Chapter 5~John wins the argument, as usual
John was woken by someone shaking him. He opened one eye and saw Anna. He got up from the ground and they ate in silence.
"Anna," John said once they were done eating. "I think we're going to leave today. I think you should come home with me. It'd be safer at my house."
"Yaaayyy! I have a house!" Anna jumped up and down.
John laughed at Anna's reaction. But Anna couldn't figure out what was so funny, but she didn't want to be rude and ask. They started packing right away. Then, they walked back. By the time they got back, it was getting late out.
"John, since I'm gonna be living in yer home... does that make you my daddy?" Anna asked.
John stopped and looked at her. They were right in front of his house, now.
"Let's find out," John said as he pulled open the doors.
He found Cynthia watching the telly. She turned around and smiled at John. But her smile dropped as she saw Anna.
"Anna, why don't you use the bathroom. You could probably wash your hands," John said.
She nodded and raced around the house, finally finding the bathroom.
"John," Cynthia tapped her foot. "Where did she come from?"
"I found her."
Cynthia scoffed, thinking he was lying. The truth was that Cynthia thought it was his kid, but with another woman. Was John cheating on me, she asked herself.
"You found her." Cynthia repeated, a bit annoyed.
"Yea, she was all alone in the woods. I couldn't just leave her. I like her, now. She's only five and you've been saying how nice a little girl would be," John argued.
"I want a girl of our own, John."
"I already told her she'll stay and be part of our family. Julian would love her. Please, Cynthia," John begged.
"John, how can I say no to you. Fine, but we'll have to contact Brian about her. I suppose she won't be a hassle. She is a little cutie," Cynthia gushed now that she thought how cute she was.
Meanwhile, Anna couldn't get over how something for your hands could smell so good. Did they put actual strawberries in here, Anna thought. There was only one way to find out. She pumped up the foamy soap Anna smelt it again. She poked out her tongue and took a small lick.
"Ewww!" Anna said, turning on the water to get the gross stuff off her hands.
To people, it tastes like some pretty nasty chemicals. But little Anna had no idea what chemicals were. So to her, it was like mint leaves, mud, water, and a rotten orange peel combined.
It was so gross, she spit it out an instant it touched her taste buds. She even rinsed it out but the taste lingered. She wasn't going to ever taste soap again. She rushed out into the hall to John. She wanted to warn him that soap doesn't taste as good as it smells. But she ran into something, or someone.
"Hey!" the boy exclaimed.
Anna sat there, on the floor, with her mouth hanging wide open. She had no idea John had a son. The boy stared at her in shock, too. He got up quickly and ran to John and Cynthia.
"Mum! Mummy! A girl is in here and she gots cooties!"
Anna ran after him, a bit confused what cooties were. She had a feeling that you shouldn't want "cooties".
"No I don't!" she huffed.
She jumped and tackled him real fast. Of course, Julian didn't want to go down without a fight. He tossed and turned. He pinched Anna. But Anna didn't stop and cry. No, she grabbed a fistful of hair and pulled on it, not too hard, though. Julian gave her a swift kick in the knee. He managed to crawl away after all, she was so thin. He ran to hide behind his mom.
"Dad? You're back!" Julian flung himself into his father's arms.
"Julian! How are yeh doing?" Johh hugged him.
Anna came walking in casually aa if nothing happened when she was gone. Julian looked at her and pointed a figure at her and yelled, "She's gots cooties! Get her out!"
"Julian," Cynthia scolded, "She's part if our family now. And you say has, not gots."
"Why is she family?" Julian said 'she' as if she was a smelly pair of boots or roadkill.
"She needed a home. You both should go to bed. We'll give her the guest bedroom for her new room. Go clean up, both of you," John said.
They both rushed to the bathroom. John laughed a bit.
"What?" Cynthia asked.
"They'll become the best of friends, I just know it."
In the bathroom, they fought over who could use the sink first.
"It's my house!" Julian pushed her away.
"It's my house, too," she pushed him back.
"But they're my parents," he smirked.
Anna let him shove her out of the bathroom. He was right, it was his parents. She frowned and she started crying silently. It wasn't fair that she had no parents and Julian did. But what could she do about it? All she did was sit and sulk.
