1: Best Friends
EDITED
Warning: I'm American (for the record, I hate Trump) and I don't know much about British schooling, so I'm winging it. Pls don't scold me!
And to the Americans, the two are in 1st grade.
It was the first day of Year 2 for two very extraordinary young children. They did not know that today was the day they would become inseparable friends, that this day would change their lives forever.
Anna Leah Black walked up to the school with her older cousin, Violet. Anna was extremely nervous, as this was her first day at this specific school in a whole new country.
She would have been back in America at her old school if it weren't for the many unfortunate incidents that she had caused without even meaning to. After somehow managing to get kicked out of two schools by age five, her uncle suggested moving to Britain. Of course, the girls were very confused and had no idea of the truth behind this move. Her uncle - the brother of her deceased mother - knew without a doubt that Anna would get into Hogwarts, a very special school for very special magical folk just like her.
"Have a good first day, Anna. Oh, and please try not to get into too much trouble!" said Violet with a giggle, ruffling the girl's blonde locks before running to catch up with her Year 4 friends that somehow was able to make before term had even started. Anna on the other hand...well, even though she was quite charming and funny, her clumsiness and her -somewhat magical - ability to ruin everything in sight overshadowed that. She never had any friends besides Violet, but that was merely because they were cousins.
Anna took a deep breath before looking at the children in her grade. She could tell just by a glance that the vast majority of them seemed dumb and happy-go-lucky. This irritated her, considering the fact that she was quite smart at such a young age. But alas, she would have to deal with it, as she was adamant on making new friends.
Unfortunately, that didn't work out so well...all because of the stupid boy, also known as pig named Dudley Dursley.
Curiosity sparked within her when she heard some yelling from the group. As if the fighting were a magnet, kids flocked around the two people in the argument. Anna pushed her was through the crowd without hesitation - she always felt the need to step into any situation - and saw two boys.
One was huge. Huge like a pig who had a basketball inflator stuck in him and was pumped to the max. He had small, watery blue eyes, sandy slicked-back hair, and he very much so resembled a walrus. Actually, the description of a walrus would be too good for him.
OMFG I'M CRYING! OK, SO I WAS LOOKING UP PICS OF WALRUSES TO THINK OF A JOKE AND IT WAS 3 IN THE MORNING AND I FOUND THIS AHAHA WTF AM I DOING WITH MY LIFE?
Alright, sorry, let's get back to the story.
The other boy was a lot smaller and was donned oversized, ruddy clothes, which Anna had an odd feeling that they were hand-me-downs of the bigger boy's playclothes. He had messy jet-black hair, pale skin, and brilliant emerald-green eyes behind a pair of round wire-rimmed glasses that were held together by many layers of scotch tape. He looked as if he was fed the bare minimum and not really loved, yet seemed to be quietly kind.
The craziest thing was...Anna and the scrawny kid felt an odd, overwhelming sense of familiarity when they made eye contact.
The bigger kid was tormenting the smaller one and Anna decided to intervene, putting herself between the two and facing the walrus, coldly saying, "Just leave him alone already." Her voice was bone-chillingly low and the boy's eyes widened. Everyone's gaze was on her, causing her to turn slightly pink from embarrassment.
The walrus swaggered closer. His repulsive, sweaty face was only inches from her pretty one when he asked, "And who are you?"
She swallowed and straightened up, puffing her chest out slightly. "I'm Anna Leah Black, and I suggest you start tormenting someone your own size...if it's even possible to find someone that big," she said, giving a smirk of her own. The other kids laughed and his face flushed red from anger.
"Yeah...well...um...are you trying to stand up for your little runt boyfriend?" His comeback was desperate and not even good but - let's remember these are young children - the crowd still snickered and whispered. Anna just rolled her eyes.
"No, I mean, I don't really know him. It's just that you're being a git and should shove off," she said awkwardly, trying to use some British slang. The words tasted foreign in her American mouth and sounded bad with her American accent.
"Ah, well, since you don't have a boyfriend..." he trailed off, leaning closer to her, "can I be yours?"
Anna gave him a glare before he was blasted back a few feet by an invisible force. Dudley let out a scream and slammed onto the ground. Everyone else flinched and looked away except for her and the scrawny kid. The two soon-to-be best friends kept their amused gazes locked onto him the whole time.
"WHAT THE BLOODY HELL WAS THAT?! ARE YOU USING SOME KIND OF...W-WITCHCRAFT OR SOMETHING?!" screamed Dudley. Anna was, in fact, using witchcraft. Of course she didn't know at the time, and that it would be years until she found out she was indeed a witch, a very powerful one, in fact.
Before the young girl could question her actions any further, the teacher came out, an unknowing smile plastered onto her elderly face. It was obvious she was oblivious to what happened, and for that, Anna was grateful.
"Welcome to school, children. I will be your teacher, please follow me," she said in a soft British accent, that big smile never leaving her face. Dudley opened his mouth to tell on Anna, but she shot him a glare that made him cower in fear before following the group.

Although Anna enjoyed having the power of fear over the other children, it did get lonely. The first half of the day, nobody dared approach her. Her classmates constantly gave her terrified glances and whispered about her. Despite this, Anna was determined to keep her cool and her temper under control, as she didn't want to move again.
At lunch, she sat at a table by herself since nobody was willing to be close enough to sit with her. Of course, her being the one kid that took every opportunity to do something productive and educational, she read while sipping on her juice box after quickly eating her small packed lunch
The girl was into the story she was currently reading. It was about a cat and dog becoming best friends despite their differences. As she read about the black dog and siamese cat, a voice asked behind her, "Erm...excuse me...can I sit here?"
Anna spun around just to see the scrawny boy from earlier and gave a curt nod before turning back to her book. He didn't seem scared of her in the slightest, just a bit awkward. His lack of fear confused and intrigued the girl...why wasn't he cowering in fear?
"I'm different too," he stated as if answering her mental question.
"How so?"
"Well, you know, weird things happen around me without any control or explanation," said the boy simply, taking a bite of his smushed sandwich. She smiled.
"So I guess I'm not the only one then?"
"I guess not...woah, hold on...t-that scar on your neck...how'd you get it?!"
"Oh, um," Anna instinctively put a small hand to the lighting bolt scar on the front of her neck. "I got it in a car crash when my parents...well...'kicked the bucket'."
"No way...me too!" he exclaimed, quickly pushing his messy jet-black hair away from his forehead, revealing an identical scar.
The girl gasped. "Oh my gosh...that's insane!" There was some silence as the two eyed each other incredulously, and suddenly, an idea came to Anna's mind. "Hey...if I show you something...can you promise not to freak out? I'm not sick or anything."
"I promise."
"Okay..." She took a deep breath before she rolled up one of her sleeves. Harry's eyes widened when he saw very noticeable dark purple veins running up her small arms.
"How...what..."
"I don't know...but usually I use some of my aunt's makeup to cover it up because people freak out. Do you have them too?"
"No, sorry," the boy apologized and she just shrugged. "So, earlier you said your name was Anna?"
"Yeah, I'm Anna Black. And you?"
"Hi Anna, I'm Harry Potter, want to be friends?" he asked and Anna's jaw almost dropped. No one had ever wanted to willingly be her friend. She was always branded as "different" and "weird". But instead of questioning it, she gave him a smile.
"Sure, Harry. I'd love to finally have my first friend."
"Same here...I haven't had any friends. I might if it weren't for Dudley-"
"Wait...is that the walrus from earlier?" Anna asked and Harry couldn't help but laugh at her description of his horrid cousin.
"Yep, that's him, I've never seen him as a walrus before...but now that you've said that it's starting to make sense," he said with a grin.
And from that day on, the two of them were best friends. They were inseparable. But they never knew how drastically their lives would change after they each got a letter from a certain headmaster...

Hello my dearest readers! I hope this was alright. I wanted a bit of back story on the two's friendship before diving into the cliche stuff. As you might notice once you read further is that I originally wrote this story in first person, and that the style, mistakes, etc. are actually horrendous and laughable. This being said, please don't be turned off! My writing has improved leaps and bounds, I promise.
So, whether you're an old or new reader, welcome to the series, and I hope you enjoy the new and improved version that is slowly being fixed.
Thanks so much for reading.
Please follow, vote and comment!
Love to all,
~Lumos
