Niobe

So apparently no noble in Greece EVER learnt that hubris was bad. Poor Niobe will learn the lesson of that. Also, I just wanted to tell a story that involved Artemis because she's a badass and my favorite goddess.

_____________

I'll do a bit of clarification before I start. The mother of the twins Artemis and Apollo is a Titaness named Leto. I'll probably tell a story about her once I get to the many, MANY love affairs of Zeus.

So there's this queen named Niobe who has 14 kids. Very busy woman. The Festival of Leto has come up and people celebrate her and her awesomeness for giving birth to twins.

That's good and all, but Niobe isn't really happy about that. She had 14 kids! Leto only had two! What's impressive about that?

She keeps complaining and junk and Leto catches wind that the queen is talking smack about her and her two godly children. Leto is not happy about that. She calls up the twins and tells them to take care of the problem.

Apollo and Artemis are happy to oblige, and they shoot down all 14 children with their godly arrows. Niobe's husband kills himself, I think? And Niobe eternally cries until she turns into a rock.

I also think Apollo and Artemis didn't let anyone clean up the bodies for a few days, but I can't remember. It was a very bloody affair, I can tell you that much.

Moral of the story: don't make children a competition.

____________

So yeah. That happened. Niobe is literally that mom at PTA meetings that won't stop talking about how much her kids are better than yours. No one cares, Niobe. Anyways, if you have any recommendations on a story, please let me know! I'm starting my research on Roman Mythology pretty soon, so I'll have more material to work with. Thank you so much for reading and look forward to the next story!
