"Don't you need a license to be that ugly?!" A girl whispered, not so quietly, as I walked down the school corridor.
"That outfit would be perfect for Goodwill. If she knows what's good for her, she will burn it down" Another one said.
"OMG! I bought that exact same sweater that she's wearing" I looked up and saw that this time, it was Alison. I rolled my eyes at her and carried on walking.
The popular girl from my math's class. The one that's so stupid, she can't even do things a five year old can easily do.
She's actually quite nice, she just doesn't like me. Yeah I know, that's so shocking, right? I mean, have you seen me? How can someone not like me? I am the most amazing person on Earth.
But it seems like Alison wasn't quite done yet. She looked at my sweater one more time then turned to her friend and said 'for my dog'.
People started laughing. They'd point at me laugh for about thirty seconds then stop. Two seconds later, they'd look at me and start laughing again.
I don't even get what was so funny. Wow, Alison told the whole school that her dog has the same sweater I'm wearing, isn't that like so funny(!)?
I rolled my eyes again at them then walked away. Their laughs could be heard a mile away, but I didn't care. I was used to be being humiliated by Alison, it's like a daily thing she does. I've never tried to stop her because I honestly don't care what she says or thinks. I don't care what all the other students think. I don't care what anyone thinks. I love myself and no one can ever change that.
"Ok class, since I'm really tired today, we'll just be watching a few videos about rocks until the bell goes" Some people cheered and others groaned.
I just stayed silent. I really don't care about Chemistry.
This sounds really weird, but while I was watching the video that was playing on the big projecter at the front of the class, I saw a weird looking rock that really reminded me of Alison.
Yeah I know, I'm a bit strange. Get used to it.
You see, Alison and I, go quite a while back. I've known her for nearly all my life. When I was born, my parents and I lived in this town for a few years. When my mom passed away, my dad decided that it would be good for everyone if we moved. So that's what we did. I came home once only to find everything in the house packed. My dad told me to pack my bag and I did. I thought that we were going on a trip or something and when be back sooner.
But that's not what happened.
We moved to a town that I knew nothing about and lived there for a few years. I went to the first years of elementary school there. I have missed some school years because my family couldn't afford the prices of the schools back then. Luckily, now most schools are free and the only thing you gave to pay for is school dinners, which is something I don't to need to worry about.
My dad told me we were moving back when I was about five or six years old. I wish we'd stayed there. In that town, some people were actually nice to me, unlike everyone here who seems to hate me.
When I first joined this school, my number one goal was to be liked by everyone. To be popular.
I was so stupid back then. There were other things I should've been thinking about, like trying to mend my relationship with my father.
I remember the first day of school like it happened yesterday.
(Flashback)
At lunch time Alison invited me to sit at a table with her and some of her 'closest friends', but I'd rather just go with the name 'minions'.
It was so weird how she's only in grade seven but everyone loved her and worshipped her already.
What did they even see in her?
The North Hampton School is set up like the food court at the mall, but obviously it's bigger and has a better variety of food.
Although I as was trying my best to be nice and friendly, Alison was getting on my last nerves. That girl is so annoying, she took a selfie every like, two minutes.
While I went up to get my lunch, she asked me to go get hers as well since there was 'no point of both of us going up and wasting time'. So I agreed because I didn't want to cause any drama. And for once what she actually said made sense.
But then she asked me to dump her lunch tray since I was going up to dump my lunch tray. And again I agreed because I had a feeling that if I didn't do what she asks me too, she would turn the whole school against me!
And finally, she asked me to carry her books for her because I was carrying mine. She said her arms were really tired but she just stood there and started taking selfies every two seconds. Like, if my arms were actually tired, I'd let them rest, I wouldn't go taking selfies would I? I swear that girl has serious issues.
But then I finally lost it. I stood up and I yelled at her in front of the whole cafeteria.
"Listen Alison! I have to go to the toilet! So while I'm there, would you like me to pee and poo for you too?!"
Yeah, it's sad to say that that day didn't end very well. But it wasn't my fault, I mean did you see what she did? She was such a drama queen. But she's changed since then.
We all have.
The students who were once nice to ne when we were younger now hate me and don't even spare me a glance.
The teachers who were once sympathetic to me because they knew about my mother are now horrible and harsh to me. They tell me sometimes, that what happened to my mom was 'ages ago' and it's definitely time now to 'get over it'.
Everyone and everything has changed.
For example, boys seem to like the girls who laugh at anything. Who want to move in with them before the second date. And unfortunately, girls seem to like the boys who don't appreciate all the money and the time that it takes.
Where do all the good people go to hideaway? I'm just a lonely girl, who needs a little company. I've been looking high and low. Sometimes wondering what it'd feel like if someone actually likes me now.
Boys seem to like the girls who like to kiss and tell. Talking them up about the things they do so well. But I'd rather find a man who is down for the chase, putting in the time that it takes.
"Hey"
I looked back surprised that someone was actually talking to me. It was the boy from yesterday's Maths class.
"Oh hi....uh, what's your name?"
"Evan"
"Oh, hi Evan"
"Hello..." This was getting awkward and weird.
"Well, I'm just going to sit over there" I pointed towards the seat next to the window.
He looked kind of disappointed and I felt bad.
"Come and sit by me?"
My question caught him off guard. He tried to hide is excitement but failed. He literally looked like he was about to do a happy dance.
I giggled at him and smiled, he blushed and turned away. Yay, for once in my life, I made somebody blush.
We sat down at our desks and talked until the teacher came in. I hate how students actually make an effort to get to class on time everyday and we show up late once, teachers go mad, but then they think it's perfectly fine to waltz into their class whenever they feel like.
Like where is the logic in that?
The teacher said hello to everyone then started talking about some project that we had to do. She said that we had to work in pairs and had just over a month to finish it.
"This project will add up to 40% of your end your results"
40%? Whaaat?? There is no way I'd get over 10%. Especially when no one would want to pair up with me.
I sighed but then felt something tap me on the shoulder. I turned to my right and saw that it was Evan.
"Uh, can I a-ask you something?"
"Yeah sure" I shrugged.
He blushed even more.
"Uh, do you want t-to pair up with m-me? I mean only if you want to, you definitely don't have to if you don't want to"
"Evan, I'd-"
"Yeah you're right, why would anyone want to go with me?"
"No, what I wanted to-" I was interrupted again.
"I'm sorry for asking in the first place"
I rolled my eyes at his interruptions and punched him.
"Oww, what was that for?" He whined as he rubbed his arm.
"1. That was for interrupting me. And 2. What I wanted to say was that I'd love to be partners with you"
"Really you would?" You could see the shock on his face.
"Yeah"
"Wow, that's really-"
"Evan"
He stopped and looked at me.
"Please shut up. Even though you're cute, that doesn't mean you can ramble all the time"
"You think I'm cute?"
"You're flipping adorable"
It's true. He's like a big, human sized cuddly bear.
He blushed so hard that he looked like a tomato. When he realized that I was staring at him, he blushed again then looked away.
Wow, this guy sure does blush a lot.
But I think I've just made a new friend.
I smiled and waited patiently till the end of class.
