Sabelas (Edited)
A/N: This is a multi-crossover fic, with Baldur's Gate 3 and Dragon Age (specifically Inquisition and then later Veilguard). Changes will be made across the board to fit the series together, but if there is anything that doesn't make sense or doesn't fit, then just drop a comment and we can discuss it together and make changes if need be.

Bio:
Sabelas Lavellan was born in 9:00 Dragon in the Emerald Grove, the daughter of Abelas and Siona Lavellan. She is the step-daughter of Halsin and the older half-sister of Fenris.
Pre-Life:
The Lavellan clan had been camped in the Arbor Wilds when Siona wandered off to explore. Whilst in the woods, she was set upon by a group of bandits. She fled. Running through the woods until she stumbled upon the temple, injured and seeking sanctuary.
As the bandits stepped foot in the temple, they awoke the sentinels that guarded the temple. The bandits were quickly dispatched and Siona woke in an elaborate chamber, her wounds tended to by Abelas, a sentinel.
Rather than asking her to leave, Abelas asked her to stay in the temple. To think of it as her home. She argued that her clan was out there and that they will be looking for her. He relented and corrected that she should stay until her wounds heal, or he can escort her back to her people. She chose to go back to her people.
Abelas kept his word and escorted her through the Wilds, back to her clan's location, only to find that it had been destroyed and many of the elves killed. Heartbroken and weeping, Siona fell to her knees and cried out. Abelas sat with her and comforted her.
- Whilst much of the clan was destroyed, a few survived but fled, heading to the northern Free Marches where they would wander for years to come.
Siona returned with Abelas to the temple, where she would remain for many years.
Siona and Abelas eventually came to form a deep and meaningful romantic relationship in which Siona ended up pregnant.
Unfortunately, the temple was once again invaded and Abelas forced his pregnant lover to flee rather than let harm come to them. Siona was reluctant, but to save her child growing inside of her, she did as he asked. Promising to one day return.
Siona was pursued through the Wilds and beyond by the invading forces until she made it to Ferelden, protected by the sentinels and using her own druidic magic. In Ferelden, Siona travelled to Denerim where she took a ship back to Faerun.
This ship was wrecked by storms as it crossed the Waking Sea, resulting in it shipwrecking on the Sword Coast. Whilst all aboard the ship perished, Siona somehow survived. She washed up on the coast.
She was found by druid scouts from the Emerald Grove who carried her back to their home to tend to her wounds.
Shortly after her arrival at the Grove, she gave birth to her daughter, whom she called Sabelas, after her father.
Sabelas was raised in the Grove, the only child there for the first nine years of her life. During this time, Siona bonded with and fell into deep companionship with the Archdruid Halsin who understood that she would always love Abelas with all of her heart, he was just happy to have a sliver of it dedicated to him and his people.
They would eventually have a child together, naming him Leto.
Sabelas asked often of her father, more so as she grew older, and started to understand that he wasn't around, but Siona just answered that he was her greatest sorrow, and never offered anything more.
In 9:24, Sabelas, Siona and Leto were on the beach not far from the Grove, simply spending time together as a family with Sabelas practising her magic and Leto training with a sword, when Sabelas wandered away to pick flowers. Sadly when she returned to her mother and brother, she found that her mother had been killed and there was no sign of Leto anywhere.
In truth, Tevinter Slavers had been travelling the Sword Coast looking for elves to take into slavery. They'd seen Siona and Leto and saw them as easy targets. Siona fought back against them though, leading the slavers to simply kill her for being too much trouble and Leto was taken away.
Halsin would later find Sabelas sitting beside her mother's body, clutching to one of the slavers' banners that had fallen during the attack. He sat at her side and gently cradled Sabelas as she wailed before he took her back to the Grove, sending druids to retrieve Siona's body so she could be given a proper burial.
In the years that followed, Halsin would continue to raise and mentor Sabelas, coming to see her truly as his daughter, even seeing her as his successor as Archdruid one day. She had lost her mother and brother and he had lost his lover and his son and they found family in one another. Neither one would forget Siona or Leto, with their being shrines dedicated to both of them within the Grove.
Leto/Fenris:
After being stolen away from his mother at 15, Leto was sold to a Tevinter magister called Danarius.
In the two years that followed, he would often talk about Sabelas to Varania, another of Danarius' slaves, giving her and Danarius insight and knowledge that would later be used against Leto.
Two years later, Leto would undergo a ritual that would cover him in a series of lyrium-infused markings, which grant him the unnatural ability to phase through solid objects, which is somehow connected to the Fade. However, the experiments performed on him also caused him to lose all of his memories. After this, Danarius changed Leto's name to Fenris.
Five years later, Fenris would escape Danarius and fled to Kirkwall as a fugitive, hunted by the soldiers of his former master. Here, Fenris met and befriended Marian Hawke and would spend the next eight years alongside her in Kirkwall, falling into a troubled and bumpy romantic relationship with her.
At some point in Kirkwall, Danarius arrives to take Fenris back into his custody only for Marian to defend him. Danarius used Varania, passing her as Fenris' sister, trying to persuade him to return of his own free will. It didn't work.
Varania begged for her life when Fenris went to kill her too, with her admitting that she knows his real name, his real sister, and his homeland. This gave Fenris pause and he pushed her to tell him. Varania admitted that his real name was Leto Lavellan, that he does have a sister, Sabelas, and that he was taken from the Sword Coast. Fenris then killed her anyway, ripping the druid necklace from her neck after she admitted that it was his. The necklace, and the information regarding Sabelas and the Sword Coast gave Fenris his starting point, but it would take him years to pluck up the courage to actually start looking for more information as he feared what he would find. Dead family or worse, that they sold him to slavers in the first place.
It won't be until 9:41, with the destruction of the Conclave, that Fenris would receive any real information. This comes from his friend Varric, informing him that the Herald of Andraste is called Sabelas Lavellan and that she is a druid from the Sword Coast. This will lead Fenris to the Inquisition, and his long lost sister and later will lead him to be reunited with his father.
Falura:
Ghilan'nain himself was in love with Falura. When he found out about her secret marriage to Fen'Harel, he 'killed' Falura in a jealous rage and then, after, in his grief, cast a spell that would create vessels for her throughout the centuries to follow. Lately, Sabelas Lavellan.
In reality Falura's soul was imprisoned in the Astral Plane, a newly created realm that existed before the veil was erected, created by Ghilan'nain for the exact purpose of imprisoning Falura. Some time later, the Githyanki discovered the Astral Plane and would use it to imprison Orpheus. Falura would later be unshackled by the Emperor, however she would remain trapped within the Astral Plane, but would communicate to Sabelas and her companions through the Emperor and the tadpoles they are infected with, even protecting them from other Mind Flayers whilst secretly plotting with Orpheus.
Note: Falura can communicate with Sabelas in the Fade, presenting as a Spirit of Love, due to her being a vessel meant to house Falura's soul should she ever be released from the Astral Plane.
Personality:
A mysterious, mystical, quiet, and beguiling young woman, Sabelas has an otherworldly aura and an enchanting charisma to her. She is compassionate, kind, intelligent and deeply curious. She can initially come across as quiet and withdrawn.
To those closest to her and those that she utterly trusts, she is generous and kind and can be bold and outspoken, she is not afraid to say what she really thinks of a person.
Sabelas is scrappy, resourceful, and not afraid to get into a fight when the occasion calls for it.
Sabelas has been known to have a rather short-tempered, especially in regards to women and children, and mages in general, being wronged. She also has a strong hatred of slavers due to them killing her mother and taking her brother.
Sabelas can also be emotionally fragile, mostly when she feels trapped, backed into the corner, out of her depth or when she feels like her life is out of her control.
Even alongside all of her kindness, compassion, and empathy, Sabelas is still also a rogue at heart, and when someone she cares about is hurt, becomes far more relentless and ruthless. Sabelas can also react indigently and negatively towards people who disrespect her or those that she cares about.
Powers:
Magic: Sabelas was born with natural magical abilities.
- Sabelas doesn't make use of a staff. She can make simple gestures with her hands to cast and often uses a shortsword in a fight.
- Her magic seems to react as an extension of Sabelas, more so than other mages and magic.
Magic: Wizards master the arcane by specialising in individual schools of magic, combining ancient spells with modern research.
Nature Magic: Druids channel the elemental forces of nature and share a deep kinship with animals. Mastery of Wild Shape allows them to transform into beasts from all over the world.
- Wolf Conjuration: Sabelas can summon green furred wolves with her magic. Whether one, two, or an entire pack, she can use these for scouting or for aid in battle, however, the more wolves she summons and how long she summons them, the greater the mana cost.
- Shapeshifting: As a druid, Sabelas is capable of changing her form into that of an animal, she did this for the first time when she was a child, not long after getting her magic. She transformed into a wolf, which she found herself stuck as for two days before she exhausted herself and her magic and turned back to human. Her preferred form is that of a wolf, though her form makes for a larger wolf with green feathering to her ears.
- Speak With Animals: Sabelas is capable of talking to animals through the spell amicus animales.
- Elemental Manipulation: Sabelas is able to manipulate the elements around her from fire to lightning to water and earth. With enough concentration and magical energy she can complete great feats.
- Veilfire: Sabelas can also produce Veilfire.
- Weather Manipulation: Due to her connection to the elements, Sabelas is capable of controlling the weather such as rainstorms, winds, dark clouds, thunderstorms, etc.
Healing: Sabelas is capable of using her connection to the earth to heal herself and others. Though this isn't her most practised skill
Flyrogenesis: Sabelas has the magical ability to produce fade shields, harnessing her magic and using it to create barriers and fields, which she can make appear in any shape, and with any amount of intensity and force. Sabelas is able to create highly durable barriers of green energy that she can shape and manipulate as needed. She can use it to grab and break apart targets, protect others from enemy fire, contain a target or to cover and deflect attacks from enemies. Like any physical barriers, the barrier could be broken with extreme brute force. During her time with the Inquisition, Sabelas will learn to project her energy around herself, constructing a close-to-the-body psionic armour to protect herself from extreme impacts, such as falls from great heights or blows from superhumanly strong combatants, increasing her durability to a significant degree.
- Full Shield: Sabelas can erect a huge green veil shield that protects herself and others against physical and magical attacks.
- Personal Shield: Sabelas can use a smaller version of her shield to block attacks, this takes less energy but only covers her.
- Shield Blasts: Sabelas has the ability to project her shields to cause damage to her opponents.
- Shock Waves: Sabelas is capable of using her shields as shock waves hitting her opponent.
- Enhanced Strength: Sabelas can wrap her knuckles in shields, so when she punches it feels as if her enemies are being punched by a brick wall. This grants her an enhanced strength strong enough to knock grown men back.
- Telekinesis: Sabelas has the ability to move, levitate and otherwise manipulate objects using her magic. Sabelas uses this energy to affect and control molecules and particles, allowing her to fully control matter and energy. Sabelas started training this power by moving wooden blocks around on Halsin's instruction.
- Push: Sabelas can push away foes in battle, this is usually accompanied by a green flash.
Anchor (eventually): The Anchor refers to the strange glowing green mark that appears on Sabelas's left palm after she survives the explosion at the Divine Conclave. Sabelas mainly uses the Anchor to disrupt or to permanently seal tears in the Veil, from Fade rifts to the Breach itself.
- Use of the Anchor exhausts Sabelas of her magic, meaning it leaves her drained after she has closed a rift. And she will need to rely on her companions for a while after this.
Weaknesses:
Distraction: Preventing Sabelas from concentrating or giving full attention to her spells, renders them ineffective.
Emotion: One of the cardinal rules of magic is that disposition affects execution; this implies that performing spells correctly demands a certain frame of mind.
Overexertion: The excessive use of magic could lead to fatigue, unconsciousness, the depletion of one's reserves of power, the spread of the Crystal Curse, and if taken to the extreme, death.
Cuffs: There are specially made cuffs that drain a mage leaving them weak and vulnerable.
Templar Smite: As a mage, Sabelas is weak to the Templar Smite, where they drain the mana out of a mage leaving them powerless. This basically has the same effect as the cuffs. Though there are no Templars in Faerun so she hasn't come across this yet.
Red Lyrium: Red Lyrium, as with most people, is poisonous to those that come into contact with it, and even simply being in its presence.
Abilities:
Arcane Knowledge: As a mage, Sabelas has deep magical knowledge, though this will grow in the coming years. Her knowledge is mostly based in the druids and their practices currently.
Swordswoman: Sabelas is a capable swordswoman and wields a shortsword alongside her magic in battle.
Elven: Sabelas was taught elven by her mother as she grew up, and Halsin has continued her studies in it after her mother's death.
Honed senses: Due to her connection to nature, Sabelas is able to pick up danger before anyone else in her vicinity does. Her keen skills of perception offer aid in otherwise detrimental situations. She is likewise able to anticipate attack patterns.
Talented cook: Sabelas is said to be a talented cook.
Hunting/Tracking: Sabelas is very capable of being able to hunt and track animals for food, bedding, clothing, etc.
Belongings:
Armour: Sabelas wears a green and silver armour that was made and given to her by Halsin.
Feet: Sabelas wears simple foot wrappings, leaving her toes and heals bare as a way to remain connected to nature.
Necklace: Sabelas wears a necklace bearing a druidic pendant that once belonged to her mother.
Dagger (formerly): As a teen, Sabelas carried a dagger that is designed in traditional elven style. This is currently being carried by Halsin after Sabelas gifted him the blade in return for her armour, despite his protests.
Lyrium Belt: Sabelas wears a belt capable of holding Lyrium potions.
Pairing: Open (I will leave this open until the Inquisition goes to Val Royeaux (The Threat Remains mission)
Though part of me does like the idea of Cullen and Astarion. The ex-templar, the druid, and the vampire. Astarion would have two soft people in his life to help him work through the darker parts of his life. Cullen would have a kind-hearted mage and a sarcastic vampire
I already have an Astarion and Solas story underway, but I also feel like it works here too. Especially with the past link to Falura. That whilst he initially sees everything that he loved about Falura in Sabelas, he eventually moves through it to see Sabelas as her own person and eventually with Falura's blessing, he can start to move on with both Astarion and Sabelas. There will also be a huge thing with Falura in Veilguard from what I can gather without going too much into spoilers due to her link to Ghilan'nain.
Other Pairings:
– With the additional franchises, other pairings open up. I am open to changes and suggestions if you feel certain characters don't fit together.
Astarion and Dorian (obviously if Astarion is a pairing for Sabelas, then this won't occur). Alt pairings; Dorian and Cullen or Dorian and Gale (or Gale, Cullen and Dorian)
Iron Bull and Lae'zel
Shadowheart and Cassandra
Karlach and Sera
Wyll and Josephine
The ones below are set pairings, so they are not up for changing:
Solas and Falura (Past)
Alistair and Myanna Amell (Mage)
Fenris and Marian Hawke (Mage)
Carver Hawke and Merrill
Isabella and Garrett Hawke (Warrior)
Lore Notes:
Elves:
Elves exist in Faerun, obviously, and are treated the same as humans, for the most part (So there are no alienages in Faerun), though Drow are feared.
Ferelden and the related countries are the only ones that treat elves the way that they do.
There are Dalish clans, but unlike their Thedas counterparts, they are very present and social within Faerun, and many openly live within druid groves and are given space to live comfortably, they are even allowed to erect shrines to their own gods.
Note: Whilst elves have lost their immortality due to what the dread wolf did, elves in Faerun have extended lifespans. Solas will theorise that this is because they were never stunted by humans but accepted and embraced by them. But also that magic might be involved as it is seen more in wizards, sorcerers and warlock mages, and seen most in druid elves, with Halsin being the oldest currently at 200 years of age.
As age isn't really mentioned beyond characters such as Halsin, Jaheira and Astarian, adjusting this slightly can work. Maybe limit natural elf lifespans to not ruin the Dragon Age issues. As I don't plan on going into too much detail about BG1 and 2 or the events in it, then maybe limiting elf ages in Faerun to 250 (Halsin's age will have to be shifted (to around 200 instead of 350), but so far I have only heard him mention his age once), obviously Astarian is a vampire spawn and he stopped ageing when he was turned so his doesn't matter.
The elves only age in the last couple of decades of their lifespan, so they grow up from being children to that sort of ageless, in between appearance at about the same rate as humans, but then just keep that look until the last couple of decades.
Other Species:
Only the elves seem to be found across all the nations, but Faerun species such as gnomes, dragonborn, orcs, and tieflings are all mostly found in Faerun due to the way they are treated in the likes of Ferelden, Orlais, etc.
Githyanki are seen more often in Faerun, however, small contingencies have been seen in other places in recent years, as if scouting out events and world states, specifically after the Fifth Blight.
Tieflings, Dragonborn and Qunari are different species but are distantly related. They have too many similarities in design and stuff for me not to make a link between them, especially between the dragonborn and the Qunari given the story that Bull tells the Inquisitor about the mixing of dragons into their species line at some point.
Half-Elves:
In Dragon Age, half-elves always look human, whilst in Baldur's Gate, they appear to be elves, so for this, it will be random luck of the genetic draw. So Shadowheart retains her ears, and Alistair still looks human.
Fade, Astral Plane, and the Hells:
Each of these are different 'realms', however they are all connected to one another. The Astral Plane was originally created by Ghilan'nain to imprison Falura after faking her death, and later used by the Githyanki to imprison Orpheus. The Astral Plane is a 'neighbour' to the Fade, with them rubbing up against one another but never overlapping.
The Nine Hells are the infernal lower Planes of the Fade, home to Devils and divided into nine cosmological layers. Every layer is its own unique magical ecosystem, warped after the sheer presence of their rulers. The Nine Hells are locked into a never-ending Blood War with the Demons of the Abyss.
To those outside of the Fade, and specifically with Andrastianism, there is little difference between the devils and the demons.
Religion:
All religions are kept because each continent has its own religions, cultures, and beliefs. There are around 4,000 + real world religions, churches, denominations, religious bodies, faith groups, tribes, cultures, movements, or ultimate concerns, so less than 100 across what we know of DA and BG3 isn't that huge. Therefore, folk stories, histories, etc are all kept. However, I might change story locations if they fit with Thedas locations better or if those locations are references to BG1 or 2.
Mind Flayers/Illithid and the Githyanki:
As their origin isn't known in BG, then I am going to make them the creation of the Evanuris. Because of this, the Evanuris also created the Githyanki to be slaves for the Illithid who were slaves to the Evanuris.
Their rebellion began due to the subtle influence of Falura and her magic on their minds through the Mind Flayers, and eventually they broke free of their chains moving into the Astral Plane.
