02: He Is So Cute!
Gif: Logan Lerman as Luke Cooper

"So I heard that there's a new boy," Michelle, my close friend, said.
I couldn't exactly call her a best friend yet because we've only been friends for a year.
"Yeah," I sighed out.
"How does he look like?" she asked. "The girls won't shut up about him in the hallways."
"He has two eyes, one nose, one mouth," I deadpanned.
She rolled her brown eyes at me. "Seriously, Anna."
"That's the truth," I joked.
"I wanted to ask you a question this morning," Nate suddenly appeared and took a bite of his sandwich. "Why was your shirt quite wet when you entered class?"
"Is it really that noticeable?" I slowly groaned.
"Well, kind of," he shrugged.
"Guess why," I said, but when he opened his mouth I directly answered. "The new guy, what was his name again?"
"Luke," Michelle replied and I raised my eyebrow. "What? I told you the girls wouldn't shut up about him."
"Right," I said rather sarcastically. "Luke spilled water onto my shirt."
"Oh," Nate replied nonchalantly and continued eating his sandwich.
"That's so sweet!" exclaimed Michelle. "Usually it happens in teen fictions that a boy accidentally bumps onto a girl, and they directly fall in love at first sight."
After she said that, Nate shot her a disgusted look.
"Ew, Chelle," I said, slightly pushing her off her chair. "That is in teen fictions. This is the real world that we're talking about. How is it 'so sweet?' Plus, he is really annoying and cocky. He never stops smirking."
"Whatever," she replied before winking. "We'll just see later."
"Anyways, how was your trip to Mexico?" I asked her, trying to change the topic.
During the winter break, Michelle and her mom went to her mom's hometown, in Mexico, while Nate and I stayed in town.
"It was alright," she replied. "It was quite boring without you actually. My cousins were all rather ignorant."
"Hey, how about me?" Nate put on a fake pout.
"You look horrible," Michelle instead replied. "Oh right, missed you too."
Nate flipped his ring finger at Michelle, and she just casually laughed and rolled her eyes.
I continued eating my sandwich and suddenly Michelle whispered, "Which one is the Luke guy?"
I turned around to see him with other several students sitting on the other side of the cafeteria.
Our school doesn't really have groups like other stereotypical schools, even though there are actually mean girls here, but they're not too stereotypically extreme. So well this school is just a normal school. "That one with the brown hair."
"Oh my gosh! He is so cute!" Michelle exclaimed rather loudly, which had gained attention from people, and also from Luke himself. "I mean, look at him, Anna! Isn't this dog so cute?"
"No, it's not," I said, wrinkling my nose, pretending to look at her phone. I turned back to see Luke smirking at our direction. Whatever. "How can you think he's cute? He is very unattractive."
"That was such a good save," Michelle sighed, wiping her non-existent sweat from her forehead.
"I have no idea why am I friends with you both," Nate shook his head as soon as he was done laughing.
"Because we are cool," I shrugged and continued eating the almost finished sandwich, causing Michelle and Nate both erupt in laughter.
▬▬▬▬▬▬▬
"Bye, Anna," Michelle said as we exit our last class. "Good luck in detention."
"Yeah, have fun," Nate chuckled.
"Thanks guys," I said nonchalantly. "Bye."
I headed to the detention room. When I entered, I have expected my brother to be there, and he also got detention.
"Hello," he said. "Thanks for the detention. How many minutes did you get?"
"You're always welcome. If you want, I'll get us into detention everyday," I said jokingly, sticking my tongue out. "20, you?"
"Same," he sighed. "I didn't even do anything. It's your fault."
"It's not my fault that we live in one house, or that we're related," I shrugged.
After that, we didn't really talk to each other and the room was quiet. There were only like four students plus Ashton and I in this room, and the teacher is busy doing something on his laptop.
He assigned Ashton and I to write, "I will not come late to school again," 20 times.
What is the point of writing that all over again? I mean, after we write down our punishment, the teacher will probably sign the paper and throw it away after that. That's such a waste of energy, pencil, and paper.
"Hey, did you tell Mom that we're in detention?" I asked as soon as we were done writing.
"Yes, I did," he replied.
"Then what did she say?"
"She just laughed and said 'ok,'" he said as he laughed.
My mom, I tell you.
"Well, I expected her to laugh because it's my fault anyways, and it's only 20 minutes. If I fail or I get detention for something horrible, she'll probably rage," I told him, joining the laughter.
"Hey, I forgot my book on the locker," he suddenly told me. "Just go to the parking lot first. I'll catch up."
"Sure," I said, and he ran off.
I passed the empty hallway and finally arrived at the entrance and exit of the school.
I scanned all over the parking lot for my mom's familiar black 2015 Honda CRV, but I didn't spot any.
I sat down on the stairs in front of the school, and soon someone joined me.
"You're still here?" someone asked, which made me slightly jump.
I turn around to see the same cocky boy who made me late.
"I have detention, remember?" I said. "Thanks to you."
"Right," he smirked. "You were already late when you arrived, so it's not entirely my fault."
I just rolled my eyes.
We sat in silence for a few seconds after that. It wasn't that awkward.
"So, why are you still here?" I questioned, trying to break the silence. "You didn't get into any trouble right?"
"Well, I'm-" he started, but he was interrupted by Ashton.
"Hey Anna," my brother said as a familiar looking car honked. "Our ride is here, let's go."
"Oh, right," I said, standing up. "Bye, Luke."
"Bye," he replied and gave my brother a curt nod.
▬▬▬▬▬▬▬
"Who was he?" Mom and Ashton asked in unison.
"A new student," I replied, shrugging.
"What's his name?" she asked.
"Luke."
"He is cute."
"Mom," I groaned.
"What? I'm just stating the fact," she shrugged and caused Ashton to snicker.
"Seriously," I mumbled. "He made me even late than I was supposed to be, he is really- you know what? Never mind."
She just let out a laugh.
"Can we stop to McDonald's for awhile?" I asked, trying to change the topic and I am also starving. "I'm hungry."
"Yeah, sure," she answered. "Can you please call James and ask what does he want?"
"Sure," I replied before I realised something. "Oh wait. I left my phone at home."
"Here," Ashton said, throwing his phone at me, which luckily I caught.
"Thanks," I muttered and started calling James.
▬▬▬▬▬▬▬
"Where is my Big Mac?" James said, running to me as soon as he heard the door opened.
"Hello to you too," I said sarcastically. "It's with Ashton."
He quickly bolted to our car and grabbed his burger and finished it in less than 3 minutes.
Him and his food. James may eat a lot, but his body is still fit; he plays soccer.
He has a really high metabolism, which I'm very jealous of.
Anyways, after we had finished eating, I heard some noises outside of our house.
I slowly peeked into the window to see two trucks with a big label labelled Moving In parked on a house on the right side of mine.
I guess someone had just moved in.
Being curious, I stared at the window, trying to see who were moving in.
"Hey, what are you looking at?" a voice suddenly boomed, causing me to let out a loud scream.
I turned around to see Ashton and James laughing their butt off. They were literally rolling on the floor laughing.
"What is so funny?" I questioned.
"Y-yo-your face," James replied, still laughing.
"It was p-priceless," Ashton said, wiping his tears from his eyes. "And you were literally staring at the window like a creep for approximately 4 minutes already."
"Talk about being creepy," I started. "You were also staring at me for the whole 4 minutes. I guess creepiness runs in the family?"
"I'm not a creep," James said, putting his hands up in the air, leaving the room.
"Whatever," I said for the billionth time.
"Hey, are they moving in next door?" Ashton asked, pointing to the house that I was staring at.
"Yes," I replied. "You know them?"
I looked at the window again and saw a woman who looked like she's in her early 40s, and a man with dark hair, nearly covered with gray hair, perhaps her husband, carrying boxes from the truck into the house.
"I think I've ever seen them at school," he replied, staring at the window with me. "During parents-teachers' conference."
"Oh," I said, not adverting my eyes off the window.
Call me creepy, but I have nothing to do. I finished my homework during detention. I finished writing; "I will not come late to school again," in 7 minutes.
I noticed a younger male going to the house, carrying several boxes too.
I squinted my eyes and I suddenly recognized him.
Oh my goodness, he's my new neighbor.
"Oh! Now I know who our new neighbors are," Ashton exclaimed in realization.
