Kacey's eyes brightly gazed into Donna's as she sang one of her favorite songs. Leah watched the sweet interaction between the two, conflicted. Kacey was the happiest in the presence of them both but Leah knew these moments wouldn't last.
The days in the hospital only grew as Donna's health only dissipated. The hospital had exhausted all options and it was up to Donna's body to do the rest of the work. With removing as much of the tumor as possible during surgery and allowing chemo to handle the rest, they were at a loss.
"Sing it again," Kacey smiled at Donna who stared at her with exhaustion filling her eyes. The most she could do was let out a small cough as she tried to catch her breath for another round.
"Why don't you let Grammy get some rest, Baby? We can come back tomorrow after school," Leah smiled and Kacey's eyes dimmed as she looked to her Grammy.
"I don't want to leave, Lele," Kacey protested causing Donna to take hold of her hand.
"Kacey, sweetheart. Tomorrow, after school, you can come and we can play that game you like and I will sing for you but right now, Grammy is tired," Donna spoke weakly causing Kacey's expression to soften.
Leah watched, her heart shattering more than it already had. She just couldn't understand how she would break the news to Kacey if anything happened to her grandmother. It was too much.
"Okay. I love you Grammy. I'll make you a card at school tomorrow with all the words I learned," she said smiling through the sadness she felt.
"I love you too, Bear. Give me a hug," she said and Kacey did just that, wrapping her arms around her grandmother's neck and allowing her arms to engulf her small body.
Leah and Donna said their goodbyes before heading out of the hospital. Marley had offered to take them out to lunch this afternoon.
"Hey, Babe," Marley smiled as she held her arms out to take Leah into a strong embrace.
"Hi, beautiful," Leah smiled into her arms. Since Leah didn't spend much time hanging out on set after her scenes or going out to get drinks with the cast, she rarely saw Marley.
Marley and Leah's characters didn't have many interactions in the show which left them deprived of each other's company.
"Hi," Kacey smiled. Kacey was always drawn to Marley. She claimed she resembled Nakia from black panther and she loved that about her.
"Hi, Bear," she chuckled picking Kacey up from the ground. She placed her onto her hip and they proceeded into the restaurant.
"How's school, Baby?" Marley asked as they waited to tended to by a waiter. Kacey shrugged her shoulder as she held Marley's hand, playing with her acrylics.
"Your words, Kacey," Leah warned.
"I learn a lot at school. We do words and numbers and stuff but I would like to be home," she mumbled, her eyes not meeting either of theirs. Marley looked to Leah and then back to Kacey, her hand caressing her head.
"Is there an issue? What's the matter, Bug," Marley asked as Leah's eyes grew with concern.
"The kids are not nice..." she started but paused looking into Leah's eyes until the waiter approached them.
"Good afternoon, ladies. My name is Daniel. The weather is beautiful today. Can I get you started with some drinks?" he asked and Leah couldn't help but let out a soft chuckle at Marleys stuck face.
"Can I get a raspberry lemonade for me and regular lemonade for her," Leah began as she put the menu down and turned to Marley.
"Right...um- can I get any sweet wine you have, please," she smiled. He let out a soft chuckle as he nodded his head. "Am I missing something?" She asked him and his face went still.
"Wine isn't usually on our lunch menu but I can make that happen if that's what you want," he said and visible shivers passed through Marley. Leah was beyond amused by the interaction.
"Oh really," she smiled looking over at Leah.
"Of course. Are you ready to order or just drinks for now?" he smiled down at her. They were both playing a game and Leah sat and watched.
"We can order now but make the two glasses of wine please. My friend here is trying to be cute with her lemonade," she chuckled and Leah shook her head.
They ordered their meals and Marley and Daniel continued to gaze over at each other constantly as he made his way from table to table.
"You keep looking so hard and your eyes will fall right out of your head," Leah teased and Marley lightly bucked at her.
"That man is fineeeee. I ain't never had no man look at me like that. Whew," she flashed her hands and shook lightly as she chuckled.
"You're a damn lie. I see men and women fawn over you all day. Me included," Leah spoke truthfully. Marley was gorgeous and no one missed the chance to tell her.
"Do you like my picture?" Kacey asked as she held up the coloring page that was given to her by the restaurant. Marley looked at it with a smirk on her face while Leah began to blush.
"Speaking of men and women fawning over each other," Marley teased with the raise of a brow. The picture included Leah, Kacey, William and Junior from their date at the zoo. Kacey made sure to include all of her favorite animals and tried her hardest to spell each of their names.
"Oh gosh," Leah chuckled as she covered her blushed face.
"No, Don't be ashamed. I don't blame you. That man has had his eyes on you for forever but you just never noticed," she said messily.
"That's not true. William and I have always been close but we've just never seen each other that way," Leah responded. It's what she truly believed.
"You have never seen him like that before but anyone who's seen the way Will looks at you, knows better. Never has it been something new either," she said truthfully.
Mateo and Zeke use to tease him about it when they first began filming. He would always look at her with the most craving glare. Only when she wasn't looking of course.
He respected the fact that she had a boyfriend and a baby that she was building a bond with. She had always been a friendly and caring person. They've been friends for forever, but William had always wanted more.
Marley and Claire always knew too. It was something they discussed amongst themselves. Leah was clueless. She only saw William as a friend.
Even though, he was in a rocky and toxic relationship with Trina, he was a first time dad. She didn't see how his mind could be focused on anything else.
However, she took Marleys words into consideration and doesn't find it hard to believe even if she didn't notice before. She couldn't help but blush. Just from the images of how he looks at her now playing in her head, she's sure Marley is telling no tale.
She still hadn't told anyone about their kiss or anything that made their relationship seem more than platonic. She didn't feel comfortable doing so.
"Here are your orders. If there's anything else I can get you. Please let me know," the waiter said as he set their plates down.
The waiter gave Marley a warm smile and she returned one. Leah shook her head and giggled while Kacey began to devour her food.
"Would you like me to give you both some privacy?" Leah asked as soon as the waiter left.
"All the privacy in the world," Marley joked.
"You're too much," Leah laughed.
"Anyways...back to you. What's up with the both of you?" Marley messily asked.
"The both of who?" Leah asked feigning confusion.
"Don't play," Marley gave her a glare and Leah began to blush once more.
"I'm not playing. It's nothing. He's been...there for me. You know. I appreciate him," she said genuinely.
"There for you. Okay," Marley messily teased. She knew better than to think that's all there was to it. Everyone knew better.
"Marley, stop it. Please," Leah laughed. She was beginning to get flustered at the topic. Speaking about her and Will made her feel things, even if she didn't want to acknowledge them.
"Okay, my bad. I'll eat my food and hush," Marley said holding her hands up in surrender. Leah playfully rolled her eyes at her.
"We're friends. That's it for right now. I don't have the headspace to deal with anything more," she said genuinely. Marley understood where she was coming from and planned to back down. For the most part.
"I get that. I still heard the 'for now' part but I'll shut up now. End of conversation," she said speedily, closing the imaginary zipper over her lips.
Leah laughed and continued to cut Kacey's burger into fours before trying her own food.
As they began to eat, Marley couldn't help but notice how red Leah's face was becoming. Her cheeks began to puff and she began to hiss although the food wasn't spicy.
"Leah, Babe. You good?" She asked seeing Leah sweat.
"I don't know. I feel funny," she responded. Kacey looked up a her. She felt how unsettled the table had gotten and automatically got scared.
She reached for Leah's hand but Leah had become too out of it.
"Leah, breathe," Marley's voice slightly elevated as she stood to her feet. Leahs chest heaved up and down as the redness in her cheeks became more profound.
She tried to speak but couldn't form words.
"Someone help her. She can't breathe," Marley shouted trying to hold Leahs head up. Kacey was hysterical.
"I'm calling an ambulance," someone shouted.
"Is she choking?" a woman asked as she moved towards her.
"She's not choking. I think she's having some type of allergic reaction. Something's not right," Marley continued to shout. Marley wasn't good in these situations. She always panicked which resulted in confusion within others.
"Does she carry an Epipen?" the woman asked.
"I don't think so. I can check," Marley spoke quickly. She scrimmaged through her purse, coming up empty handed. She was lost for words.
"Okay, stay calm. Help is on its way," the woman spoke to reassure Marley. Leah was wheezing at this point and not responding to anything being said to her.
Marley turned to see Kacey being held by a young woman who sat at the table across from them. Marley realized that Kacey needed her right now and tried to pull herself together.
"It's okay, Baby. She's going to be alright," the women said. She held her so that she couldn't see what was happening.
"My mommy," she sobbed into her shoulder. The woman was floored by the sobs of the young child.
Marleys heart broke at the sound. They've already been through so much. She asked herself why this was happening.
"Please let her be okay," she whispered to herself.
