Chapter 4~I love you
John made another camp and started a fire for two reasons, Anna was wet and cold, and it was getting darker by the minute. John knew Julian would love to play with Anna. Too bad I can't raise her, can I, John thought.
"Anna, where do yeh live?"
Anna thought for a moment, debating whether she should tell him the truth or not. But she did like him, so she replied with the truth. "Out here."
"You mean you don't live with anybody at all," John was shocked, well, not as shocked like when he found out Cynthia was pregnant, but pretty close.
"Mmm-hm. Thanks for the food, John. You cook great!" Anna exclaimed, her mouth watering thinking of the food she has never eaten before. She was too use of the berries and spinach she'd always find around.
"Cynthia, my wife, made them before I left. Do you want more?" John asked after hearing her stomach grumble.
She nodded her head very fast that little drops of water hit John's left cheek. He didn't mind, they'd dry off from the fire. He reached into his bag and pulled out another ham, cheese, lettuce, and mayonnaise sandwich.
He couldn't push the thought of a little five year old living out here with no parents and not going to school. Where should he take her when he leaves. He can't leave her out here. He also has grown a bond with her. Hearing her munch on that sandwich made John's stomach drop. How does she find food, John pondered the thought a bit. He hadn't realized how late it was until he saw the Anna was snuggled up next to him with droopy eyes.
"Time for bed, Anna. Do you want to sleep in the sleeping bag tonight?" John asked.
She replied with a simple nod. She was now all dry and clean. John scooped her up and layed her in the sleeping bag. Her eyes closed. John smiled at her. He started poking at the fire with a stick.
"John?" Anna asked, sitting up looking tiredly at him.
"Yes?" John yawned, noticing how tired he felt.
"I love you. 'Night," Anna fell back asleep.
John knew what he had to do now. I'll keep her, John decided. Cynthia shouldn't mind too much. She's always saying how lovely a girl would be. John leaned over and kissed her forehead leaving a small smile on Anna's face.
