Chapter 8
Sorry, I had horrid words I had to use and I didn't update last month because it wasn't an assignment for school. I may or may not continue, depending on how much time I have over summer break and during High School.
Since Annie had arrived, she had been attacked by goblins, orcs, vampires and her own Grandmother, who was queen of the vampires. After her first day she had already seen a couple from a neighboring castle get poisoned and a crossbow bolt shot at her. Kaleb, whom Annie had originally believed to be an evil sorcerer, had gained her trust. Once Annie, Kaleb and four other guards left to go orc hunting, Annie had a rare glance at the evils of this new world. The next morning two of the guards had been slaughtered while keeping watch. The remainder of the group set off to hunt the vampire clan, the Nightstalkers, to eliminate them being a problem. Unfortunately, one of the two remaining guards was a spy and called some of Nightstalkers to capture the three and imprison them. Fortunately, Kaleb had managed to call the werewolves to aid in their escape. After sneaking past countless dangers and many guards the trio made it to the exit.
Carefully sneaking out, the threesome excessively snuck out and was then joined by jet black werewolf. Rushing away from the Nightstalkers caves, they followed the silent werewolf into the dense undergrowth of the wicked forest. After running for a few minutes away from the caves, four changed direction slightly and headed to the cliffs on the westernmost border. They wouldn't have to worry about being pursued by the vampires because the sun was hitting the undergrowth. A couple minutes later, the werewolf entered a cave in the cliff face with Annie, Kaleb, and Sammi following a few paces behind. The caves dark was dark of the inside and Annie could have sworn she heard bats flapping around. While the group waited for their night vision to adjust, the werewolf allowed the darkness to wrap around him. After the gruesome noises from the shadows, a tall, young man with piercing green eyes tinged with red stepped into the dim light. Sammi had grabbed her sword and had it pointed at the werewolf's neck, not realizing that it was their guide. Kaleb yelled at Sammi to stop, just as she was swinging the sword at his neck. The now human wolf twisted away at the last second and grabbed the sword with his bare hand forced it out of her hand.
The man then said, "Don't you know it isn't polite to try to kill allies? Besides you need to talk to Erik, the Longhaired King, right?" Kaleb, Sammi and Annie just nodded, mollified and at a loss of words for his voice was a smooth as silk, unlike the coarse rasps from the bickering werewolves from the Nightstalker's caves. Following their strange guide to the throne room, the four heard rounds of laughter bouncing around and off of the stone walls. As they rounded the bend in the cavern, they were greeted with multiple litters of small werewolves all barking and yipping. There was an elliptical table with chairs all around, and at the far side was a tall throne with an equally tall and muscular man sitting in it. Long, dirty blond hair, flowed from a gruff face with many long scars. Bulging muscles could be seen under the thin shirt, and the only thought Annie had at the time was she never wanted to be one of his enemies. Kaleb just walked right up to him and swept into a low bow and said, "It has been a while King Erik, I thank you for the help." Sammi urged Annie to bow as well, and to shut her gaping mouth, which was still hanging open.
Bowing deeply, Annie could hear all of the werewolves chuckling at her reaction. The King's commanding voice said, "You may rise, I'm not like other monarchs, no need to bow so low." As Annie rose from her position she said,"Thank you for your help with the vampires, we shall be forever in debt and exceedingly grateful for your help." At every long word she said, Annie couldn't help but to see King Erik flinch every time. She accidentally blurted out, "Is one of your fears hippopotomonstrosesquipedaliophobia?" At this, the King whimpered and nodded his head. Annie was shocked. This was the first person that she knew who was afraid of long words!
"Maybe you could remind me of the names for my children's fears?", the king said. "Mason is afraid of chickens, which is a shame because they are so easy to catch." "That would be alektorophobia. How many pups do you have, your highness?" "I have ten last time I counted." A ripple of laughter cut through the crowd, knowing he hadn't counted in a long time. Then, a small swarm of kids visibly ran into the throne room, shape-shifted in front of the watching eyes and tackled their father. "Priscilla has is fearful of school." "Didaskaleinophobia," Annie replied. "Becky is afraid of foreigners and Ralph is afraid of getting touched." "Becky has xenophobia and Ralph has haphephobia."
"I know Aaron is scared of having phagocytosis, which is a cell ingesting a solid particle of material. Shame since it runs in the family." said Erik. "Nial is a bibliomaniac, which is why we have a giant library filled with books." One of the kids piped up,"We even have The Last Olympian by Rick Riordan. They have such beauteous nymphs in it. Another favorite book of mine is about an octopus with an xylophone in a giant aquarium!" Annie found out that Samantha is scared of any ethnic people as well as those with anomalies. Almost everyone in the pack has different backgrounds, so she is never out of her room. Unfortunately, one is sick with pneumonia, which would be Luna, but she is slowly recovering and she loves post apocalyptic books. Although I don't know what an astronaut is Loki wants to be one and Magnus wants to be homogeneous with his brother. None of my children are an ignominy to me.
As Annie was helping King Erik remember, Kaleb was looking at his watch frequently, and he realized that the sun was setting, but he didn't want to break up the conversation. Eventually he cut in and said to the Longhaired King,"Isn't tonight the full moon? The sun is setting right now!" Immediately after the last words left Kaleb's mouth, all of the werewolves in the room stared at Sammi, Annie and him and howled long and clear. Those who looked human, shifted into wolves. The werewolves surrounded the group, but where the entrance was located, the wolves left open. The group took off at a run out the first cavern and heard the howls of moon crazy wolves. Finally, they managed to find their way out, and kept running. As the first wolves burst out from the cave, they became even crazier. Still running, Kaleb pulled the other two to the right to try to confuse the ravaging wolves. Only, the group did not realize that they were headed for a waterfall. After breaking the crest of the hill did they realize they were falling to their doom. Annie thinks as she is unconsciously reaches for her necklaces, "I wonder if my grandmother will start a war against the werewolves?"
The End
