Cruelty

"He wh-what?"

"We can't be sure that it was him-" Marley tries to ease her mind.

"The hell we can't. Marley don't sugarcoat anything for me. It doesn't help me think straight," Leah requests.

William takes a deep breath and wipes the sweat from his face. He's livid. After all Jonah had done, it seems his cruelty has no end. How could he ever say he loved her and still be doing these things? It's puzzling.

"Leah, I'm sorry but we need to stay calm," Marley tries to relax her. She scoffs and wipes a tear.

"We? This isn't happening to we. He isn't threatening or trying to kill us. This is happening to me. Me and a 5 year old who has been traumatized enough. I can't keep doing this," she bursts into tears.

Marley takes a step back. She knows Leah's words aren't to be taken to heart but she's at a loss for words. She doesn't know how else to help.

She turns to William for assistance. He hasn't said a word since the doctor broke the news.

"Will," Marley calls quietly. He lets out the large breath he has been holding.

He feels as though the anger he now has built inside him will be unleashed on the wrong person if he opens his mouth. Leah sobbing uncontrollably on top of that will surely drive him insane.

He parts his lips to say something but before he does, he turns and exits the room.

He exits the room and heads into the hall. He walks aimlessly through the halls, leaving Marley to deal with the mess Jonah has now made.

It's not like he can be arrested off of just a say so. They need evidence. This means Jonah is still out there. Out there and able to get close to Leah or Kacey any chance he gets.

He walks until he reaches the front doors. The fresh air hits him but it's almost as if it does nothing. He still feels like he's suffocating.

He's in love with Leah. Madly in love.

But he can't seem to stop Jonah from hurting her. He feels useless. The woman he loves almost died and the man who tried to do it is still out there.

A thought enters his mind and before he can even think it over, his feet move swiftly beneath him. He enters the car and drives off, flooring the gas.

Marley watches the door, hoping William will enter at any moment. Leah stopped crying the minute the door closed. She too was watching it attentively.

"Marley...where did he go?" Leah asks frantically. Although he hadn't said a word, Leah could see the map of the plan through his eyes.

He was going to do something he would surely regret.

"I'll call him. I'm sure he just went outside," Marley responds. She pulls her phone from her purse and dials Will's number.

He doesn't answer. He doesn't answer the second or third ring. Marley and Leah both become uneasy. William doesn't have much of a temper but he's a very passionate person.

"I don't want him to- He can't. Marley someone has to get him," Leah pleads. By the end of her plea, Kacey fills the room with her quiet purs as she wakes from her nap.

Leah quickly wipes her tears before caressing Kacey's head. Kacey looks up and immediately frowns. She knows when Leah has been crying. Tears or not.

"Le-" she goes to acknowledge the fear in Leah's eyes.

"Kacey, you want to go see Grammy? She's right upstairs, Baby. I'm sure she's dying to see you," she says, changing the subject. She knows that Kacey's mind will never wonder once it's set on her grandma.

"Yup," she exclaims. Marley automatically sets her stuff down, knowing she'll be the one who needs to take her.

Marley takes a happy Kacey into her arms. She squirms from how excited she is. Before Marley can walk away, Kacey reaches for Leah once more.

She climbs out of her arms before kissing Leah's cheek. "I love you, Mommy. Don't be sad. I'm coming right back," she says sweetly.

It warms Leah's heart. She almost forgets about the situation at hand. Kacey rarely called her that. Each time she did, it shifted something in Leah.

She never asked to be called that and tried her hardest not to make a big deal when Kacey said it. She didn't want her to feel like she always had to say it because Leah loved hearing it. She only wanted her to say it when she was comfortable.

"I love you so much more, my Baby Bear. So so much," she replied hugging Kacey. She patted her head and Kacey looked at her smiling.

"Go with Marley, okay? I'll see you in a minute, Baby," she said and Kacey nodded. She jumped out the bed and grabbed Marleys hand. They exited the room and Leah let go of a heavy breath.

Hurt and scared was an understatement. Again, the question invaded her mind of how she use to love this man. She used to love him and she used to trust him. Entirely.

Now his intentions have completely shifted. Her entire life has too.

She picks up her phone and dials Will's number again. He doesn't answer. She feels the anxiety fill her body more and more.

She dials again and decides to leave a voicemail.

"Will...um...I don't know where you went but I don't want you to do anything stupid. I would never forgive myself. Please, just come back here. Don't do something you'll regret on my behalf. You have you own life and family to think about. I need you to come back. Please," she requests.

Will watches as the notifications continue to decorate his phone screen. He watches and has no intentions of responding.

He already knows what's being asked of him. He's sure Leah and Marley can guess what he plans on doing. He's not backing down.

He drove until he was met with a small house. He took a deep breath and looked at his ringing phone. Still deciding against answering.

However, he did choose to listen to the voice mail.

"Will...um...I don't know where you went but I don't want you to do anything stupid. I would never forgive myself. Please, just come back here. Don't do something you'll regret on my behalf. You have you own life and family to think about. I need you to come back. Please,"

The sweetness of her voice calms him for a second before he recognizes the fear also laced within it. He drops the phone and exits the car.

The night is dark and cool. William can only resonate with one is those feelings.

He bangs on the door, not giving a second for someone to answer. He bangs and bangs until the door unlocks. Once it does, Will pushes it open, sending Jonah back against a wall...

Leah finished getting dressed, still dialing Williams number. He still won't answer and sigh each second, her anxiety builds.

She slips through the door and heads out to the Uber waiting for her. She needs to get to Will and she knows exactly where to find him.
