Chapter 12: Missing

(Mynnah's POV)

I sat at the farthest corner of the bleachers in the gym, watching the special ability students display their esper powers. In all honesty, I was truly, completely...bored.

I was hoping to see something new, something a little more exciting, maybe. I returned that guy's abilities to their former glory and all I wanted was a good show from him, but nope, nothing, absolutely nada. All he did was cripple a perfectly good titanium board.

Ah, how extremely boring.

I eyed the white haired idiot as walked out of the gym boredly, leaning my head on my hand.

"What's the use of returning that idiot's former capacity if he's not even going to fully use it? That's just boring." I said to myself, watching Accelerator as he disappeared from my sight. "I really thought you'd show something even just a little more interesting, I even bothered to tail you here..."

I hopped off the bleachers and walked straight out of the gym. I went unnoticed, the others were to busy to pay attention to small me scurrying away; they never even noticed that I got there before them. I guess that's one of the few perks of being only five feet tall.

I walked up the stairs to my class as slowly as possible, looking out of the window and admiring the birds twitter by, bracing myself for the immense test of patience that was about to come.

Once I got back to class, as expected, Daichi greeted me with that ever-so-kickable irritating face of his.

"Ha! You're still a level zero, aren't you?" He laughed at me.

I ignored him, he wasn't really worth my time. I sat down in my seat and started to scribble in my notebook, drawing little portraits, then suddenly, I felt a cold splash on the back of my head.

I managed to close my notebook before the contents could get wet, the plastic covering protecting the notes inside. Some laughed at me, some pitied me, but I didn't care about that. All I cared about was the cold running down my spine...

I hate the cold...I hate it...I don't want to be in the cold again...

I acted before I could control myself.

Before I knew it, I was on my feet, pinning Daichi behind his back, seething with rage. If I'd added a little more pressure, I would've broken his arm. I let go, the entire class looking at me horrified, especially Daichi.

"I...sorry." I took my things and ran out of the classroom.

I was running so fast that I ended up bumping into someone.

"Oi, watch it." The white haired bastard, just my luck.

"Sorry." I said quickly.

"What the hell happened to you?" He asked. "Did you fall into the pool during the esper examinations or something?"

"Wish I did. Still a level zero." I lied through my teeth, looking down. "Just Daichi with a water bottle."

I looked up at him and he was taking off his school jacket. He tossed it over to me and I catched it, dumbfounded.

"Wear that so you don't look like a sopping wet idiot." He said to me. "The brat told me to keep an eye on you, and it'll be shit if she goes on a ranting spree again."

"Oh, um, thanks..." I genuinely did not know how to respond to that. I owed Last Order a lot, which is actually why that bastard was still alive. She contacted me yesterday when she found out Accelerator and I were classmates, and told me to watch over him.

I never knew she'd ask the same for Accelerator, but right now, I was kinda happy about it.

He walked away, muttering something like: 'damned brat', and I went to the bathroom and wringed out my jacket and put on Accelerator's. Since he was a five-foot-eight, it was really quite long on me.

I soon went to the faculty room and told my adviser what happened and she let me go home, telling me, ranting on, more of, about how she'd have Daichi in detention today.

I exited the school and walked home, kicking small rocks on the pavement along the way and I pondered about the events of today, looking at the oversized jacket that kept me warm.

Maybe today wasn't such a terrible day, despite the esper exams and all. I kicked one rock towards the door of my house, and it...swung open. Kiyan would never be so careless. I taught him not to be.

About that 'not being such a bad day' thing, it seemed that I spoke too soon. Way too soon.

I grabbed the doorknob and fully opened it, half-expecting a Kiyan tackle, but I didn't even hear an 'Mynnah' or a 'Big sis'. The metallic reek of blood wafted through the air.

The lights were off, so I felt my way to the switch. The scenery that greeted me...was definitely what I was dreading.

There were dead people on the floor, everything was broken, and the whole house was a mess. Luckily, out neighborhood was well-spaced, so I didn't have to worry about neighbors nor people coming over, so I wouldn't have to clean up right away. But as of now, cleaning was the least of my concerns.

"Kiyan?" I said, but no one answered. "Kiyan!"

My brother's dog, Misa, ran up to me, whimpering. I walked towards the frantic pomeranian, but before I could get to her, I stepped on something wet on the carpet.

I looked down and there was a black liquid on the carpet. I knew what it was; blood. But it wasn't from a wound, it was corrupted blood, which meant...

"He used his esper power." I clicked my tongue and set my bag down on the floor. I then went to my room, opening the door to the control room inside, viewing the footage of the CCTVs I installed for Kiyan's safety.

There were eight masked men dressed in black, fighting my brother. He killed four of the men using silverware, but the remaining four men gripped both his arms and legs and he tried to break free.

He used his ability, and drove all of them insane, causing, two of them to kill themselves. He tried to run away, but he collapsed on the floor and coughed up blood that his ability corrupted, and his world of illusions faded away, slowly returning the remaining two men's sanity.

Tch, if only his damn ability didn't come with a consequence. The two remaining men took Kiyan's weakness as an opportunity and grabbed him, taking him away.

I ended the replay and conjured crystals around my hand, punching a hole through the wall. Those bastards kidnapped my brother...

I took my bag and rummaged through it, finding and grabbing my phone. I immediately called up Haruna.

"Wha--"

"Kiyan's gone!" I yelled through the phone, cutting her off.

"Geez, miss bossy pants, chill. He's in Academy city, but I don't know where, he's been blindfolded. Can't see through his eyes and he doesn't know who kidnapped him or where he is, either." Haruna said, sighing as she felt Mynnah's nervousness through her ability. "I would freak out like you, but unfortunately, I've lost my ability empathize along with my humanity. Good luck anyways."

Haruna hung up and I turned off my phone.

Once I find those bastards, I'm gonna make them wish they were never born.
