Bio:
- Was born to Iryna and Hojo (It is unknown how Shinra got their hands on Iryna to begin with)
- Was injected with Jenova's cells whilst Iryna was pregnant. Cardea was also infected with chaos-tainted mako that granted her psionic abilities.
- Raised in a lab for five years where she was pushed by Hojo through vigorous tests and training.
- When she was five, Iryna managed to escape with Cardea and then made her way to Nibelheim where she integrated herself and her daughter into the village to hide from Hojo and Shinra. Changing Cardea's name to Cara to hide her.
- Cardea grew up rather isolated from other children due to her being considered 'strange', though she did become close with Cloud Strife and Tifa Lockhart, more so with Cloud as they were both loners.
- After the Nibelheim Incident, Iryna and Cardea were recaptured by Shinra and then separated.
- Cardea was experimented on, and injected with increasing levels of chaos-tainted mako, which changed and heightened the natural magic levels inside of her, granting her the use of 'chaos magic' and turning her into the Cetra's legend 'The Scarlet Witch'.
- Some time before the attack on Mako Reactor 1, Cardea was found by Tifa, wandering around Midgar Sector 7 slums, barefooted, bleeding and freezing. Cardea has no memory of how she escaped Shinra or how she got to Midgar, though has flashes of her mother's pained face. (In reality, Iryna had managed to gain the trust of a member of Hojo's scientific team, Oleg, and persuaded him to release her, after which they both mounted a rescue mission of Cardea. They found Cardea strapped to a medical table and in the middle of being experimented on. Freeing her, Iryna begged Oleg to take Cardea and flee, and she would hold off the Shinra forces descending upon them. Unfortunately, as Oleg fled with Cardea they were caught by Shinra. Cardea's magic then lashed out and teleported her away, leaving Oleg and Iryna to their fates)
- Tifa took Cardea to Seventh Heaven where she recovered and then eventually joined Avalanche alongside her childhood friend.
Personality:
A mysterious, mystical, quiet, and beguiling young woman, Cardea has an otherworldly aura and an enchanting charisma to her. She is compassionate, kind, intelligent and deeply curious. She can initially come across as quiet and withdrawn, especially as she is still recovering to what Shinra did to her.
To those closest to her and those that she utterly trusts, she is generous and kind and can be bold and outspoken, she is not afraid to say what she really thinks of a person.
Cardea is scrappy, resourceful, and not afraid to get into a fight when the occasion calls for it.
Cardea has been known to have a rather short-tempered, especially in regards to women and children being wronged, this likely comes from her own experiences.
Cardea can also be emotionally fragile, mostly when she feels trapped, backed into the corner, out of her depth or when she feel like her life is out of her control.
Even alongside all of her kindness, compassion, and empathy, Cardea is still also a rogue at heart, and when someone she cares about is hurt, becomes far more relentless and ruthless. Cardea can also react indigently and negatively towards people who disrespect her or those that she cares about.
Since a young age, Cardea has developed a tendency towards escapism. She would often engulf herself in the imaginary world of books as a way to shelter herself from the harsh reality she had to endure at the hands of Shinra.
Powers:
Psionics: Cardea has an array of psionic powers due to being infected with chaos-tainted Mako. These powers manifest as a luminescent mist or vapor of red hue emanating from her hands and body, resembling the natural Chaos Magic she was born with. When using her telepathic abilities, Cardea's irises glow a dark red color. Cardea's powers are reliant on movement and focus, which means her enemies or opponents can stop her from using her powers by disrupting her concentration or restricting her movement.
- Psychic Energy Manipulation: Cardea can project energy blasts, streams, waves and bolts of her own psionic and telekinetic energy, allowing her to strike, push, pull or blow away her targets, potentially exerting enough force to destroy them. This energy manifests in any shape or form, outlining her telekinetic spheres of influence, as the energy is visible in a reddish color. When her energy hits a target, she can use her telekinesis to inflict further damage. Significant emotional turmoil can both amplify Cardea's power and causes her to lose control over it.
Telekinesis: Cardea has the ability to move, levitate and otherwise manipulate objects using her psionic energy in a remote manner without the need for her energy to first be projected from her hands. Cardea uses this energy to affect and control molecules and particles, allowing her to fully control matter and energy. Cardea started training this power by moving wooden blocks around.
- Force-Field Generation: Cardea is able to create highly durable barriers of red energy that she can shape and manipulate as needed. She can use it to grab and break apart targets, protect others from enemy bending, contain a target or to cover and deflect attacks from enemies. Like any physical barriers, the barrier could be broken with extreme brute force.
Telepathy: Due to her ability to interact mentally with others, Cardea can read minds, communicate telepathically and experience the memories and thoughts of others. Cardea can also sense the minds and emotions of those around her.
- Pathokinesis: Cardea can sense the feelings of others and alter them according to her will. With it, Cardea can resolve a tense situation peacefully or, make people coexist more easily. It can also be used to enlighten someone's mood; it will be described as a subtle ability, and is very useful in resolving conflict.
Levitation: Cardea is able to use this power to move through the air and simulate flight, in order to hover and safely float back to the ground. The use of this power manifests as a blast of psionic energy expelled from her hands onto the ground to propel herself up in the air, with a second blast used to slow her momentum as she approaches ground allowing her to land safely. It operates more like an enhanced leap, thanks to the force of gravity pushing her down.
Magic: In addition to the psionic abilities, Cardea was born with natural magical abilities due to her being half Cetra, though her magic has been corrupted by the chaos-tainted mako and the Jenova cells.
- Chaos Magic: Able to harness Chaos Magic, Cardea is the realization of the Cetra legend the Scarlet Witch, a being capable of spontaneous creation. She can shape and manipulate this magic for different effects, such as forming tangible constructs of energy or cast spells without incantation. Her magic is primarily composed of the same red energy as her psionic powers, but mixed with darker red and black hues.
Through the use of Chaos magic, Cardea can perform a number of magical feats, including:
Reality Warping: Cardea can warp reality. Cardea's reality warping abilities began initially on a small scale, however, as time progresses, her powers will grow exponentially. Cardea can also create small zones where reality follows her wishes and rules. The areas are surrounded by a partially invisible force field and appear normal from the outside, she often uses this in a similar way that veils are used. When a person or object enters the area, it automatically becomes part of the reality.
Conjuration: With a wave of her finger, Cardea can conjure whatever comes to her mind, though there are certain limits on things that she can summon including distance and size.
Summon: Cardea can summon four beings to aid her in battle or even in everyday as companions. She has three at her disposal, but will often rely mostly on Charlie the hellhound, over Ribbon and Gargantos who take more magic to summon and are much larger, unsuited for the indoors.
Transmutation: Cardea is able to change the atomic structure of most inanimate objects, such as clothing, beds, chairs, musical instruments etc. Cardea also can transform herself from her civilian clothes to her Scarlet Witch uniform and back at will.
Energy Absorption: Cardea has displayed the ability to absorb energy from the environment and from other people. Cardea is capable of absorbing energy without killing her target.
Teleportation: Cardea is able to teleport herself over short distances, usually around battlefields, but she is capable of teleporting other people too, usually to get them out of harm's way. This was first seen when she was escaping from Shinra.
Elemental Magic: Elemental Magic is a form of powerful magic used to manipulate the four base aspects of the natural world: Fire, Water, Earth, and Air. The ability to conjure and control the elements. She can conjure fireballs, and can use tree branches and roots to capture people.
- Fire: The most dangerous of the four elements, fire is associated with pure energy in its most powerful state. It is primarily manipulated with the use of fire and heat spells and is the element most often used by sorcerers. Its opposing element is water. Fire and heat spells can be used to light candles, torches, and campfires; create walls or pillars of fire to either attack or defend; disarm opponents; trigger explosions; and conjure powerful infernos.
- Fire and Heat Resistance: Cardea has been able to withstand her skin being in contact with candle flames without sustaining any burns. When she uses her powers, she is completely resistant to the fire she creates, preventing her skin, and hair from burning due to contact with the flames.
- Water: Water is the element of purification, regeneration, and healing. Water is also associated with intuition and divination. This element is typically manipulated with the use of water spells, which can be used to summon storms and clouds of mist; conjure a jet of water; and even to write messages.
- Earth: The element of earth is associated with endurance and strength. Magic used to bind the earth is said to be delicate and easily undone. Its opposing element is air. This element is mainly manipulated with the use of earth spells, which can be used to summon roots and vines to trip or restrain opponents; conjure rockslides to block off paths; and trigger earthquakes.
- Air: The element of air is as powerful and unpredictable as the wind that it controls. It is primarily manipulated with the use of wind spells, which can be used in a variety of ways such as directing air currents, conjuring smoke, and strangling opponents.
Weaknesses:
Distraction: Preventing Cardea from concentrating or giving full attention to her psionics and her spells, may render them ineffective.
Restraint: Restraining Cardea's hands will mean that she cannot use her psionics.
Emotion: One of the cardinal rules of magic is that disposition affects execution; this implies that performing spells correctly demands a certain frame of mind.
Overexertion: The excessive use of magic could lead to fatigue, unconsciousness, the depletion of one's reserves of power, and if taken to the extreme, death.
Abilities:
Expert Combatant: Cardea was initially a poor fighter, having no combat skills or formal training. However, she has developed a fighting style in which she infuses her psionic energy into her hands to greatly enhance her hand-to-hand combat skills and allow her to parry attacks from bladed weapons without suffering any harm due to her psionic energy protecting her hands from damage.
