Chapter 1 - Crashed Love
Every day, approximately 3,700 people are killed in car accidents. I used to trust that all vehicle accidents were in my head until Saturday, December 19, when everything changed. But before that, let us go back to when everyone worked together; everything was peaceful, and there were no problems until a new species emerged. Chimeras are animals that contain a mixture of cells and are formed by injecting human cells into animals. My mother and I are the only chimeras remaining. My father is just a human being, and a terrible one at that. I've never admired him, and the fact that he became even more violent after the incident didn't quite make matters any happier.
When I was born, the majority of people resided on filthy streets in the back of an alley. Because of our appearance at the time, my family had nowhere to go and had to live in the shadows for a few years. But we were able to easily get a filthy house out of town. We were required to wear caps and large garments whenever we went into town, which I didn't mind because they looked pleasant on occasion. Furthermore, because we don't have enough money to buy anything, we'd only go to town for food once a week. My father was the only one who worked for a living, while my mother stayed at home to help around the house and care for me because I was sick a lot when I was younger.
Years had gone since we had moved into the house, and everything appeared to be in order. Life seemed to be clear and quiet. The good in life, however, never lasts. It was a beautiful day, so Mom and Dad agreed we should all go shopping in town. They stated it was a reward because of how well I was doing, but I had no idea my father had other ideas. We were walking to a toy store and had to pass through a busy intersection, so we waited for the traffic lights to turn red. I smiled as I looked at my father, who returned my grin with a glare I'll never forget. As everything around me appeared to slow down, he walked over to my mother. I was perplexed and had no idea what was going on until I saw what my father was up to. He took a sharp instrument from his pocket and stabbed my mother in the side with it. I was frozen in panic, unable to move even though everything around me was slowing down. He then shoved her into the street, and I stood there watching her bleed out on the ground. When a car passed by, she smiled at me and mouthed something. She was gone in an instant, and all I could do was stand there crying. That was the day when everything in my life changed.
