Hinami's POV
"Hey little missy-"
"Shut up."
"Why don't you let me try a-"
The blade pierced his heart before I activated the curse. The lowly vampire's dying screams did not faze me in the slightest. I would give no mercy to those who took advantage of their strength and dominated the weak.
Grabbing my short sword from the ground, I headed to the rooftop of a nearby building, still intact but damaged brutally nonetheless. Khaleessi's scaly wings brushed softly against my skin as we spotted an army of vampires not too far from where we stood.
Only a few blocks away. My eyes turned dangerously black, blue veins spreading from within and onto my skin as I talked to the small dragon on my shoulder.
"What do you think?"
"I'll be able to wipe them out with one blast, just watch me," she replied.
"Then let's go."
Swiftly returning to ground level, we silently crept up to the small vampire army. Despite their enhanced senses, they didn't seem to notice my presence, which I didn't mind one bit.
Stepping out from the shadows, they all turned their heads, wary of their new companion. I smiled in mockery at them as they were about to die by the hands of an unimportant human girl.
"Khaleessi, go for it."
She flew off my shoulder before transforming into her true form. Her large, majestic body seemed to shield us from the blasting sun, yet that was simply foreshadowing the darkness that was to come.
She opened her mouth before masses of dancing flames shot out towards the unprepared vermin in their way. That was when I realised that I was also in her line of fire.
Using my arms to block the incredible force of the attack, I squeezed my eyes shut. The fiery heat could not injure me. Being the last member of the Ryuugahara clan, I was the only one left who was immune to fire with the ability to control dragons.
Once the blast calmed down, I inspected the corpses, satisfied with Khaleessi's success. She swiftly swept a wing in front of my body, making me look down. I was naked.
"Khaleessi, even if you know fire cannot hurt me, my clothes are not fireproof!"
But she paid no mind to my statement. Her low growls and hisses reverberated across the entire area. I placed a hand on her wing, trying to calm her down, not sure what was causing her distress and anger.
"Khaleessi, calm down-"
I turned my head to see a face all too familiar. My body froze, not from the fear of him seeing me naked but from pure shock. He...was alive...Mika was...alive...all along and yet...he wasn't himself...
Khaleessi's wing was the only barrier between him and myself. Silent tears fought their way down my cheeks as my fingers curled into fists. He took a hesitant step forward, almost as if he was afraid I'd shatter at any given moment.
"H-Hina-chan..." he started.
"Mika..."
"I-I thought you d-died. How?..."
"Khaleessi...she saved me."
This time, he held no hesitation when walking forward. Khaleessi only raised her wing but whether it was to hide my body or to protect me...I couldn't tell. He stopped but a few metres away.
"*blush* I-I don't have any clothes on."
He began to slowly walk towards me. I placed a hand on Khaleessi, a silent gesture to assure her of my safety with him. His eyes were looking elsewhere but his hand was outstretched, his coat hanging from his fingers.
Taking it from his hand, I draped it over my shoulders and pulled it tight around my body. This time, he finally looked me in the eye. That was when the realisation dawned on me. The reason Khaleessi was snarling, the reason why he was with the vampires...
"You're...a vampire..."
"...yeah...I am."
"Have you...drunk any-"
"No, I refuse to."
"Hina-chan, get away from him!" Shinoa exclaimed.
"No, Shinoa. He's-"
Mika immediately blocked her scythe. Khaleessi returned to her small form, landing on a fallen lamppost just a metre away. Swiftly tearing a little of the coat's bottom off, I tied it around my waist to keep it in place before jumping in front of Shinoa.
Grunting a little, I managed to stop her altogether. She stared at me in disbelief, seemingly thinking it entirely bizarre for a human to aid a blood-sucking monster.
"He's my friend."
"Hina-chan, are you okay? Did you hit your head? He's a vampire."
"Shinoa...please let him go."
"...fine, I'll let you end his life. I'll pretend I didn't see him."
"Thank you..."
She disappeared behind a ruin, leaving Mika alone with Khaleessi and I. He immediately pulled me into a tight embrace. His fingers curled around my short, brown hair as I buried my face in his chest.
The pain and the sorrow...I didn't realise how much I had unconsciously kept hidden deep within my mind until now. Mika, Yuu and I had an unbreakable bond. The loss of our friend had almost broken me.
But he was here, standing with his protective arms around me. Hot tears slid down my cheeks as I clutched onto his shirt. Blood soaked through the fabric, staining my skin a dark, crimson colour.
"M-Mika, you're bleeding."
"I'm fine-"
"What happened? Why aren't you healing? Do you need blood? If so, I-"
"No! Not yours...ever..."
He found the strength to push me away before catching himself on a pole. Khaleessi rushed to my side, seemingly afraid for my best friend's safety. He must've hid his injury...was this from Khaleessi's attack from before?
"Mika, you need blood whether you like it or not."
"No! I will not become a monster...I've held on for so long...I can't give up now..."
"Well, it's different now. You won't be dying as a monster, you'll be living as Mika, the one and only Mika that I know."
"Hina-chan...please...I can't..."
He backed up, covering his face with his hands. I slid my blade across my forearm and walked towards him. Holding my arm a few centimetres away from him, I waited patiently for him to drink.
He was never a monster and never will be. He still had a heart, a heart beating strong and fast. A heart that cared and a heart that mattered. This, I could say with certainty...because I loved him.
He stopped fighting the thirst before grabbing my arm. Pulling me in closer, he whispered softly before slowly sinking his fangs into my neck.
"I'm so sorry, Hina-chan..."
I simply smiled despite the pain. He was alive and well and that alone made me happy. It allowed me to push away my insecurities and everlasting pain. He was my saviour.
"I love you," he whispered.
