Chapter 3
Ellie stood at the counter, in her apron. Her eyes drooped tiredly, as she tried her best to stay awake. She rested her chin on her hand, and almost immediately fell asleep.
" ....El-......." Someone's voice echoed in her head.
" ...Miss Williams...." The voice was louder and clearer.
" Elizabeth!" She jolted right up and pulled her hair back.
" Yes, Sir!" She shakily said, wiping her eyes.
She looked up at the tall, thin, middle-aged man, who stood with his arms crossed. His hollow cheeks caving into his face, exaggerating his cheekbones. With his bright, curly, red hair contrasted with his weary face, as he looked at her through his thick frames. The man sighed.
" This is the fifth time I caught you snoozing! Please... Get more sleep and don't do it again. Or else, I'm gonna have to let you go." Her manager told her.
" Of course. Won't happen again, Harold."
" Hope so. I would hate to lose such a hard working employee." He said as he took out a rag and a small pail of soapy water. " Now, will the hard working employee go wash the windows?" Harold told her, handing her the things.
-------
Ellie scrubbed the glass, then wiped with a dry cloth. She repeatedly did this until she was satisfied with a section of the glass. She was standing up to wash another section of the glass, when all of a sudden, she accidentally bumped into a stranger, spilling the soap onto both of them.
" I'm so sorry!" She gasped.
The young man just chuckled and shook his head." Ahh... It's alright. Definitely not the first." He smiled, as he watched her do her best to clean up his jacket.
" Come inside. I'll give it a proper cleaning." She led him inside the shop and told him to wait at the counter.
The man stood there and looked around. He admired the neat placement of objects, all the shelves were lined up straight, and dust seemed to not exist in the store.
" Here it is! Gimme your coat." She told him, as she came from the back.
He took it off and handed it to her, watching her dab the cloth into a special solution that seemed to be getting the green stain out of the coat. He looked at her face and her eyes as they focused on getting the job done. She looked up at him weird.
" Stop it." She frowned.
" Stop what?" He American accent questioned.
" Staring at me. It's a bit weird." She replied.
" It not my fault. You're so pretty to watch." He smiled, resting his cheek on his hand.
" Heyy..." She smirked." Enough of that flirting."
" Why, limey? Have a boyfriend or something?"
" In a matter of fact, I do!" She nodded her head, laughing a bit." And please don't call me ' limey'."
" Well that's what you are, aren't you? You're from England."
" Yes, I am from England. Liverpool to be exact."
" Still makes you a limey." He said.
Ellie rolled her eyes and blew on the jacket, as she continued scrubbing.
The American boy held his hand out and smiled a bright, white, Hollywood, smile. His dimples dipped into his cheeks, his eyes sparkled a bright blue, and his combed back hair shined perfectly under the shitty lighting.
" The names, David. David Kingsley. A pleasure to meet you." He charmingly grinned.
Ellie could see the obvious smizing and certain lip formation. This was something she'd seen Paul do every timed he'd flirt. Only except, Paul knew what he was doing.
" And you back, Mr. Kingsley." She said, taking his hand slowly.
" Please, call me David. And what's your name, angel face?" He asked.
" Elizabeth Williams."
The boy placed his other hand around her hand, and smiled kindly." You have such a pretty name, Elizabeth. It's definitely much prettier then what I called you before."
" Thanks..." She pulled her hand out of his, and went to the back room to put away the things." Alright, David. Your coat is, well, better than it was before. Once it dries, it should be nearly invisible." She sighed, handing the cost over the counter.
" Babe, you're the best." He said, taking it, putting it on almost immediately.
" No problem, David." She smiled lightly.
As David was about to leave, he chuckled." You know... I can't help how much I love it when you say my name."
" Really?" Ellie smirked.
" Yeah." David said, moving closer." Can you say it again before I go?"
" Yes, David." She said, emphasizing his name sarcastically.
The American boy held his chest and sighed. Walking to the door, he waved at her and smiled. Elizabeth rolled her eyes and waved back.
As he walked down the sidewalk, Ellie watched, almost dazed by how openly flirtatious he was, even after she told him she had a boyfriend. She shook her head and went to the back, to grab some more window cleaner. She quickly went back outside and continued cleaning.
--------
Ellie had returned home and drowned when she saw that the boys had left.
She went into the kitchen, and found Klaus, drinking coffee at the table.
" Hi, babe." He stood up and kissed her cheek.
" Hi. Um, where'd the boys go?" She asked, placing her purse on the table.
" Oh, they went back to their hotel. Astrid is with them, taking photos I assume."
" Oh. Why aren't you with them? They are your friends, after all." She pointed out.
" Yeah. But I knew you'd come home, and I didn't want to leave you alone." He smiled, taking her coat off.
" Aww. That's sweet of you. Thanks, baby." She kissed his cheek.
Klaus hung her coat and sat her down. He pulled out a cup and started reheating the coffee. He took out a loaf of bread and sliced her a nice piece. Ellie looked at a news article that Klaus had been reading and pulled it towards her.
The four boys' faces were plastered on the front page, smiling and all. She chuckled and shook her head. While spreading butter on the slice, Klaus looked at what she was laughing at and looked at her funny.
" What? Do you find their faces hysterical?"
" Maybe. It's that they look like little school boys! Their faces look so innocent." She laughed.
Klaus had a crooked smile and continued preparing her coffee. She threw the paper back in its place and looked at the back of Klaus. She smiled and stood up.
Standing behind him, she wrapped her arms around his stomach and rested her head on his back. Klaus smiled as he stirred in three spoonfuls of sugar. He asked her," black or with cream?"
" Cream, please." Her muffled voice answered as she hid her face in his back.
He turned around and looked at her tired face. She smiled at him, arms still wrapped around him. Klaus leaned against the counter and told her to open her mouth. She opened her mouth, which resulted in him, feeding her the slice.
She opened her mouth again, and he fed her. He chuckled as they kept doing this. " You're like a baby bird!" He cracked up.
" Tweet! tweet!" She tweeted jokingly, with her mouth full. Klaus took her cup of coffee and held the cup for her while she sipped. She took the cup and sat down at the table. She sighed and closed her eyes.
" Long day?" He asked
" Nah... It was just strange." She answered.
" What happened?" He sat down next to her and held her hand.
" It was nothing, really. I was just this customer." She shook her head.
" Oh come on. Spill the beans." He smiled, rubbing her back.
She rolled her eyes and placed her hands on his chest." Promise not to get upset or anything?"
" Yes! Just tell me."
" Well...."
-----
" What??? I swear, if I was there, I would've-"
" Klaus! You promised!"
" Well! If another man flirts with my woman, he surely won't leave with a clean coat!"
" This Is why I didn't want to tell you! I knew that you'd get mad!"
"Well, yeah! I am mad! Some other shit-head shouldn't be talking to my girl like that!" Klaus's was now standing up, face red with anger and jealousy. " I'm going."
" Where!"
" Out!"
" Klaus! You come back here! You here me?!"
