(18) The explosion was extremely violent, Maurice felt as though he was thrusted forward 100s of metres. He was hurtling through darkness until his body impacted something hard and unyielding. 

All the wind was knocked out of him, he laid for several minutes unable to focus his vision. The light was very dim, but it appeared to be a twinkling all around him. Like sunlight off of new fallen snow. When his eyes adjusted to the dimness, he made out the shape of a figure 50 meters from him.

"Bai!" He called out, but no response, painfully he arose and shambled his broken body towards the still figure. A feeling of dread impeded his thoughts assuming the worst happened to his wife and unborn child. 

As he made his way, more details revealed themselves. Not Bai, one of the Faunee, she appeared to be badly burned, her still smoking fur was almost all singed off. 

But she was breathing faintly, taking a quick look around, there didn't appear to be anybody else in their vicinity. Where did everyone else go? 

Maurice used the light from his cell phone to give him a better perspective of his surroundings.

 They were in a large cavern, completely covered from floor to ceiling with shimmering crystals. He gently picked up the girl and carried her to a large pool of water that dripped continuously from the roof. He rested her antlered head on his lap and decided what he should do next.
