"I was with my cast mates all night. Instead of sitting here and questioning me, you should be out there looking for her. I've been with people all night," Leah cried, sitting across from the detective in an interrogation room.
She had been answering their questions but they just kept asking and she was getting aggravated because no one seemed to be moving fast enough.
"I understand that ma'am, but her father-" he began with his hands folded on the table but she cut him off.
"Her father?" she blew out. "You need to be questioning him," she cried and the detectives faced each other with their faces scrunched.
"Are you saying that you think her father would have something to do with this?" they genuinely asked and she sighed, wiping her tears.
"That man has surprised me one too many times and I don't put anything past him," she mumbled, shaking her head.
"Are you referring to the domestic violence charge you have against him," the male detective asked and she nodded, looking everywhere but in his eyes. It was still a touchy subject for her and it shocked her that it was her reality every time is was brought up.
"I'm saying that he's been changing a lot and I don't know what he's capable of," she sniffled. "His mother and I went to the family court and made it so that if anything happened to her, I'd have full custody. I think he's doing this to make me look bad," she rambled, her anger growing.
"Did his mother discuss this with him?" the detective proceeded to ask.
"Not that I know of but if he found out, I know he'd find a way to get things to turn out differently," she spoke fiddling with her fingers and the detectives looked at each other and nodded.
"Alright, we're going to let you go and we are going to send a police car to you. Either that or you can stay here and wait a while," the detective stated, moving over to Leah.
"What's going to happen now? When do you think they'll find her?" she asked as she rose from her seat, meeting heights with the detective.
"We just got a call saying that they might think they have her. We are sending units out now. Just please stay patient," the detective stated as he walked out and he eyes widened as she buried her hands in her face.
Her sniffles began to die down when she felt herself within a soft embrace. She rested her head onto Williams chest as he rubbed her back and kissed her head.
"They're going to find her," he whispered and she nodded. "She's going to be just fine and you'll have her in no time," he said as he held her face up so that their eyes met. He gave her a small smile before he kissed her cheek.
"Come here. You haven't eaten all night," he said as he wrapped the blazer tighter around her and took her by her waist.
"I don't want to leave until they find her," she sniffled stopping in her tracks and looking up at Will. He turned to her and rubbed down the back of her head and down to her back.
"There's a dinner right across the street. You drank on an empty stomach and I really don't need you falling asleep on me," he softly chuckled and she nodded, pressing her lips together.
They walked out of the precinct and into the dinner across the street.
"Le, you gotta eat something," he sighed as she stirred her food around.
"They said they might have her and that they'd call but they haven't," she said looking out the window as the precinct that didn't seem too busy.
"Did they question him yet?" Will hesitantly asked and she looked over at him and let out a breath.
"He called the police and they won't tell me what happened or where they were when she went mi-" she started but got choked up on her emotions. Her mind racing, imagining how scared Kacey might be and how bad she just wanted to hold her.
William looked up and watched as her emotions took over her, making his heart throb. He dropped his fork and moved over to her side of the booth, wrapping his arm around her. He could fill the tenseness that rendered her body.
"It seems like things just keep happening and happening and I don't know if I can handle all of this," she cried shaking her head he held her closer. "I just want her to be okay. She doesn't deserve to be going through all of this," she finished, her body trembling as she spoke.
"Look at me, Maleah," he spoke and she did. "You're not going through any of this alone, okay. I'm always going to be right here. You know how much I care about you and I want you to know that I got you," he spoke truthfully and she lowered her head back against his chest and nodded.
"They're going to find her. We're not leaving until they do," he added and Leah wrapped her arms around his torso. William was right. He has been there with her every step of the way and without him, she would feel so lost half of the time.
"I don't know what I'd do without you," she said closing her eyes and Will smiled, kissing the top of her head.
He held her for a minute before his eyes widened at the sight of Jonah entering the precinct. He hesitated not knowing if Leah would want to face him but his head was getting hot and he let it get the best of him.
"Let's go," he said, pulling away and standing up from the table. He set money down for the bill and took Leah's hand before heading to the door. She followed him, continuing to ask him what was happening but he just reassured her and continued the route to the precinct.
"Did they find her?" Leah asked in a panic as she saw all of the officers moving in a panic. She has yet to lay her eyes on Jonah but the whole precincts pace seemed to have accelerated since she was in there, 30 minutes ago which caused her to panic.
"We got a call back. We think we have her. All we need is your patience and hopefully she'll be in here soon," the female officer gave a warm smile and her bright eyes that highlighted her chocolate skin gave Leah a sense of reassurance.
She took a deep breath and turned to Will, giving a toothless smile as Will returned bright eyes. Leah's smiled turned into a frown, with fear glossing over her eyes as Jonah approached the two.
"I know you know where my daughter is?" he said as an officer held his hand out in front of him, halting his movements. He glared over at Leah who just ignored him, stepping further away from him and closer to Will.
"My man. I advise you not to say anything to her. Stay over there," Will spoke but gave his gaze to Leah when she held his arm, shaking her head and signaling for him not to engage with Jonah.
"You think you can control that bitch when I couldn't?" he chuckled, making Will scoff and use his elbows to push himself up from the wall, only making Leah's grip get tighter.
"Will-" she started but he ignored her.
"I'll kill you," he threatened and another officer approached him, blocking him from moving any closer to Jonah as he chuckled. "Fuck out my way," he shouted at the officer who wouldn't budge. "He's not even suppose to be near her. How are y'all letting this happen right now," he continued to shout and Leah approached him from behind and held him by his torso, pulling him back.
"Will," she spoke softly, grabbing his attention and he relaxed in her grasp. "Will, come here. Please," she pleaded and he took a deep breath before doing as he was told. He didn't mean to cause a scene or make her feel uncomfortable but nothing pushed his buttons than Jonah calling Leah out of her name or trying to intimidate her.
"Stop it, okay? This is what he wants. Ignore him," she explained holding his jaw and he nodded.
"You good?" he asked and she gave him a small smile and nodded.
"I'm fine. Just calm down, okay?" She watched as his eyes softened while connected to hers and he nodded. She took a deep breath before returning her gaze to Jonah, who was being directed to another area by the officers.
He eyes lowered and were met with a small innocent figure. She was wrapped in a blanket and being carried in by the same female officer that spoke to Leah. Her eyes watering and he small hands trembling making Leah gasp.
Before she could get words out, Jonah called Kacey's name, making her look up at him and begin to cry. She wiggled and tried to set herself free from the officers hands, making Leah's eyebrows furrow as she moved towards.
"Baby? Hey, look at my Kacey," Leah said, making Kacey's body go still as her eyes met Leah's. "Cmere, babygirl," she cried and Kacey wrapped her arms around Leah as Leah packed her into her arms, burying her face in her neck.
"Give my daughter to me," Jonah stepped forward and shouted but the same officers kept him still. Kacey cried and shook her head which made all the officers look to Jonah.
"What's the matter, KK? You hurt?" Leah asked as she pulled the sobbing child from her chest and observed her body. Kacey continued to hiccup and sob, hearing Jonah scream across the precinct lobby.
"She was found roaming the street. She said she was making her way to the hospital to see her grandmother," the officer explained. "She also said that she didn't like being with her father," the women explained and Leah felt her anger rising.
"I swear to God, Jonah. If you touched her," Leah began and Jonah scoffed as Kacey held on tighter, her cries echoing and causing everyone to grow uneasy.
"We're going to have to ask her a few questions," the officer spoke again trying to take Kacey who winced at her touch and who's screams only got louder.
"Let me take her, please. She can't do it by herself," she pleaded and the officer nodded, guiding Leah into the room. As they passed, William rubbed Kacey's head and gave Leah a small head nod.
Kacey was now balled up in Leah's lap as the officer sat across from them. "I'm going to ask you a few questions, okay sweetheart?" She began and she clanged to Leah, silently. Leah looked down on her and then back to the officer, both met with stares of uncertainty.
"Mama, you want to tell me what happened?" Leah questioned, caressing Kacey's face and she looked up at her.
"I wanted to be with you and Grammy," she said as she snuggled closer into Leah's chest.
"Did something make you want to leave you father?"the officer asked and she stayed silent looking up at Leah who nodded down at her.
"It's okay, Bear. I'm right here just answer the officers question," she spoke softly with a reassuring smile on her face.
"Daddy scared me,"she mumbled and both Leah's and the officers eyes widened.
