKI: There. Stand.
Stiles exhales loudly and finally meets his father's eyes as Stilinski prepares to scold him in an exasperated tone of voice
STILINSKI: What the hell do you think you're doing???
Stiles scoffs, as though he thinks Stilinski should be thankful for what he did
STILES: I'm just trying to help!
STILINSKI: Okay, well, how 'bout you help me understand exactly how you came upon this?
Stiles, realizing he's in trouble, starts to evasively talk himself out of it
"He must be so tired of him" states Hermione
STILES: ...We were looking for Scott's inhaler...
STILINSKI: [impatiently] Which he dropped when?
STILES: [hesitantly] The other night...
STILINSKI: The other night... when you were out here, looking for the first half of the body?
STILES: [nodding] Yes.
STILINSKI: The night that you told me you were alone and Scott was at home?
STILES: Yes.
Stiles cringes when he realizes he just outed himself and Scott and tries to backtrack
STILES: ...No.
Stilinski gives Stiles a hard look, and Stiles realizes he's been caught and sighs
STILES: Oh, crap...
Stilinski, sounding exhausted and out of patience, stares at Stiles intensely
Many sign in aspiration
STILINSKI: So, you lied to me.
STILES: [hesitantly] That depends on how you define "lying..."
STILINSKI: Well, I define it as "not telling the truth." How do you define it?
STILES: Um... "reclining your body in a horizontal position?"
Stiles gestures with his hands to emphasize his point, and Stilinski, annoyed and irritated, finally just dismisses him
STILINSKI: Get the hell out of here.
Eager to get out of this tense conversation, Stiles wastes no time doing exactly as he's told for once
STILES: Absolutely.
Many chuckle despite the whole situation.
Stiles and Scott speed out of the woods in the Jeep. Inside the vehicle, Stiles is driving while Scott sits in the passenger seat, trying to research on his phone. After a moment, he impatiently speaks up
SCOTT: I can't find anything about wolfsbane being used for burial.
STILES: Just keep looking. Maybe it's like a ritual or something? Like, maybe they bury you as a wolf.
Stiles thinks about it for a moment, biting on his tongue as he does so, before he offers another theory
STILES: Or, maybe it's like a special skill, you know? Like, something you have to learn?
Scott, overwhelmed by all of this Werewolf business, rolls his eyes and sighs before muttering under his breath
SCOTT: I'll put it on my "To Do" list, right underneath "figuring out how the hell I'm playing this game tonight."
Stiles is too distracted by his own mental hypothesizing to hear Scott and keeps talking as though Scott hasn't spoken
STILES: Maybe it's different for girl Werewolves...
Scott, who has been growing increasingly irritable throughout their conversation, finally loses his patience entirely and snaps at Stiles
SCOTT: Okay, stop it!
Stiles frowns in confusion
STILES: Stop what?
SCOTT: [irritably] Stop saying "Werewolves!" Stop enjoying this so much!
Stiles doesn't understand why Scott is suddenly so upset and frowns in concern
STILES: Are you okay?
Scott's aggravation becomes well known when he responds in a dark tone of voice
SCOTT: No!
Scott is now doubled over a bit in his seat, as though he's in pain
SCOTT: No, I'm not. I'm so far from being okay.
Stiles gets an idea of what this could possibly be about and looks at him with concern, not immediately noticing the sheen of sweat that has begun to coat the skin on Scott's face as he seems to start to hyperventilate
STILES: You know, you're gonna have to accept this, Scott. Sooner or later.
Scott doubles over more and begins panting hard as he groans
SCOTT: I can't.
STILES: Well, you're gonna have to.
SCOTT: No! I can't breathe...
Stiles looks alarmed as Scott groans loudly in a voice that has the dark undercurrent of a Werewolf voice along with it
SCOTT: AHH!
Scott thumps his hand against the roof of the Jeep and can no longer take it as he yells again
STILES: Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa...!
Stiles, alarmed, swerves his car out of shock, which only causes Scott more pain
SCOTT: AHH! Pull over!
STILES: Why? What's happening?
Scott instinctively opens the backpack between them and is horrified to see that the wolfsbane plant and the rope with the flowers attached to it are inside. He looks at Stiles incredulously
SCOTT: You kept it?
Stiles is starting to become exasperated, too, and yells in response
"Oh my god"
STILES: What was I supposed to do with it???
Scott, becoming more sick due to his proximity to the wolfsbane, groans loudly again, as though he's about to transform, before he shouts
SCOTT: Stop the car!
Scott looks at Stiles, who turns to look back at him and is horrified to see Scott's eyes turn bright gold. Stiles' eyes widen as he immediately slams on the brakes
STILES: Okay!
As soon as the car is in park, Stiles grabs his backpack and throws himself out of the Jeep, running toward the edge of the woods and tossing the bag as far as he can throw it to get as much distance away from Scott as possible. Once it's out of eyesight, Stiles throws his head back and sighs deeply before turning back toward the Jeep
STILES: Okay, we're good, you can--
Stiles looks up at the Jeep and is horrified when he sees that the vehicle is completely empty
STILES: Scott?
[When Stiles walks closer to the Jeep, he sees the passenger door is wide open like the driver's door, indicating that Scott had fully shifted and has run off in broad daylight. Fearful of the possible things Scott could do while not in his right mind, Stiles plaintively calls out for Scott one last time
STILES: Scott???
Panicked, Stiles is speeding down the road through the woods as he calls the police on speaker phone and begins a conversation with a very impatient dispatcher who seems very used to Stiles calling her
DISPATCHER: [on the phone] Stiles, you know you can't call the dispatch line when I'm on duty.
STILES: I just need to know if you've gotten any odd calls...?
DISPATCHER: [on the phone] Odd how?
STILES: Uh, like, an odd person, or...
Stiles struggles to come up with an example that doesn't sound like he's trying to find out if anyone has seen a Werewolf running through Beacon Hills
STILES: A dog-like individual roaming the streets...?
The dispatcher, out of patience, puts an end to their conversation
DISPATCHER: [on the phone] I'm hanging up on you now.
Stiles, panicked and desperate to find Scott before he hurts somebody, tries to get her to reconsider
STILES: No! Wai-wai-wai-wai-wait!
DISPATCHER: [on the phone] Goodbye.
The dispatcher hangs up, and Stiles angrily turns off his phone before throwing it onto the passenger seat, where Scott has left a stack of Stiles' research sitting there. The phone lands on a photo of a huge, wolf-man-like creature with red eyes, similar to the wolf who bit Scott, holding a young, unconscious woman in his arms
"They cant just have hung up on him" Molly sys in worry
Night has fallen, and the camera peers into Allison's window, where she can be seen sitting at her desk, where a box full of her belongings is sitting beside her. She starts to unpack the box and put framed pictures on the top of the desk. The camera pans over to the roof of the garage, where Scott, in full-Werewolf-mode, has crawled up and over it
When he sees her through the window, he slides down the side so he can get a closer look. Through the window, he can see Allison smiling as she looks at some of the photos she's found. He continues to crawl closer and closer to the window when suddenly, Allison gets up and closes her curtains. Without a light behind the window, Scott can see himself in the glass and is horrified by the sight of his Werewolf face and jumps down off of the roof to run away, only to run directly into the SUV pulling into the driveway, which screeches to a loud halt. Scott flies up and onto the windshield before sliding off and landing in a heap on the other side of the vehicle
Many gasp
The driver's door opens, and Chris Argent gets out quickly, horrified by the sight of Scott laying on the ground in front of him before quickly rushing over to help him
ARGENT: Oh, my God...
Having heard the commotion, Allison comes outside to see what happened just as Argent grabs Scott by the elbow to try to flip him over
ALLISON: Dad?
When Allison sees Argent crouched in front of Scott, who has just grimaced in pain and flopped onto his back, and whose Werewolf face is fortunately gone, her mind automatically assumes he purposely hurt Scott and rushes over to see what's going on
ALLISON: What the hell are you doing?
Argent, realizing how this looks, stammers anxiously as he tries to explain, and Allison crouches down to place a comforting hand on Scott's arm
ARGENT: H-he came out of nowhere, Allison.
Allison looks at her father with an incredulous expression
ALLISON: Are you trying to kill him?
Scott, knowing what he knows about Argent's secret night job, looks at Argent in fear, but Argent, oblivious to Scott's knowledge of his Hunter business, denies it
ARGENT: No, no, of course not! He just-he just ran out into the driveway.
Scott, not wanting to draw attention to himself or why he was there, immediately starts to try to change the subject in an apologetic tone of voice
SCOTT: I'm sorry. It's my fault, I'm sorry.
Allison looks at him with concern and puts her hand to his face, brushing back his hair with her fingers
ALLISON: You okay?
SCOTT: Yeah. Y-yeah, I'm fine. I swear. Sorry, I hit your car. I was just coming to say "hi."
Argent, unsure of what is really going on and clearly concerned about his daughter's feelings for Scott, looks at the young man with a slightly suspicious expression
ARGENT: You sure you're okay?
Argent reaches out a hand, and he and Scott each grip the other's forearm so Argent can help him to his feet, with Allison putting her hand on Scott's back to support him
SCOTT: Yeah. Yeah, completely.
Once Scott is standing, he tries to get himself out of the now-awkward conversation
SCOTT: Uhhh, I should go.
Allison once again reaches up with her right hand and brushes Scott's bangs away from his face
SCOTT: I've got a lacrosse game to get to.
Allison lets her hand drop, and Argent,
looking back and forth between Allison and Scott and seeing the obvious romantic tension between them, gets a conflicted look on his face. However, Scott's attention is completely on Allison
SCOTT: You're still coming, right?
Allison laughs and looks at him flirtatiously
ALLISON: Of course I'm coming.
Argent, wanting to keep an eye on the target of his daughter's affections, jumps into their conversation as a distraction and invites himself
ARGENT: We both are.
Scott looks at Argent in surprise as Argent smiles somewhat fakely and affectionately pats Scott on the arm
Scott is now in his lacrosse uniform and is hanging up his bookbag in his locker when his superhuman senses start flaring again, allowing him to hear the various noises in the locker room with complete clarity, including the sound of Jackson and another player whispering to each other, though their words are still difficult to make out over the other sounds, such as the locker doors slamming shut and equipment thumping against each other. Scott turns to look at them to try to eavesdrop
JACKSON: [whispering] ...McCall...
LACROSSE PLAYER: [whispering] ...only defense...
JACKSON: [whispering] ...not McCall...
"RUBBISH!" Both the twins yell.
Jackson looks over to see Scott looking at them, and Scott, feeling caught, looks back at his bookbag and tries to keep their conversation out of his mind. He reluctantly grabs his pads and sits on the bench to put on his shin guards, looking back over at Jackson and the others talking, only to be distracted by the sight of Stiles, who smiles when they make eye contact, happy to see that Scott managed to control himself enough not to do anything crazy while he was transformed
SCOTT: You gonna try to convince me not to play?
Stiles sighs, but doesn't look upset
STILES: I just hope you know what you're doing...
SCOTT: If I don't play, I lose first line and Allison.
This statement makes Stiles a little exasperated, and he replies in a loud tone of voice
STILES: Allison's not going anywhere... and it's one game that you really don't need to play.
Scott, once again losing his patience, replies even louder
SCOTT: I wanna play!
Stiles looks at him as though to say, "Really?" as Scott continues]
SCOTT:I wanna be on the team. I wanna go out with Allison. I want a semi-freaking normal life! Do you get that
STILES: [defensively] I get it!
Scott, embarrassed by how dramatic he just was, looks down at the floor, and Stiles sighs before sitting down next to him on the bench, his knees facing the opposite direction from Scott's
STILES: Just try not to worry too much while you're out there, okay?
Stiles considers his own words for a moment before adding onto them
STILES: ...Or get too angry...
Scott nods and replies in a quiet voice
SCOTT: I got it.
STILES: ...Or stressed...
SCOTT: Yeah, I got it.
STILES: ...Don't think about Allison being in the stands...
Scott looks up slightly as he begins to actually think about Allison being in the stands, against Stiles' instructions
STILES: ...or that her father's trying to kill you... or that Derek's trying to kill you... or the girl he killed... or that you might kill someone...
Scott looks at him with an offended expression, but Stiles is on a roll and doesn't immediately notice
"He really doesn't help sometimes" says Remus tiredly.
STILES: ...if a Hunter doesn't kill you first--
Stiles finally sees the hurt and angry look on Scott's face and instantly ends that train of thought
STILES: I'm sorry. I'll stop.
Stiles and Scott are both silent for a beat before Stiles speaks up in an awkward tone of voice
STILES: Good luck...?
This causes Ginny to snort a laugh
The school is completely dark inside as Scott staggers into the boy's locker room, grunting and groaning from the effort it's taking to reign in his Werewolf side as he scrabbles to take off his helmet while stumbling his way toward the showers
Allison has just walked into the locker room when his helmet skitters across the floor into her line of sight, causing her to frown in confusion. She takes off the purple knit hat she had been wearing as she walks toward it, her head tilted in puzzlement
Scott continues to pant and groan as he stumbles further into the locker room to where the showers are located, though he's forced to stop in front of one of the sinks to try to compose himself. This effort ultimately fails, with Scott losing control and groaning loudly as he rears his right fist back and punches the mirror in front of him; as the mirror shatters into pieces, a large chunk of the mirrored glass falls to the ground, catching the reflection of Scott's mouth, fangs completely on display
Allison, on the opposite end of the locker room, hears the glass shattering and frowns before calling out for him
ALLISON: Scott?
She takes several more paces through the room, passing a row of lockers as she walks
ALLISON: Scott, are you here?
Allison continues to walk through the dark locker room, looking around to try to figure out where Scott could have gone and why he can't respond to her. She stops dead in her tracks when she sees the broken glass on the floor, looking up to see that it's from the mirror that was very obviously punched by someone. Unbeknownst to Allison, Scott is behind her on top of one of the vents below the ceiling, watching her silently in full Werewolf form with his blazing red vision
Allison is slightly startled by the sound of rustling overhead and looks around to try to find the source of the noise. She looks up somewhat, but Scott has moved to a junction in the vents so that he is out of sight. She turns to look behind her, completely confused as to what has happened to Scott, and, starting to get nervous now, moves so that her back is pressed against the end of a row of lockers in hopes of concealing her presence to any possible malevolent threats in the room. She hears a noise behind her and licks her lips nervously before calling out for Scott again
ALLISON: Scott?
Allison looks around the corner of the end locker, but doesn't see anything except the overhead fans spinning, causing the only source of light (the half-moon outside) to flicker around the blades. She slowly walks towards the showers and tries calling out for him again
ALLISON: ...Scott?
As she turns the corner to the showers, she finds Scott leaning against the tile wall with his elbows and forearms raised so that he's bracing himself on either side of his head. She seems relieved when she sees that he isn't some predator, but is still confused as to what is going on
ALLISON: Hey, are you okay?
She walks toward him and puts her arm on his shoulder
ALLISON: Scott?
Scott's head jerks around, surprised by the physical contact, but his face is now completely human. Allison looks at him with concern, but can't help but chuckle as a result of the fear she felt that she now feels was unnecessary
ALLISON: You scared me. Are you all right?
Scott turns to face her and pauses for a brief moment before looking up at her with a sheepish expression
SCOTT: Yeah... Sorry, I-I... just got kind of lightheaded for a sec.
ALLISON: Maybe it's the adrenaline?
Allison's concerned frown turns into a small, impressed smile
ALLISON: You were pretty amazing out there.
Scott smiles back at her weakly
SCOTT: I'm sorry for acting really weird today.
Allison shrugs nonchalantly
ALLISON: It's okay. I can handle weird.
Allison smiles and looks up at Scott through her eyelashes, causing Scott to huff an anxious laugh in response
SCOTT: To be totally honest, you, uh.... make me kind of nervous.
Allison seems surprised by this admission on Scott's part
ALLISON: I do?
Scott chuckles, and it is obvious that he really is nervous, just like he said
SCOTT: Yeah. Kind of, like, really nervous.
Allison laughs good-naturedly
SCOTT: I just... I... wanna make sure I get my second chance.
Allison looks at Scott with an expression that seems to indicate the answer to his hesitation is obvious as she replies in a soft voice
ALLISON: You already have it.
Scott smiles widely, and Allison shrugs again, smiling back and speaking in a more playful and flirtatious tone
ALLISON: I'm just waiting for you to take it.
Allison smirks playfully before turning and walking a few steps away into the light from the window-fan. Scott, now feeling more confident and in control, follows her
SCOTT: Well... maybe I need to learn to take more chances...
Scott continues to walk toward Allison until they are only a few inches away from each other, and Allison plays along with Scott's seductive flirting, looking up at his face again through her eyelashes
ALLISON: Maybe you do...
They stare at each other intensely for a long moment before Scott leans forward, closing his eyes as their faces move even closer. Their noses brush up against each other for another pause before Scott kisses Allison. Allison returns the kiss, and they have just finally broken apart slightly when Stiles runs into the shower, his arms and legs flailing about wildly, not realizing what he's interrupting until he gets into the shower room. He immediately gets a guilty look on his face when he realizes he just crashed Scott's first real romantic moment with Allison and ducks out of the shower room to give them some privacy
This causes many to grin widely that something is finally going right for Scott.
After a moment, Stiles' curiosity gets the better of him, and he silently ducks back in to see Allison and Scott making out again, with Allison gripping Scott's elbow to pull him closer. When they finally break apart again, they keep their foreheads pressed together as Allison giggles happily. She shifts so their noses are now pressed together as well before looking Scott in the eyes with a giddy sort of nervousness
ALLISON: I, um...
Allison finally forces herself to take a step back away from Scott, who is smiling widely
ALLISON: ...Gotta get back to my dad.
She gives Scott one last peck on the lips before turning to leave, causing Stiles to frantically try to act like he wasn't just watching them make out and failing miserably. Allison takes it in stride, though, and politely greets him before she walks past him to return to the field to leave with her dad
ALLISON: Hi, Stiles.
Stiles awkwardly returns the sentiment as she passes him
STILES: Hey. Yeah.
Once Allison is gone, Stiles rolls his eyes and waits until she's out of earshot while Scott, dazed in the afterglow of his romantic interlude with Allison, walks over to him with the cheesiest grin on his face
SCOTT: I kissed her.
Stiles, clearly finding Scott's dopey demeanor tedious, nods patronisingly
STILES: I saw.
Scott is unbothered by Stiles' lack of excitement for him
SCOTT: She kissed me.
Stiles makes a face but continues to humor him
STILES: Saw that, too. That's pretty good, huh?
Even without his kiss with Allison and reassurance that she's still interested in him, Scott has a much more positive outlook on his future now and he shares it with Stiles
SCOTT: I-I-I don't know how, but I controlled it. I pulled it back. Maybe I can do this? Maybe it's not that bad?
Stiles, seeing how truly happy and at peace Scott currently is, decides he doesn't want to spoil his mood and tries to beg off
STILES: Yeah...
Stiles chuckles nervously
STILES: Heh... we'll talk later, then...
Stiles pats Scott on the shoulder affectionately and turns to leave, but Scott, still able to read Stiles perfectly in spite of his many current distractions, grabs him by the shoulder and forces him to turn around to tell him what's going on, his smile dimming
SCOTT: What?
Stiles sighs, not wanting to spoil Scott's positive attitude but also knowing that this information is important and needs to be shared, sighs before ultimately confessing what he just learned
STILES: The, uh, medical examiner looked at the other half of the body we found...
Scott raises his eyebrows, not sure where Stiles is going with this
SCOTT: ...And?
STILES: Well, I'll keep it simple. Medical examiner determines killer of girl to be animal, not human. Derek's human, not animal. Derek? Not killer. Derek? Let out of jail.
Scott gapes at Stiles in shock, appalled by this news
SCOTT: Are you kidding?
Stiles grimaces, making it clear that he's just as unsettled by this news as Scott is
STILES: No, and here's a bigger kick in the ass-- my dad ID'd the dead girl. Both halves. Her name was Laura Hale.
Scott's jaw drops even more when he puts the pieces together
Similar reactions are in the hall with dropped open jaws and some looking worried of what the boys have gotten themselves into.
SCOTT: Hale?
Stiles huffs an anxious laugh before grimacing again
STILES: Derek's sister.
Scott and Stiles stare at each other in shock and confusion as to what this all means
Scott's glove is still laying on the field from where he dropped it after he found his claws extending as he lost control over his transformation. Jackson, still desperate to figure out what is going on with Scott, sees it and picks it up. He examines it for a moment before noticing how worn the fingertips of the glove are, causing him to look closer and see that the very tips of the fingers have holes sliced into them. Jackson doesn't seem to know what to make of this information, but holds onto the glove as part of his investigation into what is making Scott so athletically gifted
After a moment, he senses something and turns around to find Derek standing on the field behind him in his black leather jacket, his hands in his pockets as he stares at Jackson. They stare at each other for a long moment before Derek finally turns and walks away
