Chapter: 20
The smell of rot was the first thing that hit his beak, being a vulturian this would normally make his mouth water. But is wasn't the heavenly rancid aroma of rotting flesh. More like the pungent stench of rotting vegetation.
He shook his feathers, as a shiver surged through his apian frame. He opened his eyes to reveal a purplish sky with grey clouds. Everything, even the air has a moistness to it. His hearing was never very good, but he did discern the sound of laughter in his proximity. The worst kind of laughter, children's cackling.
His feathers began to itch in response. Chorda sat upright, to see the two troublesome children engaging in play. The boy was crawling on the ground. Making odd noises, the girl was standing atop a large green mushroom. She covered her upper lip with moss and wore a leaf on her head like a hat.
She shouted in between giggles, in a terrible Italian accent. "Go-a away Koopa!", as she threw projectiles at the boy. One landing squarely on the top of his head.
The boy flopped onto his back kicking his arms and legs into the air. Another projectile hit him in the stomach. He yelped, jumped to his feet and yelled, "don't throw them so hard! When do I get to play Mario?!"
The girl chided in response , " how can you be Mario, you can't even throw straight"
His manhood now being challenged, he yelled back, "yes I can!!" He scooped up a handful of brackish mud and let it fly.
Off target of course, straight into the unprotected face of Advisor Chorda. "Stop it!! Ggwwaaak Gwaakk you Insolent Gwaaaaakk!!! Children", the detritus flying from his beak in anger.
His two tiny tormentors giggled uncontrollably now, but even more troubling was the other sound. A loud reptilian screech accompanied by the trembling of the mud beneath his tail feathers.
