You're staying with me
"Can I at least know what's going on with her?" Marley asks the nurse. The nurse has already informed her that she had no updates but Marley was relentless. Worried.
"I'm sorry, ma'am. Everything seems to be the same," the nurse spoke sweetly. She's been sweet to Marley since they've arrived and Marley fought the urge to take her frustration out on her.
"Okay," she said simply. She made her way back to Kacey who sat and colored. Of course, Leah was on her mind but she followed Marley's instructions and made her a picture.
More time passed and they remained in the emergency room. It was suffocating and nerve wrecking.
"Marley. What's happening? Where is she?" Will came running in. Marley didn't know who else to call. Simone was out of town and William was the next closest person to Leah.
"She had an allergic reaction...I think. I don't know. They won't let me see her," Marley blurted out.
Will was concerned but his anger dimmed once he saw Kacey look up at him.
"Hey, Bear. You okay?" He asked as he squatted to her level. She grew shy and only nodded. Her little mind was becoming too congested with everything taking place.
"I'm going to speak to a nurse and you'll see Leah in a minute. Okay, sweetheart?" He explained to her. She hugged him. She noticed how much William comforted Leah and she trusted him. He seems to be the only thing going good for them.
He released Kacey, having her sit with Marley while he spoke to someone. No one could respond to his questions and he was becoming impatient.
After another hour of waiting, the Doctor presented herself.
"Maleah Allen," she stated. Marley remained with Kacey as William went to receive the update.
"We're here for her. Is she okay?" Will asks.
"She's fine now. You can see her. She wants to see her daughter," the Doctor states. Will exhales deeply. He's relieved. He couldn't stand the thought of something happening to her.
He relayed the news to Marley and the three of them followed the Doctor to meet Leah.
"Hey, Baby," Leah said when she spotted Kacey. She was hesitant but slowly made her way over to Leah. William stood by the door while Marley helped Kacey into the bed.
Leah wrapped her arms around Kacey, knowing how frightened she must've been. She hates seeing her baby afraid.
"How are you feeling, Babe?" Marley asks as Leah caresses Kacey's face. She had no headspace to think about herself. Her mind is on Kacey.
"I'm fine," she replied to Marley. "Kacey look at me, Baby. I'm okay," she smiles seeing that Kacey was still scared and surely worried.
"Okay, do they know what happened?" Marley asked. Leah wasn't aware of any life threatening allergies. They were all puzzled.
"They haven't told me anything yet. They're still trying to run tests," she says weakly.
"Okay, I'm going to give Simone a call and your Mom. I haven't spoken to her yet," Marley says.
"I'll call her. I don't want to scare her," Leah says and Marley nods, going to grab her things.
Marley moves and Leah still doesn't seem to notice Will. He clears his throat, grabbing her attention. She looks up and a smile invades her lips. She doesn't even realize.
William smiles back, making his way over to her.
"Hey," he says kissing her cheek.
"Hi," she smiles.
Marley catches a glimpse of the encounter and makes a note to speak about it later with Will. Leah won't give her any insight and she wants to know what's going on with them. She exits the room to make the calls.
"How are you feeling?" He asks genuinely.
"I'm fine," she says. She instantly bites the insides of her cheek and William knows her answer is far from the truth.
"Leah. The truth," he says. She wants to talk to him but she can't. Not in front of Kacey. She looks at Kacey and then back up at Will. He understands and decides to save his questions for a more appropriate time.
"Okay," he replies.
"You hungry?" William asks and Leah giggles. She can't help but laugh to lighten the mood.
"I don't think I should be eating anything until I know what happened with my previous meal," she says sarcastically. William laughs and shakes his head.
"Okay. You said they didn't tell you anything?" he asks and she shakes her head. Leah had no known allergies. The situation was puzzling.
"Not a thing. I've only seen the doctor once and that's when she came to explain the tests. I don't have any allergies, Will. I don't know," she says quietly, keeping her eyes focused on Kacey.
"They'll figure it out. I guess all we do is wait in the mean time," he says.
"All I do is wait. You don't have to wait all night with me. It's too much," she says and Will instantly grows irritated.
He hates that she doesn't allow anyone to be there for her without feeling like a burden. Especially when Will tries his hardest to he wants nothing more than to make sure she's okay.
He knows she appreciates his help but he doesn't like when she denies it.
"Leah, don't do that. You know I have no problem with staying. I'm not leaving you by yourself," he says and she sighs. He grabs her hand, causing her to look at him, and she nods.
"Thank you," she says quietly. He smiles and kisses her cheek again.
Kacey yawns and wraps her arms tightly around Leah...or as far as her little arms can go. Will looks down at her and chuckles.
"You're such a hater. Go to sleep," he says pinching her nose. She giggles slightly and swats his hand. Will stands and grabs the extra blanket, throwing it right over Kacey.
She's been up all day and long overdue for a nap. A nap she can now take now that she knows Leah is fine.
"She's so sleepy," Leah says caressing her head.
"You are too. Get some rest and I'll wake you when they come in," he says standing before the bed. Leah playfully rolls her eyes.
"Didn't know you worked here. I'll take the suggestion, Doctor," she says teasing him. Even in a time like this, some things will never change.
"So funny. Seriously, Le. Get some sleep. This might take a while," he explains. She thinks to herself. He's always so attentive. Her well being is always first with him.
"I'll get some sleep if you get some sleep," she says eyeing her cot across from her bed.
"I'm not eve- Okay, fine," he complies. He knows Leah won't sleep if he doesn't.
She giggles because she knows just how to get him. He'll do anything as long as it was for her. It's about time she noticed it.
Will gets comfortable on the cot and Leah falls asleep immediately. She was really tired. More than she wants to admit.
Will, however, can't shake the gut feeling he has. None of this makes sense and the Doctors are taking so long to get back to them.
He can't sleep.
Instead, he watches Leah and Kacey. All he wants to do is make sure they're safe. It's just so hard. Hard because he feels like Jonah will never rest and harder because he also has his son and career to cater to.
He doesn't want to ware himself out. Especially because that will only make Leah feel guilty.
A soft knock hits the door and Marley enters.
"You came back?" Will asks when he sees her.
"I never left. I just went to handle some things. I know someone who works in the lab and you're fine wanna hear this," Marley says. Worry consumes Will.
He follows Marley into the hall and waits for her to spill the contents of her news. Marley seems nervous to tell him.
"What's up, Marley. What's wrong?" he asks. She sighs deeply before responding.
"They're redoing the tests but they seem to have found some sort of drug in the food. Something that shouldn't be anywhere near a restaurant. It was in her food and is supposed to have the same effects as an allergic reaction,"
"What the-," he shouts but quiets down once he realizes where he is. "What? How?" he asks.
"Only one person comes to mind, Will. He's fucking crazy," Marley states.
"We need the police. He's a dead man. He won't stop until he ki- Wait until I see him," Will huffs. He's been patient with the process but this has called for urgent action.
"Wait, Will. We can't go to the police until the doctor says it. My friend was not supposed to release the information," Marley begs. Will doesn't want to but he complies.
He doesn't want Marley caught up in anything. She's always been important to him too.
"Okay but as soon as she does, we are getting the police. He can't keep hurting her like this. Do you see how bad he's messing with her head?" he asks.
"Of course I see but we just need to stay calm. For her. She needs us right now," Marley says and Will sighs before leaning on wall.
"I know. I've been trying," he says quietly.
"I see you. You care about her. You've always cared about her. I know she appreciates it," Marley says.
"Honestly, Mar, I didn't see all this coming. If I feel like this, I just can't imagine how she feels. Or even Kacey," he says. It's hard seeing them like this.
"I know but we'll help her through it," she holds his shoulder and smiles.
He nods and in seconds, they hear a voice from the hospital room. They sigh before entering.
"You didn't even sleep for two seconds," Will jokes. He's in no mood to but he's trying to keep her spirits up. Especially with the news she's about to receive.
"Kacey is a terrible sleeper," she jokes.
"You good?" Marley asks, taking a seat.
"Yeah, just ready to go home. How much longer do you think it'll take?" She asks.
"I don't know but when they release you, you're staying with me," Will demands more than asks.
