Chapter 7: Heal
[Accelerator's POV]
"What is this place?" I asked myself as I walked around a pitch black room.
Everything was dark, until two two small rays of light, shining from afar appeared. I winced as my eyes adjusted to the light. When I could finally see properly, I noticed that there were two people standing under each ray. Under the first one was a girl with red hair. I couldn't see her face at all because her back was facing me. Under the second one was...me..?
There was a figure that looked like me when I was a kid...but that's impossible. I've never seen that girl before in my life. But then it hit me...Yoshikawa's words...
"A beautiful red haired girl.."
"You two were close..."
Was it true then? That I knew the dead girl? No...I don't think I could easily forget a person that possessed an ability similar to mine.
Suddenly, the lights turned on and illuminated the place where I was...I recognized it right away...
...the special ability institute.
I hated this place, I remember the experiments done to me, all the scanning, testing, poking and prodding...it nearly drove me insane. Just because I was a child error with a special ability, they put me through hell. But for some reason...I can barely remember anything that happened there aside from the experiments...could it be...that my memories were tampered with? No, it's not possible...
A scientist stood there, the red haired girl standing beside him. The scientist said something inaudible, his lips were moving but no sound was coming out of his mouth. I blinked and a different scene was before me. The one that looked like me as a child was laughing with the red haired girl. She was still facing away from me.
The kid me said something, but again, it was inaudible. The two ran off to a bush and the kid me destroyed it using vector transformation. No doubt, that was me. Seemed like the girl was doing something...she was putting it back together? I thought she was using telekenesis, but I looked closely and she was putting it back vector by vector...How? How could I have known someone like her, and forget about it so easily?
"I can liquefy the broken parts and put them back together precisely where they belong." The girl said cheerfully. "And when I turn them back into a solid, it'll be like they were never broken apart at all..."
She laughed and the child me nodded.
"It makes me happy that, even though my ability is destructive, I can still heal, even if it's just in little ways like this."
A high pitched sound broke the silence and I clutched my head as the sound rung through my ears. I had a bad feeling in my gut that something bad wad about to happen. I forced myself to look at the source of the sound, and saw the girl and the kid me being dragged away by scientists.
They fought back, but in the agonizing state they were in because of the sound, they couldn't do anything. It wasn't like they could beat them up with their tiny fists anyways. Those assholes probably did it as a last resort, I presumed. I tried to interfere, but it was like an invisible barrier was in between me and the scientists, then, they faded away.
~Mynnah's POV~
The thugs surrounded me and charged at me all at the same time. I kicked one in the face, jumped on his shoulder and landed on another guy's face. The third guy was knocked unconscious from the impact and I threw him at the other two and they fell. One guy left. I should make it in time, I've only been fighting for about five minutes, after all, but I still had to hurry.
It was nearly evening and it would take about nine minutes to get there on foot. The last guy had a knife, so I roundhouse kicked him and broke his arm while he was down and gave him a hefty rib-breaking kick while I was at it.
The hospital was just a few blocks away, anyways.
I ran as fast as I could and finally reached the hospital. The elevators were full and I had no time to wait, so I ran up the stairs as fast as I could and looked for room 203. When I finally found it, I was about to go in when bumped into a doctor who looked like...
A human Gekota?
"I came here to see your patient." I said to the frog doctor, giving a very impatient smile.
"Hm? But he's going to be taken into the operating room." The frog doctor said, and my smile got harder to keep up. I wanted to scream and yell and tear the entire building down to the ground.
The moment they operate on him he'd die.
And I sure as hell couldn't let that happen.
I hid my phone behind my back and sent a text to Haruna. In a matter of seconds after I sent the message, the frog doctor was put into a trance.
I removed the gloves I always wore and my jacket and sat beside him, setting my drawstring bag on the floor. I conjured a flurry of almost invisible micro crystals, some of them going out of control and cutting my skin. I focused all of them to form a ball the size of a baseball. I slowly pushed the ball of crystals through his forehead.
I closed my eyes and focused on controlling them. I immediately saw the activity of his brain that proved that it was still overexerting itself; trying to remove the memory erase code that Haruna implanted.
Blood started to drip from my arm and the wounds that the crystals left stung very badly, but I dismissed them, I had to save the bastard.
Cerebral activity decrease. two minutes left.
A.I.M. Diffusion deactivate. one minute and thirty seconds left
Code 3R453 deactivate. One minute left.
Vector transform and control decrease. 50 seconds left...
Code 3R453 reactivate. 30 seconds...
Vector transform and control increase. 20 seconds...
A. I. M. Diffusion reactivate. 10 seconds...
Returning cerebral activity levels back to normal.
It was a bit of a close call, if I didn't return the brain activity levels in time, it wouldn't ever go back to normal. Damn bastard nearly put the researcher's sanity on a tightrope. I'd only known Yoshikawa for a few months, but she was rather easy to read, and I'm pretty sure if he died, Yoshikawa would have a breakdown and remember the loss of that 'Hoshi' kid again.
And from my guess, only two things that would happen: either she would continue the research to avenge the one that resembled Accelerator, or stop the research due to depression and make me lose my only lead.
I'd rather not take a risk, I didn't want that opportunity to slip away. I had to get my revenge and find Akihiko.
I opened my drawstring bag and shook out it's contents on the floor. Ipicked up a bottle of rubbing alcohol, opening it, and pouring it over my wounds, gritting my teeth and enduring the pain. I picked up the ointment and put it over my wounds, picking up the ziplock bag containing a roll of gauze, medical tape, and a hefty bunch of cotton afterwards and dressing my wounds.
After putting on the last piece of tape and returning everything into the drawstring bag, I looked back at the sleeping bastard and thought: 'This is one unlucky bastard. Being cursed with that power, getting tangled into Academy City's dark side, getting shot in the head and getting his head damaged, being able to use only a part of his former power, getting tangled in my mess, and receiving yet another major hit to the brain.'
"You're really stubborn, you know? Like one of my...important memories." I said to the unconscious bastard. "Haha...I hate you for that... You're here, reminding me of him while he's missing and maybe...maybe even...
...dead."
I paused.
I didn't really want to admit it, but the thought that Akihiko may be dead and all my hard work might've been for nothing...always crossed my mind. Although I never really said it out loud until then.
"You almost put my only lead to him on a tightrope, too." I said to the bastard, trying to shake my previous thoughts off. "You really know how to piss me off."
His face seemed familiar, like I had seen him way before, a very long time ago, but I couldn't quite put my finger on it. I wondered for a bit then looked back at the pitiful bastard. I guess I did put him through all of this, so I thought, 'Why don't I fix his previous brain damage to thank the bastard for before? He's going to need the extra power when he finds out about what I did in his body.'
I put my hand on his forehead, controlling the crystals that were still inside and focused on sticking them to his brain cells, as the damaged part of his brain regenerated. Once I was done, I dispelled my crystals and put my jacket back on. I walked out of the room and placed the items that I took back on the surgery tray and faced the frog doctor again.
I walked out of the room, sending Haruna a blank message to signal that it was okay. Haruna quickly snapped the doctor out of his trance, and he started to move again with a jolt.
"Is that so doctor? Well then, I'll be off." I said to pretend that the conversation between us earlier never ended and all the things I did while he was in a trance never happened and walked away.
As expected, as soon as I was in the elevator, Accelerator regained consciousness.
