Too much to lose
Leah watches as the houses swiftly move past her through the Uber window. She can only imagine what was taking place right now.
Marley has already called her phone twice but she's now playing Williams game. Her phone is on silent. She hasn't been discharged and she knows she shouldn't have left.
But how could she let Will leave and do something so foolish?
The Uber comes to a stop and she's met with William's car parked in the drive way. Her heart immediately sinks. She didn't want to be right about Will's whereabouts.
"Um...thank you," she says to the driver. She exits the car, moving slower than she is in her head.
She knows Will's character. He's a loving person. But with the play outs or recent events, she can't be too sure about the capabilities of anyone.
That's what she told herself.
Glass shattering and growls were the first sounds she heard once the engine of the car became a small echo. Her pace quickened as she headed towards the door.
The first thing she saw was Jonah on the floor. His face wasn't covered in blood but there was a decent amount. It scared Leah.
Not as much as the look on Williams face when her eyes finally met his. She stepped back slightly once he faced her.
He turned back towards Jonah with his fists still balled. A lump caught Leah in the throat. She didn't want him to continue.
"William don't, please," Leah screams snapping William out of his trance. He stills, not threatening to meet her gaze.
"Will, calm down. He's not worth it," she says when he doesn't turn to her. Jonah lays to the ground as William grips his collar.
Leah knows he's a bad person but she she hates the idea of someone being beat like this doesn't sit right with her. It brings back too many memories.
She especially doesn't need Will to get in trouble because of her mess. He mind how's straight to baby Junior and Peyton.
"Wil-"
"Leah, go get in the car," he says angrily.
She cries and shakes her head. She can't let any of this happen.
"I can't let you do this ," she says.
"Leah, now!" He screams. She jumps and clenches her chest.
She has never seen William this angry. She rarely ever sees him angry at all. She for sure has never had William speak to her like this.
She was at a loss for words. She could do nothing more than comply. She knew William was too far gone to speak to.
She walked to the car and contemplated who to call for help. The police was out of the question but who else did she have?
William glared down at Jonah who was fine being that Will had only hit him once. His free fist still balled and anticipating the contact of Jonah's skin.
"All she wants is for you to leave her alone. All she wants is for you to let that little girl be happy and for you to get yourself together. You're so fucking sorry. But she's right. You're not worth it. The only thing I can tell you is that if you go near her again, there's nothing stopping me next time," he says before releasing him.
He let's go and Jonah tries his hardest to catch his breath. His heavy coughs get lighter and lighter as William walks through the door.
Leah sits in the passenger seat of his car, watching as William approaches the car. She looks away once his eyes meet hers.
He gets in and immediately drives off. Once her reaches a good spot, he pulls over.
He parks the car and takes a deep breath before looking at Leah. She's visibly scared and although he knows he'd never harm her, he knows that it's him she's afraid of in this moment.
"Leah," he calls her name but she doesn't look at him. Her lip trembles as she interlocks her fingers.
"Leah...I-"
"I asked you not to do that, William. I asked you not to do anything like that," she says angrily. He understands why she's mad but he doesn't understand why she can't see that she has to let someone help her.
"I'm not going to let him keep this up, Leah. He won't stop and the police are doing nothing. Am I supposed to join them?" he asks.
"You came here and beat him. Do you think that's okay? Do you think he won't talk and get you in trouble. If something happens to you now because of me..." she begins to sob.
He reaches over and pulls him into her. He feels guilty. Not enough to regret what he just did but enough to feel sorry that Leah was in this predicament.
"I'm sorry. I wasn't thinking straight," he says.
"You can't not think straight right now. You have too much to lose," she whispers against his chest.
"I know and I can't lose you," he says. A burning sensation stirs in Will's chest as butterflies swarm Leah's stomach.
She can't tell if it's just the adrenaline or fear or just a feeling Will gives her but she feels so driven by his words.
She pulls back and looks up at him. All he does is care for her. More than anyone has. She doesn't feel like she feels this way just because of his help.
There's a genuine connection. One she can no longer run away from.
She moves closer and captures Will's lips between hers. He wastes no time before pulling her closer. He's been waiting for this.
He holds her jaw and deepens their kiss. Her hands find his chest.
Seconds later, Leah pulls away to catch her breath. William catches his before planting a kiss has it her temple. His favorite gesture. Hers too but she never admitted it to herself.
Until now. She just sits and looks at him while his hands cup her jaw.
"I'm sorry. I just want this to end as bad as you do," he says to her. She knows he does. She offers a coy grin and nods.
"I know but I don't want you to hurt yourself in the process. I love you too much," she says genuinely.
"I know," he responds.
He doesn't feel the need to say it back. His actions speak louder than his words. She feels the same way.
The phone starts ringing and Marley's contact shines across the screen. Leah sighs and answers the call.
"Mar,"
"Leah, where are you? You're hurt. Are you crazy?" she says into the phone.
"I'm fine. I'm promise. I had to find him," she says glimpsing over at Will. "We're on our way back now," she informs her.
"Just hurry back, please. Kacey wants you," she says.
"Okay," she says before ending the call.
They make their way to the hospital and straight to the parking lot. William helps her out if the car being that she isn't in any condition to be on her feet.
He feels guilty for having made her run to his aid.
They enter and head to their floor where they meet Kacey and Marley. Kacey runs and grabs onto Leah's legs.
"Hey, Baby," she says scooping her up.
They look up to Marley and behind her stand two officers. Leah automatically grips Will's arm. His body tenses as they approach them.
