Chapter Two
It was nearing a week since Sadie had auditioned for the role in HELP!. She hadn't heard a thing from Richard Lester and was beginning to give up all hope.
Sadie would just sit by the telephone,chain-smoking day after day, waiting for some kind of answer. She was depressed. The reason she moved to England, was to get away from everything in the states. Start fresh. Looks like that's not going to happen any time at all!
Patsy was starting to really worry about her younger sister's well-being. "You can't just sit around moping just because someone didn't call you back. You need to go out there- find other jobs. Pretty soon somebody will call you or at the very least- send you a letter!" Sadie looked straight ahead at the black and white photo of herself and her sister, hanging in a black frame on the wall. They were both kids-Sadie ten and Patsy thirteen, making funny faces at the camera.
She heard nothing her sister said.It was as if she was talking to a brick wall.
Just as Patsy was about to open her mouth, the shrill of the telephone shut her up.
"Hello?" Sadie answered, twirling the phone cord around her left pinky finger. An unlit Marlboro in-between her right index and middle fingers.
All said and done, Sadie now had a proud grin on her face. "I-I got a part in the film! It's not the female lead, but it's still a role!" She beamed, jumping up and down with joy like a child.
"That is fantastic news, alright!" Patsy smiled a relieved smile and embraced her sister into a big hug. "When do you start filming?"
"In about two weeks. We leave for the Bahamas, the twenty-second of February. I was told Malcolm Evans and Neil Aspinall- roadies and personal assistants to The Beatles, will pick me up at 8 o'clock sharp."
"Wait, the Bahamas? I don't know how I feel about this!" Letting go of her sister, Patsy suddenly started to panic. Eyes filled with worry.
"I know what you're thinking, sis." Sadie began, lighting up her unlit cigarette still shoved between her fingers. She inhaled deeply. "I'm going to be in the Bahamas with a bunch of horny guys for a few weeks.Who knows what they'll try on me? Don't worry about me! I'm not going to be the only girl there.I have my morals, anyway. I'm not ready to be with someone quite yet, especially after the fucking hell I went through almost two years ago!" She exhaled the smoke through her nostrils, exasperated.
Patsy let out a loud defeated sigh.
Sadie grinned at her sister, taking another puff of the cigarette.
"I just don't want to see you come back knocked up-especially by a Beatle!" Sadie threw her head back, snorting. "It's not funny. I'm fucking serious, Sarah!"
Sadie stopped snorting and grew serious. She knew her sister meant business when she called her by her real name! "Sorry" She mumbled, stubbing the half-cigarette into the ashtray on the wooden table next to the couch.
___
The next two weeks flew by for both sisters. February twenty-second had finally come! Promptly at eight o'clock, the doorbell rang at the Livingston residence. "I'll get it. Finish getting everything together, Sade." Her sister offered, walking toward the front door. She quickly opened the heavy wooden door and wrapped her green bathrobe tighter around her tall, lanky frame. Hell, it's fucking freezing out!
"Hello, you must be Malcolm and Neil. Come on in out of this freezing cold." Patsy smiled opening the door wider for the two men-one a giant of six-foot-six and the other about five-foot-ten to step inside the living room.
"Thank you." Both Mal and Neil smiled.
Sadie trudged out of her bedroom, two large dark blue suitcases in both hands and a small bag with toiletries slung on her right shoulder. "Let us help." Neil and Mal ran over and relieved Sadie of the heavy bags. She nodded and smiled, appreciatively.
Both sisters said their tearful farewells for the time being. Sadie ran to the heated Rolls Royce where Neil stood holding the back drivers side door open for her. She quickly sat down on the heated seat (behind Mal, who was driving),sighed and leaned her head back on the black head rest. "Everything alright,Sarah?" Mal asked, adjusting his mirror. Neil sat down in the front passenger side by now.
"Yes. I'm just a bit nervous." She smiled, picking at her long nails.
"Understandable, luv." Mal asked curiously adjusting the gear from 'park' to 'first gear' and drove toward the airport.
Sadie chatted with Mal and Neil about The Beatles, the film, and the fans. "Now Sarah, you may want to cover your ears and stay by me. Neil hear will fetch your luggage and bring it with." Mal added, pulling into the airport parking lot. Sadie listened attentively at the taller man's instructions. "These crazed-fans will do ANYTHING when it comes to women (such as herself)remotely associated to the boys! They're VERY possessive!"
Sadie audibly gulped and unbuckled her seat belt.
Mal was the first to open his door and quickly hop out. He opened the back door for her and she quickly stood up and got out. The screams and cries of the female fans could be heard over in the next country, that's how insanely loud it was!
Neil hopped out last. He popped open the boot and gathered Sadie's luggage.
The giant held her close as they picked up their pace toward the inside of the airport. Girls caught sight of Sadie and began assuming the worst;calling her every nasty name in the book! She wanted to deck these young, crazy girls because they had NO clue about her life! Being too much of a lady, she rolled it of the shoulders;making it to the airport door just in time!
Everything was taken care of and Sadie was handed her ticket to board the Boeing 707 with The Beatles as well as others. Taking an isle seat near the back, she relaxed and closed her dark brown eyes. Sadie didn't hear anyone boarding the plane or if they sat remotely close to her. She didn't even hear the pilot announcing over the loud speaker, they were departing for the Bahamas. That is until...
