Anas Platyrhynchos
A mallard mother is very protective of her young. Shortly after her ducklings have hatch, she leaves them to a water source, keeping a watchful eye along the way. If a predator, such as a red fox, is lurking nearby, the mother bird will pretend be injured to distract the fox away from her brood. Mallards are in no shape or form endangered.
