Prologue
There he stood.
The Devil.
His eyes darker than the dim room we were placed in, burning into my soul for answers. His tall figure hovered over mine, checking my ears and eyes, writing stuff down on the stained notepad.
"Well, Mr. Stock everything looks good...have you been taking your pills?"
I shook my leg, feeling the anxiety building up inside of me.
'Be honest, tell him you aren't.'
'No! No! If you tell him that, they will hurt you, cut off your limbs one by one.'
'The truth always comes out, it's better now than never.'
The voices in my head fought with each other, what do I do?
"Y-yes," I told him, instant regret numbing my bones. I gulped loudly, looking up into his evil eyes which stared me down with intensity.
He slammed the notebook, causing me to flinch and slam my head against the wall slightly.
"Well then, you are good to go. I'll see you tomorrow morning Mr. Stock."
Without a second glance, I left.
'Wrong decision Jamie, someone is going to get hurt.'
'No Jamie, don't listen to him, you did the right thing.'
"Shut up," I whispered, making my way to the cafeteria.
'You can't tell us to shut up, we are here for you Jamie. We are you."
I shook my head, grabbing a metal tray into my hands, picking at the sides of the plastic.
'Jamie remember the plan?'
"Of course I remember! Now be quiet before they hear you!" I hushed. The lunch lady stared suspiciously, giving her daily fake smile.
"Good morning Jamie! How are you today?"
'Tell her what you did, you f*cking liar.'
'No! She will tell on you! Tell her you are doing fine, stick to the plan Jamie!'
I breathed shakily, smiling softly.
"I'm doing f-fine." The squishing sounds of the mashed potatoes hitting my plate let me move forward, avoiding anymore conversation.
'Of course another lie, that's all you're good for.'
I scoffed, making my way to the cold metal tables. My tray clinked as soon as it hit the surface, causing all eyes on me. I quickly looked down, picking up the mashed potatoes with my finger.
"Jamie." I ignored the man speaking out to me, biting the tip of my thumb and licking off the potato.
"Jamie." He spoke again, patting his hand on the metal table. I tapped my foot, looking anywhere and everywhere but his eyes.
'Come on, you can't ignore him forever. See what he wants, maybe he could help.'
No. He would on tell me.
"Jamie, you can't ignore me forever mate." I finally met his eyes with mine. That perverted grin of his making me gag just at the sight of it.
"Why are you ignoring me, did Dr. Burrell tell you something?"
"You mean Satan?"
My so-called friend rolled his bloodshot eyes, a grim smirk defining the wrinkles on his cheeks.
'Just tell him. Maybe he can help you escape.'
'Don't you think about it, it's every man for himself around here.'
"I-I need to tell you something, but not here," I looked around checking for a place to talk to the pervert.
'You seem to be wanting to get yourself killed Stock...'
"Meet me in Ward 7 when the officers get off parole. I'll tell you then."
There was a small pat on my shoulder, Dr. Burrell. Shit, he found out, didn't he?
"Mr. Stock, you're 30 minutes late for your lesson, your lunch doesn't start for another hour." He checked his wrist, the random number clicking every few seconds.
'He's on your ass Jamie, we have to figure something out.'
"I-I was hungry. S-should-dn't you be checking on Kathy?" I pointed to the crazy girl in front of me, holding her hands out. She waved them in the air as if she was on some sort of ride.
'You never f*cking question them! Now he definitely knows something is up!'
Dr. Burrell smacked the back of my head, dragging me off of the metal chair.
"Get to your lesson now." He pushed me slightly, pointing to the doors.
"Go on." I glanced at him then at the pervert. Dr. Burrell followed my eyes.
'You just killed him. We are on our own again.'
"Stop. Talking." I hissed. I made my way to the doors, trying to get away from the questioning devil.
I jogged to the other side of the ward, heading to the abandoned room.
'Skipping lesson again, huh, bad Jamie!'
"Why can't we just escape now? I mean no one is here, I-I can do it!"
'Go on, try. See how far you get dumbass.'
You know what? I will try.
I peaked my head out of the room, checking left and right. The coast was clear.
My feet scattered back to the lunchroom, checking for the devil. He was nowhere.
Now it is your chance. Come on!
I made a run for it, shoving anyone who was in my way.
"Hey! Stop him!" The devil spoke, pointing straight at me. He's everywhere!
'Told you, Jamie, you should have stuck to the plan.'
I screamed loudly, causing the ward guards to back up a little, enough for me to sprint out the entrance doors.
My feet touched the cold and wet floor escaping hell, escaping from the devil.
"Don't think this is over you bastard!" He yelled.
'You did it, Jamie! Now, what idiot?'
Author's Note: Hello! I'm so glad you chose to read my story! I just wanted to let you all know that Chapters will be much longer than the prologue. This is just a way to dive into the story.
