Tips for world building pt.1
Remember to get books about history, mythologies, nature and whatever look interesting/helpfull.
Section A- World building:
Step one- Draw a map of the actual world. By doing this you can section of different areas/biomes and work on individual nations.
Step 2- Make a basic outline of each biome and figure out which nations/histories/mythologies your going to use as reference.
Step 3- Pay attention to the creatures that live in these biomes in real life. Take note of there traits, anatomy, behaviors, evolution, and relationships they have with surrounding creatures. Use both extinct and living creatures, mix it up a little. It makes it less stressful when trying to come up with entirely new creatures but never steal someone else's idea. If you want to use someone else's creation then ask. DON'T BREAK THE LAW IDOIT!!!
Step 4- Take breaks and schedule out what your working on. For example, you can schedule map building and studying for 1 week, then chill the next. DON'T OVER WORK YOUR SELF AND LET YOUR BRAIN HAVE A BREAK!!!!
Step 5- Work on the actual land scape a bit. Like, draw the different biomes and sub-biomes to get a better under standing of how life there is going to work.
Step 6- Create the dominant species for each biome. Take a look at how different people live in different places and how there culture is influenced by the land around it. (Almost typed tit) XD
Section 2- Creatures and people (A deeper look into section 1, step 6.)
Step 1- Take a good look at different mythical creatures from various culture and create some basic designs for the creatures. NEVER throw away any design. For example: I decided to use creatures like fairies, pixies, etc. for Asian cultures. I decided to use them for this because they are in various cultures and that in Asian countries, mostly china, people prefer skiny bodies over others. I don't know why but since I wanted my fairies/pixies to look more bug like then Disney. Similar to how they are portrayed in the spiderwick chronicles but with a more human and oriental vibe.
Step 2- Make the non-taking creatures like wild animals in that biome. Feel free to use real life and extinct creatures, just mix some up a bit. For artificial breeds give a good reason as to why, when, what, and never give them something generic. Actually consider there history, anatomy and traits otherwise it won't make sense. However, its okay to leave some holes in it for the viewer's to figure out, just make sure you know the what the truth is.
Step 3- Build the cities, kindoms and nations. This is one of the most important steps because by not giving each something unique then it will be boring. Looks aren't everything, if it all looks the same then you will lose veiwers. Not amount of pretty animation and scenery is going to cover up plot holes. Look at real life for inspiration.
Step 4. Art style and/or animation. In anime writers have to go out of ther way to ensure that there characters don't look to much like other characters. Its something that everyone struggles with at some point in writing. Don't waste time and money on a art style that look just something else.
Step 5- When designing main and/or background characters don't use clichés and tropes. Here are some basic ones that can be easily avoided.
•Gravity defying tities. Please don't try to kill a character with tities that would put to much stress on the spinal cord.
•Characters with unrealistic body types. You should always have a variety of body types with both main and background characters. That will not only attract more viewers, but it will make your show stand out because of the variety.
•Skin and race variations gives more uniqueness to the show. For some reason in so many shows everyone looks like a vampire without the fangs and sparkles. But I'm pretty sure we could live without the sparkling douche bags. (NO SPARKLING BEACHES)
Step 6- Every show good or bad follow some form of rules. Like some are more fantasy based, while others are based on logic. You can do both but you have to be consistent.
