'All I'd wanted was life'
But death came to half of me -
The half betrothed to a future wife
Leaving the other for revenge to be.

While one of us managed for the other,
Communicating on behalf of the brother.
Couldn't lie in the shadows forever -
Brought out the embers before slaughter.

A voice called from the depth,
"Did you call me, Master?"
The reply flew out of the net
And action was taken faster.

The boy who stayed went deeper
Into a never-ending whirlpool – quicksand.
He moved, time disappearing as vapour
Until the sudden grasp of a hand.
