Okay, idk about u ppl, but there are a lot of things I don't like in some fanfiction (sorry peeps) so I'm gonna talk about 'em now. Also, note that I'm not trying to offend anyone, so no hate comments. Plus, this is my opinion, and it's not that I don't care about urs, it's just that I like mine better :)

Btw, I'm a suckish fanfic writer, but I read A LOT of fanfiction, so there

Okay, here we go...

1. Check your work, cuz I bet you there's gonna be grammar and spelling mistakes. i cringe each time i don't see the the 'i' in capital. I get frustrated when semi-colons (;) are used wrong. I cringe when simple words are spelt wrong (does, not dose). Check it, or get someone else to if ur desperate, idc, just edit yet already.

2. Use paragraphs, because it gets really confusing when u have big chunks of text w/ whole dialogues in them. Like, I've read paragraphs where the characters have a conversation all in the one paragraph, and damn son, it is really painful to read. Sometimes, I don't even know who the hell is saying what, and I just get lost. So yeah, do what I put in bold.

3. Don't change tense in the middle of the story, cuz I don't know 'bout other readers, but it just puts me off. No, you can't write: "He sat on the bed and starts thinking about the new girl.", that just doesn't do, nuh-uh. 

4. Don't make the characters fall in love when they've just met each other. I once read a fic where the characters had known each other for like 10 minutes, and were already heading for the bed. What the hell? Give them time to develop their love for one another guys, idk about others, but I always find that to be the most interesting part of the story. The characters can bone it later if u want, but for now, give it a rest.

5. Don't make the characters too ooc. Not much to say, I ranted a lot about this last chapter, so read it if u haven't.

6. Don't make a super angsty backstory. I mean, in certain cases it's okay, but idk, most of the time it turns out in way that just seems really unrealistic, so yeah, give the characters a break, and send them on a holiday to HappyLand... u don't have to do that either, just, a super angsty background is NOT necessary to write a good story.

7. If ur using ocs, make sure they're not Mary-Sues. Do the Mary Sue test thing, I've done it, it's pretty good.

8. Don't write in nice, perfect paragraphs, and suddenly ruin it by writing ur dialogue in script form. I've seen it, it's weird, and it just shows ur a lazy writer. Just write ur dialogue properly for God's sake. (Exception: my friend Gini5203's fic, cuz it's ALL script form, that's okay, otherwise it ain't)

9. Don't start fics with big paragraphs, cuz most ppl are just gonna click the back button. You should see the way I fall in depression mode whenever I'm starting a fic, and I see a huge paragraph. I'm pretty sure most potential readers like me just run away from fics that start w/ big paragraphs, so please, don't do it.

10. Try to develop ur characters' feelings. All the fics I don't like, don't do this, or do it really poorly. Seriously, in some fics the only feels you have are 'hormones, hormones, hormones'- guys, humans are more complicated than that, at least try. U don't have to go full psychology mode, but try to develop more on the way ur characters feel about other characters and the situations they're in.

11. Use the right your/you're. (Reference to number 1) Too may ppl use this your, when they mean this you're. It's not, 'Your a mean fanfiction reader', it's 'You're a mean fanfiction writer'. You're is a contraction of 'you are', don't forget guys!!!!!

12. When a one-shot gets too long, cut it into at least 2 chapters. I once read a one-shot that was worth like 10 chapters at least, and getting back to my reading later and trying to find where I was up to was a real pain.

UPDATE: Okay, I just thought up one more thing...

13. If you're gonna put French in ur fanfiction, unless u know ur French really well, ask someone who does (eg. me). I have read a few fanfiction (usually w/ Levi Ackerman in it) where people try and put in some French cuz it just looks and sounds so cool (hey, it does), and that's all very well and good unless a native French-speaker like me reads it and can't understand half of what ur trying to say. Now, I may not be the biggest French expert in the world, but I'm probably more reliable than Google Translate. GOOGLE TRANSLATE- I'm gonna make a rant about that actually, it's just so unreliable. Anyway, back to the topic. I once read a fic where Eren was confessing to Levi in French, problem- apart from the first sentence (which no offense, but was full of grammar mistakes), I swear I could not understand a SINGLE thing Eren was saying. Really, I couldn't. I reread over and over, and was like, "What the hell is he saying!? I WANNA KNOW!!". 

So, conclusion: You wanna French-up ur fic (or any story in general), but ur not too on top of ur French? Don't use internet, real ppl are more reliable. If u don't know who to ask, you can ask me (especially w/ swear words (cussing), one of the best fics I ever read was either using French slang that nobody actually uses or was using the swear words wrong). Uh yeah... wrote quite a bit there.
