This is set after he become half ghoul but before he got his white hair.

To say you were worried was under exaggerated. (Is that even a word?) You were terrified. Your best friend/ biggest crush, Kaneki, was attacked by a ghoul. Every time you tried to to see him he was asleep or simply didn't want to see anyone. You did managed to catch him after his surgery. He seemed..different.
*flashback to the hospital*
"Hey Kaneki how are you feeling?" You asked softly scared to speak to loudly. He glanced at you, his usually bright grey eyes now dull. But he gave you a small smile that was obviously fake.
"I'm fine (Y/N). They said I would be released in a week or so."
"That's good. You think you can go back to school?" He shook his head turning away from him. You thought it was the question that bothered him and he turned away. But you didn't realize it was because his eye changed. Before you could say anything there was a knock on the door and a nurse came in.
"Sorry miss visiting hours are over. I have to ask you to leave." You nodded and turned to Kaneki to find him now facing you.
"I'll see you later Kaneki." He nodded another fake smile on his face. With a sudden boost of confidence you pecked his cheek and ran out the room. Kaneki sat in shock on his bed touching his cheek were you kissed it. With a blush on his face he smiled a real smile for the first time since waking up.
*present*
You sighed at the memory. Ever since then you couldn't see Kaneki. You heard from your other best friend,Hide, that he got released from the hospital, but no one has seen him. Both of you tried to go to his apartment but he wouldn't answer. You knew he was in there he just refused to let you in.
You then remembered you were outside as you shivered from the cold weather. You looked up to see Anteiku. You heard about this coffee shop but never went. From what you heard the coffee was amazing.You went inside the smell of coffee hitting our nose. The friendly chatter filling your ears.
"Welcome to Anteiku." A girl with dark blue hair said with a small smile. "Have a seat were ever you like."
You smiled back and took a seat next to the window.
"Kaneki get the girl that just walked in." Wait. Did she just say Kaneki? No it couldn't be.
"Hi. What would you like?" Your question was answered when you turned.
"Kaneki?"
"(Y/N)?" You stared at each other in surprise.
"Kaneki your alive. Well of course your alive but.."
"Yes I'm fine how about we catch up over coffee it's time for my break anyway." You nodded and he went to get your coffee. That's one of the things you like about him he knows what you like.
He came back and handed you a cup. That's when you realized he was wearing an eye patch.
"Is your eye OK?"
"Yeah just something that happened last minute with the ghoul." You nodded. The both of you talked for what seemed like hours. Then Kaneki decided to speak up.
"(Y/N) the thing is I really, like really like you."
"Kaneki. I like you too."
"Really?"
"Yeah how about we go on an a actual date sometime?"
"Yeah I would like that."
But the thing is. How would could he tell you he is half ghoul.
