Band Camp 2018
TUESDAY
Worst day, most physically grueling of them all.
It was also the day my friends became drug addicts.
Nonstop marching from 1 until 3, 3:30 until 5:30, 7 until 8:30.
WEDNESDAY
Started learning the drill this day, got through measure 73 of 100 measures.
Played Crypts and Creatures for the first time with my group of friendos, basically an easier version of Dungeons and Dragons. A lot of perfect 20's were rolled in really funny circumstances.
I scared a chaperone when I woke up that morning. I woke up a minute or two before wake up call, and as soon as the wake up goes over the intercoms I popped up out of bed and sat straight up.
Also I stayed up until 1:15 texting people (Well, person) and taking care of a bloody nose. Asking the importanto questions of relationships.
THURSDAY
Finished learning drill this day.
REMEMBER THE GOAL
THE ALAMO
Had a really bad bloody nose during the rehearsal, had to walk for about 5 minutes to get to the nurses's office then sat there for another 15 to clean it up, in total missed about half an hour of rehearsal.
My friend had a shin splint that got so bad he had to get wheel-chaired around.
Every time we stopped marching and had to reset formation the seniors would scream REMEMBER THE GOAL because we had a chance for no night rehearsal. The goal was failed, but it was an abbreviated rehearsal since there was a baseball game.
I also slipped away into a stairwell for reasons I'll let you decide.
FRIDAY
IT'S PARADE DAY
This was my favorite day of the camp. We had a dress rehearsal and other than that it was mostly travel and a parade.
My wheel-chaired friend was sent home to everyone's disappointment.
I tried to slip away into a stairwell again but got a really bad bloody nose, killing the moment.
"It's okay I didn't get any blood on his nice white shirt."
"Because it was already off?"
"NO. BAD THOUGHTS NO."
U-Haul gave us a 20 foot truck instead of the 26 foot one we ordered, losing an hour of time figuring it out.
Bus ride was 2 hours long. Sleeping was good.
The school we spent the night at had a playground. It's fun to watch high schoolers run around a playground just having fun.
We spent 15 minutes chucking everyone's stuff down a line until it eventually got to the gym.
The guys and the girls both had to sleep in one gym with half a mat divider it was interesting.
THE PARADE THAT DAY WAS SO MUCH FUN MY INSTRUMENT HAD SO MANY GLOW STICKS AND THE CROWDS WENT WILD
I also tripped again and will never be able to march this parade without tripping
Had Dominos Pizza that night which made it all worth.
About 15 minutes before lights out our marching director walks in "You guys can have an extra half hour of sleep no rehearsal tomorrow" and the entire gym just screams THE GOAL HAS BEEN ACHIEVED and one kid ran and hugged him.
Went to bed at 1 am and slept really good that night.
SATURDAY
It's parade day again
The parade was 1.2 miles and honestly I thought I did pretty good, no one went down.
We spent half an hour chucking a frisbee across the gym.
I got yelled at for falling asleep on the busride home because you see, when one falls asleep they go limp, and part of going limp means falling further and further forward.
This also means that if you're sitting next to someone you fall on their lap, and if that someone happens to be a guy then it's against the rules.
Didn't get home until 9:30 it was great when I finally did though.
Sunday while technically not part of band camp was another full day spent with the band. The parade was 90 minutes away yet only 15 minutes long. We played our 2 and a half minute song four times and that was it, didn't even get through cadence once.
No more parades until next Sunday, that makes me a sad Kat.
Now I'm just waiting for the trip, which is 15 days of this madness.
