Life Lessons from my Sophomore Summer

My history teacher once said that Sophomore means "Wise Fool", which is what every Sophomore he's ever come into contact with really is.

I don't know if this is actually true, I haven't ever botheres to look it up, but regardless, that's what I was.

It's been a hard summer. I probably ruined my reputation too, but maybe there's a way to rebuild. Either that, or hopefully everyone forgets why that reputation was ruined in the first place.

So to all the people out there who might need random bits of life advice ranging a variety of topics, this is a list of things I've learned about people, all coming out of various situations I've been thrown in this summer.

·Sometimes, the people you love the most and the people who love you the most are just plain busy. No matter how much you need them at a given moment, they can't respond to you instantly at every moment of every day, although if it's anything like me they wish they could. Just because someone takes the better part of a day to respond to something doesn't mean they don't care anymore, they just have other things taking up their time.

·Staying positive in the face of a lot of negativity is a very rewarding thing to do, in an effort to rub positivity to others, it can be exhausting though, depending on how much negativity you're dealing with.

·Speaking of exhaustion, take naps! Please! But also make sure you aren't taking too many, if that's possible. I spent a few days napping at least two or three times a day for hours on end, and spent a week exhausted because the normal amount of sleep was nothing compared to all the bonus naps.

·Family is not necessarily the people who you're related to by blood. Sometimes family can be a really jerk and just doesn't care. You don't have to love, but you have to respect.

·Don't let silly things ruin your reputation!.

·If you want to do something that is probably an unspoken rule not to, especially if it's in defiance of your authorities, don't do it. They will find out.

·People are rude and will hurt with no regard for the person being hurt. The best thing we can do about it is not let it show that it hurts.

·If you are hurting in anyway, tell someone else! There are friends in your who don't know what's going on and it scares them to see you in such a bad state of mind without being able to help. Maybe you don't tell them everything. But as my boyfriend once told me, "I don't know what's going on in your life and you don't have to tell me if you don't want to, but let me help you because that's what I'm supposed to do and it's what I want to do."

·If something offends you, tell people and ask them to stop. Especially offensive jokes.

·You don't have to answer questions you don't want to answer. (There are obvious exceptions, of course.)

·If something or someone is making you uncomfortable, then get yourself away from the situation or person if you can. Bad things will happen if you stay in the situation. If it's a person making you uncomfortable, chances are they could be uncomfortable too.

·Hurtful comments can't dictate how you live your life. Maybe there is some truth to the comments, but learn from it, find the truth, and don't let it change you entirely.

·On that note, don't let other people dictate your life in general. Especially for kids my age who are starting to prepare for college, do what you want to do. Don't let other people make your life choices for you.

·It's a good thing to dream big.

·Self care and self appreciation does not necessarily mean it has to be done entirely on your own. If you're like me and your own worst enemy, why rely on the person you hate the most to fix your problems? Friends are there to help you.

·On the same side, it can be really hard to help other people, especially friends, since it's hard to know what to say. If you're trying to help someone and it seemingly isn't working, don't take it personally, there's just a different way that hasn't been tried yet.

·Do simple things that you like as a way to relax.

·Pokemon Go is a good excuse to get outside and walk around.

·Always look for family friendly filters on games if possible.

·Jackbox Party Games are something I should invest in for the future.

Well, I start school on Monday. I move sometime next month, and after I move I'm gonna apply for my first job. Yay it's time to have fun.
