The River's Heart (Part 1)

Well, I showed up earlier then he said. Somehow I still showed up last.

Greely growled, "Let's just get this over with."

We followed him passed the Jamaa borders, "I knew you two would be perfect for the job. You always seem to get things done without us knowing. You'll have to explain how someday."

I growled, "Why did we meet back here when we originally needed to be here in Apondale near Mount Shiver?"

He smirked in a devilish way. I still completely didn't forgive him yet. This whole thing I'm doing is just to prove to him I'm not useless like he acts like I am. He stood next to a pink stone. The top seemed to be broken with another blue stone layer underneath It sat in a crate on top of a poorly made raft. A large pack sat on it too. Greely looked over at it like it was either new or different somehow.

He looked over at the crystal, "As you can see, the stone we recovered from the sunken city is safe. But we need to export it deeper into the Riverlands, its place of origin."

I rolled my eyes, "Is that something your power can't do?"

Greely's eye twitched, "This is where I need you two... When I use my power the other Alphas know my location, so I can only use it for teleporting myself at the minimum. Now, may I continue?"

Jackie nudged me, "What is this? A story-line?" In return, I gave her an giggle.

He growled, "The OTHER Alphas wanted to keep it for study... but I believe it must be returned to where it belongs. That is why I brought it here... and why THEY aren't here to... uh..." Then he scuffed, "Assist us."

I tilted my head, "You said that all in a disgusted way."

Greely ignored that comment, "The stone's markings resemble those I have seen here, in this particular region. I know we're close."

Then he pointed to a phantom made thing. Two broken pipes were stuck in the ground and phantom web strung across it.

Greely continued, "We'll have to break through these Phantom webs to allow the raft to pass. Let's get started. Jackie has proven trustworthy in the past, and Dare, don't disappoint me."

Before we could say anything else, he teleported. Jackie and I split up taking turns breaking the webs and killing Phantoms so the raft could float down the river. We thought it was going well until we came to a literal gate in the way. How are we supposed to do this?

Greely reappeared, "The Phantoms have taken the vault as well. They are trying to ensnare us. Retrieve the valve while I guard the raft from a rear attack. Don't alert the Phantoms." He then crouched down into the tall grass.

Jackie and I walked off toward the valve sitting on the ground, "ALERT ALL THE PHANTOMS!"

As we got a little closer to the valve upgraded Phantoms watchers popped up from the ground. Green lights shone around them.

I snickered, "Oh no! A green light!" I then walked through.

The light went red and so did all the other ones. Old Phantom watchers popped up and started zapping the surrounding area. Jackie avoided them and made it to the valve. I only the other hand got zapped by three of them and fell back. Phantom attacks don't work on me anymore? I looked back to catch Greely staring. So this whole thing was about him getting his way. With the crystal, and to see what I can do.

My gaze broke away when Jackie hit me with the valve, "Get your face out of the dirt dummy."

She sprinted over to Greely, "Here it is!"

I followed behind. Jackie and I continued down the way. We came to a bunch of phantom pipes spilling waste into the water stopping the flow. A cork sat a little bit away. Jackie grabbed it and plugged it into the pipe. Dang, she's smart. She said something that I clearly didn't listen to. I walked off to find a circle of five chests. Making sure Jackie wasn't looking, I open one at a time. Nothing? Then all at once four of them switched to Phantom chests. Then they all opened and Phantoms popped out.

I ran around to chopper plants screaming, "JACKIEEEE!!!"

Jackie yelled, "I told you not to touch the chests!" She ran over and started pushing them into the plants.

Then she finally stuffed the cork in. The waste disappeared all at once and the raft continued going. We looked over at a new weapon they have. A peddling Phantom was knocking the raft back. Jackie was looking around for the way to stop it. I jumped on the machine spinning on outside making it brake. The Phantom's side popped and broke and the metal went up the bottom of the Phantom.

I turned to her, "Who's smart now?"

She smirked, "Me, 'cause I don't have a piece of metal in my paw."

I looked down to see a Phantom pipe piece sticking threw my paw, "HOLY CRAP!" Hopping backward, I bite down on the piece and pulled it out.

Jackie fell back laughing, "This is good!"

I watched her and she rolled onto... "Jackie watch out!"

She rolled into a hidden Phantom Trap. A spikey Phantom shot out of the ground barely missing Jackie. Phantom vines grew on both sides of her trapping her in. She let out an ear curdling scream. Like the decimals were going through the roof. The Phantom that surrounded her shook and disappeared out of existence. So did the traps around her. There were a bunch around me that almost got me.

Jackie paused and looked at me, "Hey look, who's still smart now."

I growled, "Shutup." The continued on my way.
