(Y/n)'s POV
The smell of medicine and cleaning chemicals, the taste of bland food and the sight of nothing but white, white and white. The walls were drenched in a coat of white paint, the doctors and nurses dressed in all white attire and even the patients had white hospital gowns.
Not a speck of colour in sight, save for the rare vending machine and potted plants here and there. My hands were shaking slightly as I found the wall, using it to guide me along the hall.
Young children rushed past, unaware of the damage they could inflict on patients. Doctors and nurses walked with a sense of responsibility and urgency as they made their rounds.
No one bothered to check up on me. My only family being my parents, no relatives nor siblings. I was...utterly and despicably alone, excluding my parents' monthly visit.
As soon as I reached the lounge, I sat down by one of the chairs in the corner, not realising that a young teenage boy had taken the seat next to me.
"Oi, my girlfriend was sitting there. Get off," he exclaimed rudely.
"I-I'm sorry, I didn't realise."
"What are you? Blind? Her bag's by the table."
"...sorry."
"Tch, what an idiot."
I stood up cautiously, only to have him trip me over with his feet. With a restrained yell of surprise trapped in my throat, I whimpered and forced myself to get up despite the fact that I wanted to run and hide from the stares of everyone in this room.
Suddenly, a pair of arms pulled me up onto my feet. They had their arm around my waist and their hand clutching mine. I hesitantly looked up at see a man around my age with black hair and a piercing gaze.
"Why the hell would you push a patient over?" he asked coldly.
"She started it, not me. My girlfriend was sitting there," the boy replied.
"Well, I don't see her here now."
"That's because she's buying a drink, dumbass."
"What was that, you little brat?"
"What did you just call me?!"
"Hey, what's your sickness?"
The man had directed this question at me. I looked away from his gaze when I replied.
"I-I'm going blind in both my eyes...and my body is really frail. My parents had me hospitalised because they worried that I wouldn't be able to cope..."
"Did you hear that? Don't expect all patients to have diseases! You're an idiotic moron who can't even think about others."
"What?! Once I tell my dad-"
"Hey, that's not nice. You're the one in the wrong here," exclaimed a pink-haired boy.
"Goshi, let's go," said the one with blue eyes.
I felt myself being pulled along, away from the arrogant boy that I had unintentionally angered. I tightened my grip on the male's hand as I walked with them, needing to use something as support.
~A few minutes later~
"So you've never heard of Thrive before?" asked Yuuta.
"N-no, sorry."
"Hey, why don't we go on a date?" Kento asked with a wink.
"She doesn't need any weirdos going after her," replied Goshi, who still had an arm behind me, on the back of the bench...although I didn't think he realised.
"You're okay, right? He did trip you quite roughly..." Yuuta commented.
"I think I'm fine."
"What do you mean you think you're fine?" Goshi asked.
"...I can't feel pain. There's a problem with my nerves."
"Wow, that's so cool!" Yuuta said.
I looked away, not sure whether to agree or disagree. Of course it was a blessing to avoid pain but it was also a curse because you never knew when you were hurting...
"...sorry, I didn't mean to upset you."
"It's fine. So what were you three doing in the hospital?"
"We were getting medicine for our friend."
"Your friend?"
"Yeah, Osari Hikaru. Heard of him?"
"No, sorry. I don't talk to any of the patients here."
"Why not?" Goshi asked.
"...because I can't see anything, and I'm afraid of the unknown."
A strike of lightning lit up the darkened sky. I whimpered quietly, unconsciously moving closer to Goshi while taking deep breaths to calm myself down.
Squeezing my eyes shut, I thought of the things that made me happy. I thought of fantastical dreams and everlasting aspirations. I thought of myself healthy and well, able to pursue whatever I set my mind to.
"Hey (Y/n), are you alright?" Yuuta asked.
"Oi, don't tell me you're scared of thunder and lightning," Goshi said.
"Hey, you three! Bring her inside...quickly!" I heard my doctor yell.
Goshi's POV
~Some time later~
"She has post traumatic stress disorder?"
"Yes. Her parents accidentally left her outside when she was a child and there was a big storm. I don't think I need to explain anymore," her doctor exclaimed then added, "We're still trying to treat it but it's proven to be quite difficult. May I ask what your relation is to her?"
"We're...well, we only met today," Kento replied.
"I see...it'll be better for her to know more people. She doesn't have any friends nor any relatives that come to visit her."
"Oh..."
"Then we'll be her friends," Yuuta said happily.
"That'll be a great help. Thank you."
"You're welcome."
"Well then, I have a meeting to get to. It was nice meeting you, see you next time."
"Bye."
He left, leaving the three of us alone with a sleeping (Y/n). She had her arms around a giant teddy bear, her face mirroring the fear she had in her nightmare.
"Hey Goshi, Tsubasa said that we have to go back," Kento exclaimed quietly.
"...then leave, I'll stay here with her."
"*smirks* If that's what you want."
"Oi, I didn't mean anything weird!"
"Well, I never did specify what I meant. You're the one thinking weird things."
They left before I could argue back. *sigh* My eyes unconsciously drifted to (Y/n), only to see her staring back at me with her face half hidden by the blanket.
She ducked under when a stroke of lightning lit up the room. I closed the curtains, and turned on her bedside lamp. Why...was she so cute? I could never behave like that so why was I thinking like this?...
"The curtains are closed."
"...sorry, I-"
"Your doctor already explained your situation."
"I...see."
She sat up, her legs hanging off the bed. I watched as she shakily stood up and walked forward slowly. I was immediately by her side when she stumbled, catching her by the waist. She clenched her fists on my chest.
"What's wrong?"
"N-nothing," she replied quickly.
"What is it?"
"Nothing."
"Tell me. I don't like being kept in the dark."
"...your grip's too tight..."
I released my hold on her, letting her support herself on me. She didn't seem to mind but the way she moved was still stiff and shaky. I found her staring at me but her eyes seemed distant...like she saw right through me.
"Sorry, am I making you feel uncomfortable?" she asked in a quiet whisper.
"*sigh* No."
"I'm sorry. My eyes aren't..."
"Were you born like this?"
"I...don't know. I was too young to remember."
"Didn't your parents tell you?"
"They prefer not to talk about it."
"Well, either way, it's clearly not your fault so stop apologising all the time. I'm seriously gonna get annoyed."
"Sorry- ah, I mean..."
Her blush flushed a bright red. Damn, she was way too cute for her own good. I reached out to move the hair away from her face, completely mesmerised by her aura.
"Who the hell are you? Why are you holding my daughter?"
