The Save File

"Focus, Sans. Let your magic well up in you, focus on your target, and when you think you are about to burst, let go and let the blaster do the rest." Gaster instructed, and Sans tried. He tried to hold all his magic to the surface, feeling the blaster form - not for the first time - above him. He could hear it starting to whine as he tried to gather up more magic. It was very uncomfortable, though, and his arms were shaking with the effort of pulling on so much magic at once. Sans gasped and lost his hold - not for the first time - when somebody knocked on the training room door. Gaster scowled at the door, upset that someone dared to interrupt Sans' progress when he was so close to actually getting one to fire. It had taken three days for him not to get distracted by the initial sound of a Gaster Blaster and lose focus. "You better have a good reason for interrupting my test." Gaster snapped at the door. Dr. Muzc came in with a jar. Inside, it was a bright blue soul. "The Captain got the human this morning. The King had the soul sent straight here.

Sans hadn't even known there was a fallen human. Well, that was wrong. Gaster had insisted there was no fallen human, but staring at the soul, Sans knew he'd been lied to - no, not even that. Looking at Dr. Gaster, it was more like the truth had been withheld from him. But why? Why insist there was no human, then refrain from telling him when one did fall? And how did he know? It wasn't a secret to Sans that things had been different since the zap. So it was the determination, then? Or the C.O.R.E energy? Gaster must've told Muzc what to do because Gaster's attention snapped him out of his thoughts, and the soul was gone. "Sans? Are you listening? We are running tests on the new soul immediately. I need you to get ready for screening the soul for determination." Sans started to walk out, knowing that Gaster wouldn't be answering any questions now. Not while he had more determination to play with, so to speak. "uh... yeah, doc, can do..." Sans would have to drill him later on why he withheld information. For now, they had a soul to test.

After testing durability, compatibility, and what the trait in question could do, they ran the Integrity soul through the DT Extraction machine. Compared to the Justic and Perseverance traits, Integrity was low on the DT scale, but it wasn't the lowest. It seemed that Patience was, at least from what they'd seen. It was either the hardest to extract or it had the lowest amount of determination in its makeup. Gaster went with the latter. Perseverance, though, had the highest concentration of the four souls. It could probably have DT extracted from it for the next week without putting a crack in it. That was why Gaster decided to retest the Perseverance soul again. All of Gaster's assistants were present for testing. Gaster wanted to introduce the soul to its own determination and see if the determination would be accepted back in after so long, or rejected as a foreign object and produce a new result, so while Tika monitored the souls condition and Felidae placed the nodes on the soul, Muzc and Vexta watched on with clipboards at the ready. Sans was cleaning the spot where Gaster would be injecting the DT when the Royal Scientist came over. "Let us see what happens..."

There was no reaction upon initial injection, and that was what Sans started to write down before he felt a noticeable shift in the soul, one that Tika immediately called out on the screens. The soul glowed brighter, Sans eyelights shrunk as strings of purple and gold created something all too familiar to his dreams. A four point star and two buttons. LOAD and RESET. Sans looked around the others... who didn't seem to see what he was seeing. Vexta and Muzc were busy scribbling on their clipboards while Tika was reading the screen. Sans couldn't seem to hear a single word coming out of her mouth. Felidae was playing with his paws nervously as he stared at the soul, but he wasn't freaking out like he usually would when seeing something new like this. Gaster- Gaster's pupils were pinpricks as he approached the soul and buttons in awe. "It is the star..." Sans approached it with him, but cautiously. "y-you've seen it, too?" Sans asked, and Gaster looked at him, then the star, in surprise. "Yes... in my dreams. But I never thought it was real..." Gaster reached for the button curiously when Tika's voice finally broke through the soundless barrier. "THE SOUL IS DESTABILIZING!"

⚫️⚫️⚫️

The soul seemed to burst, and everyone was thrown back. Sans blinked a few times as he tried to regain his bearings and sit up. His back hurt, and so did his skull, but it wasn't enough to lower his HP. Gaster was already approaching the considerably duller Perseverance soul, looking at any and all physical changes it had went though, after the test. "d-doc..." Sans groaned as he pushed himself up. "shouldn't seeing if everyone is ok be your first priority...?" He asked as he slowly shuffled over to Felidae, who was closest to him. "I..." Gaster looked around the room from his hyperfocus on the soul. "I suppose you're right. I was so excited it bypassed my mind. Magic hands took the clipboard as he went to check on Tika, who was closest to him. Sans started to shake the feline monster who groaned and started to stir. Then he went to wake Muzc and Vexta. "L-let's not do that again... I have a headache..." Tika complained as Gaster helped her sit up. Sans doubted Gaster was going to let this go so soon, though.
