Short Story

A/N ok, I'm extremely bored, so here is a short story.
I finished the final word. The final note. It was perfect. I picked up my guitar and strummed through the song, singing softly along with the words. It was beautiful. I hoped he would like it, it was for him. But he never cared, he didn't even know I existed. I put my guitar back in its case and threw it over my shoulder. I closed the pages of my journal and threw it into my bag. I slung the bag over my other shoulder. I looked in the mirror. Beanie, check. Shirt, check. Pants, check. Earrings, check. Anklet, check. I had everything. I ran out the door of my apartment and ran down the hall.
I raced down the stairs and glanced at my watch. I had plenty of time. I slowed down as I walked out through the lobby. I pushed open the glass doors and let them shut behind me. I walked down to the sidewalk and started walking toward the place. I had a skippy spring in my step as I walked down the street. Past the corner where I played last week. Past the street lamp where the headmaster gave me the scholarship. So much happened to me on these streets. My life happened on these streets. Past the bus stop that man gave me my very first tip. Past where I saw him for the very first time. Him. The reason I was going. Past my college. Wait, my college! I turned back and ran up to the building and went inside.
It was a little dark inside as I headed to a seat in the back of the little café in my college. Open mic night hadn't started yet, thank goodness, I was still early. I ordered some black coffee and sat my guitar down onto the ground next to my chair. My coffee soon came and open mic night began. "Hello, and welcome to open mic night!" The host announced, "Let's remember how this works, if nobody is coming up and you have an act, come right up. So first act, please come on up!" A slim girl in black leggings and a sweatshirt walked slowly up on stage. "Why hello, miss, what is your name?"
"Kiara," she replied quietly.
"And what are you doing for us today?"
"Singing."
"Well, let's give it up for the singing Kiara!" Everyone clapped quietly. They really needed to get a new host for the open mic nights here. Sometimes it was a little awkward to have somebody so enthusiastic as the host for a low key thing. Anyway, Kiara started singing and she was amazing, like breathtaking. It was awesome. When she was done, everyone clapped for her and she blushed and ran off stage. I looked around. I saw him in the corner. Him. The one I was doing this for. Nobody else was getting up, so I stood up. I walked up to the stage and sat down on the stool with my guitar. I pulled it out of the case and set it on my lap. "So, you miss are also a musician? And what's your name?" The host asked.
"I am a musician and my name is Lily," I replied quietly.
"Well, Lily, you may begin whenever!" The host exclaimed. I glanced over to him. Him. He was smiling at me. Smiling. At me. He never did that.
"Well, this song goes out to somebody special in the crowd," I said quietly, looking straight at him. He smirked. Wait smirked? His friends glanced at him like, 'Do you know this girl?' and 'Is she talking to you?' He just nodded. My heart leapt and I opened up my journal and placed it on a music stand in front of me. I strummed the first note, and continued on. My heart soared around while I sang. The words filled up every little crack in the room. The guitar's sounds bounced off the walls and filled the room with a homey feeling. Soon, it was over. As I stood up, everyone cheered and clapped. I blushed. I never thought I was that good. I put my guitar back in the case and grabbed my journal and my bag and stepped off the stage. I walked to my table in the back of the room. He looked at me the entire way. I sat down in my chair and finished my coffee. He was still staring at me. And it made my heart sing.
Soon, the open mic night was over and I stood up and slung my bags over my shoulder. I walked outside of the café, and just as I almost took a step outside, he stopped me. "Lily!" He called out, running up to me and leaving his friends behind.
"What?" I asked.
"I loved your song, and I have one question. Who was that somebody special in the crowd?" He asked.
He was talking to me. He never talked to me. "It was you, Mason." I pushed open the doors and stepped outside. I saw his reflection in the door. His face was ecstatic. He rushed out and followed me.
"Lily!" He called out.
I stopped. "What?" I asked.
"That's what I hoped you would say," he replied. He pulled me close and kissed me under the city stars.
A/N lol I don't know what that was.-Piper
