I Apologize

"Hurry and get your shoes on so we can go, KK." Leah had woken up and gotten ready to head to set. She had also gotten Kacey ready for her second day of kindergarten.

Kacey sat behind the Island in the kitchen as she tried to get her shoes on. Leah grabbed her heels and was headed to help Kacey when Jonah woke up and sat up in the sofa.

"Hey, baby. Aren't you going to kiss daddy goodbye?"

Kacey stayed silent. She stared into Leah's eyes, not really sure what to do.

"There you go, baby." Leah helped her up, now that her shoes were finally on. "Go say bye to daddy." She gave her a smile and caressed her cheek.

Instead, she grabbed her lunch box off the counter and ran down the hall of the apartment to push the button for the elevator.

Leah grabbed her keys and phone and was about to leave the apartment when Jonah got up from the couch and walked over to her.

"You're not still mad at me too?" He tried to start a conversation but she left him with no response. "You didn't even have breakfast yet." He turned and looked in the direction of the spotless kitchen.

"It's still early. We'll stop and get something," she replied, taking one last look in the mirror and ruffling her fluffy coily curls so they sat in the right place.

"Baby, please." He moved closer and tried to touch her arm.

"Don't come near me," she said, while she gave him a menacing glare, pulling away.

"Baby, I'm sorry. I've just been so tired, I haven't been myself. You know I didn't mean any of that." His tone softened, as his eyes focused on Leah's. He took her hand and held it. "I'm really sorry."

She was conflicted. She had never seen him like this and thought it wouldn't happen again, but she knew that what he did wasn't right.

"Lele, the elevator is here!" She heard Kacey scream from down the hall.

"I have to go." She turned down the hall and followed Kacey into the elevator.

"Hey babe, are you okay!" Claire had noticed how quiet Leah had been all day.

"I'm good, Claire." She gave her a fake smile and patted her shoulder. "I'm just exhausted. I now have to get Kacey ready in the mornings instead of leaving her with the sitter," she sighed.

She didn't feel comfortable telling anyone about what happened, not even her best friend.

She was angry with him but she knew he was going through so much. She knew she loved him and didn't want to make it a big deal. It's not like he hit her, that's what she told herself to feel better.

"Okay, hun. Did you see Junior? He's so cute!" Junior was William, Leah's co-stars, son. William played her brother in their TV show.

William was who she went to talk about things she couldn't talk about with anyone else. Him, Marley and the set director could talk about anything together, especially in today's political climate.

"Oh, really! He's here?" she gasped. "I gotta see that chunky boy!" She was so excited to see Junior. William often took him to set so he could spend time with him. He had just turned a year old.

"He's in the trailer with Trina, but we can go see him at lunch." Trina was William's ex-girlfriend.

He claims they haven't been working out for a while and she tried to trap him with a baby. She's being really petty and only allows the baby to come to set if she can too.

"Really, she's still doing that. This is man is trying so hard to juggle work and a new baby and this girl just won't let up." Leah hated the fact that some people could hold grudges and take them out on children.

"She'll come to her senses once she realizes the damage she is doing." Claire rolled her eyes and waved her hand. "Cmon, they're gonna be ready for us."

They wrapped up the day and Leah went to find William and Junior.

"What you doing, bighead? Where's my baby?" Leah barged into the lounge when she heard that William was in there.

"Stop all that noise, he's right here sleeping," William scoffed.

William and Leah really spoke to each other like brother and sister. They loved each other to pieces but couldn't go one second without being mean or calling each other names.

"Look at the baby! He's so handsome." Leah bent over to see Junior fast asleep, laying on a blanket that William spread over the sofa.

"Just like his daddy, that's why he's a Junior," Trina laughed as she entered the lounge with her hands folded over her chest. Junior's real name was William Jr., named after his dad.

"Hey, Trina. How have you been?" Even though Leah didn't really like being around Trina, she didn't want to make the situation uncomfortable.

"My baby is good, so I'm good." She walked over to Willam and sat beside him.

Leah looked over at William and chuckled. She was amused at how uncomfortable he looked. She did feel bad about his situation but she never missed an opportunity to tease him.

"Stop all that, mane!" He pulled his arm out of hers after she interlocked them.

"Y'all have fun. I'm going to head out." Leah rubbed baby Junior's back and kissed his head. She left the room, making sure to give William a look that signaled her disappointment in his taste in women.

"Bye, Claire. I'm headed home." Leah had gotten all of her stuff from her trailer and was ready to go.

"I was gonna ask you if you wanted to get drinks," Claire whined, grabbing onto Leah's arm and pouting.

"Not tonight, Mama. I'm beyond exhausted. Plus, Kacey said she has a Get To Know Me project for her new class," Leah sighed.

"Where's Jonah? Not gonna lie...it seems like you're doing my parenting than him, and it's his kid. Don't come for me, I'm just saying." She raised her hands and shook her head.

"Claire, cmon. I already told you he's going through a lot on his set and I'm just trying to pitch in where I can. If not for him, for Kacey." She knew Claire was right but she didn't want to admit it.

"Okay, girl. See you tomorrow." Claire hugged her and let her head home.

"Go wash your hands so you can come eat, K Bear." Leah and Kacey walked into the door, seeing Jonah standing at the dinner table, holding gifts.

"Look what daddy got you, baby." He smiled, holding a large teddy bear and chocolates. The table was set perfectly and all of their favorite foods were served.

Kacey ran into his arms, hugging him tightly. Setting her on the ground and stooping to her level, he kissed her cheeks and held her face in his hands. "Daddy is so sorry, baby. I didn't mean to scare you, sweetheart. I promise it'll never happen again." He stared into her eyes, hoping that she'd forgive him.

She kissed his cheek and hugged him again.

"That's my girl!" he said, smiling and hugging her back. "Now, go wash those hands so we can eat." He patted her back and lightly pushed her towards the bathroom. "Change out of that uniform too."

He stood up to now give his attention to Leah. He took the flowers from the table and held them out to her. " I got something for you, too."

She folded her arms over her chest and looked away, biting the insides of her cheek. She thought the gesture was sweet but she wanted to teach him a lesson so he knew that last night couldn't repeat itself.

"You know how sorry I am. I would never intentionally hurt you," he explained, shaking his head. "There's just so much going on and sometimes I feel like I'm losing control." He walked closer to her and picked up her chin so she could look him in the eyes.

"I just want you to talk to me when you're upset. I don't like it when you're drunk." She stared him in the eye and pouted. "You really scared me." She felt that his apology was genuine and that it really wouldn't happen again.

"That's the last thing I want to do. My job is to protect you and love you and I swear I'm trying." He put the flowers down and wrapped his hands around her waist.

"Please forgive me, baby. I love you." He pulled her in closer to him and planted kisses on her forehead.

"Promise me that you'll talk to me about the things you're dealing with and not let a bottle be your first resort." She looked up at him with puppy dog eyes.

"I promise." He leaned in and began to kiss her.

"All done!" Kacey ran into the kitchen in her rainbow-colored tights and an Elsa shirt, startling them both.

"Bear, you got your sense of style from your Lele," he chuckled. "Let's eat," he said, kissing Leah on the cheek twice more.
