I walk over to Kris's homeroom to check if he's there.  "Kris?!"  ...No response.  I walk down the halls and peek through classroom windows.  There's no one in sight.  Eventually I pass by a closet.  Maybe he's hiding in there.  I walk over and open the door, I can't see to the back of the closet.  I take out my phone's flashlight but there's still more room I can't see.  I step inside to try and reach the back, the door shuts behind me.  "Darn it!!! It's one of those self-closing doors that I'm too weak to open!!!"  I bang on the door and call for help but it's no use.  I go into messages so I can text Kris.  'Where are y-'  I suddenly start to fall, looking up I can see the floor of the closet is crumbling.  I start kicking and squirming through the air, but it doesn't affect the speed that I'm heading towards the ground.  Is this really how I'm going to die?!  And I'm only 18!  I get closer to the ground and close my eyes.  This is it goodbye world, bye mom, bye dad, bye Kris, bye Danette, bye teacher, bye Ms. Alphys, bye... Bredyl?  Nah I won't miss him.  Then the world goes black.

Time skip brought to you by a 10 minute coma

     "Ugh... my head..." I feel terrible.  I try to get up but just fall to the ground again.  "Oof"  "H-hello?"  A sweet, young male voice calls out from the void of darkness and stone structures.  "Who's there?!"  I call out, making an effort to sound strong and capable of self-defense.  "My name is Ralsei, what is your name?"  A shy, fluffy boi steps into my vision.  "I'm (y/n)! Do you know Kris?"  "Y-you know Kris?!"  "Yeah, he's my adoptive brother."  "O-oh... I'm sorry..."  "It's ok! We never really knew our real parents and our adoptive monster parents are super nice!"  "Well that is nice to hear!  C-can I ask you a question?"  "Of course!  Ask away!"  "W-well... ISKRISINTOGUYS?!"  I could barely make out what he said so I replayed it in my mind... oh!  "I'm not sure... why?  Do you like him?"  I smirk.  "K-kinda... aaaaanyway we really need to find Susie and Kris!  They have been captured by the king!"  "Wait, what?!"  "This world is ruled by the terrifying spade king.  He's a terrible father to his son and hates lighteners.  You are from the world of light so we refer to you as a lightener.  We live in the dark world so we are called darkeners."  "So this king guy kidnapped Kris and... Susan?"  "Susie, and sadly yes.  We must rescue them!"  "Alright let's go!"

     Ralsei offers me a hand... paw?  Hoof?  ...Ralsei helps me up and we run past blocks of stone with eyes carved into them, cloud things that explode when you touch them, and monsters attacking us that Ralsei puts to sleep using some kind of spell.  We slide down a wall and come across a small, empty kingdom.  "I am the prince of this kingdom."  "Y-you're a prince?!"  I bow.  "It's a pleasure to be in your presence your majesty and I'm sorry if I've offended you during our time together."  "Th-there is no need to be formal with me!  I don't have any subjects anyway... W-we should focus on saving Kris and Susie!"  Ralsei drags me away from his kingdom and deeper into the dark world.

     After a while of silence I speak up, "What does the king guy have against 'lighteners'?"  Ralsei jumps from my sudden question then calms himself down. "Let me tell you a story."  We slow our pace a bit.  "Once apon a time, a legend was whispered among shadows.  Some say it was a legend of hope while others say a legend of dreams.  It was a legend of light and dark.  This is the legend of Deltarune.  For millennia, light and dark have lived in balance, bringing peace to the world.  But if this harmony were to shatter... a terrable calamity would occur.  The sky will run black with terror and the ground with crack with fear.  Then, her heart pounding... the earth will draw her final breath.  Only then, shining with hope... three heros appear at worlds' edge; a human, a monster, and a prince from the dark.  Only they can seal the fountains and banish the Angel's Heaven.  Only then will balance be restored and the world saved from destruction!  Today the fountain of darkness, the geyser that gives this land form, stands tall at the center of the kingdom.  "But recently, another fountain has appeared on the horizon... and with it, the balance of light and dark begins to shift..."

     "Deep... but cool!  I guess... um... so you, Kris and Susie are heroes?"  "Yes!  And the world cannot be saved without them!"  "Let's go then!  We're coming Kris!!!"  Now it's my turn to grab onto Ralsei and drag him through the strange world.  I promise Kris, we'll save you... I'll protect you if it's the last thing I do.
